we begin with breaking news, someone hit and killed a man riding his bicycle, then drove off. we'll tell you what car police say they spent these early morning hours looking for. >> for the first time in more than a decade, florida is hit by a hurricane, hermine has made landfall along the gulf coast. right now bringing drenching rains, flooding rains, high winds. and this is a live look at storm scan3 #, we're on the storm watch this holiday weekend. katie is tracking hermine and what it could mean for the shore. today is friday, september 2nd, good morning, i'm brooke thomas. >> i'm joe holden in for jim donovan. getting your day started on a check with weather and traffic with meisha. >> good morning, you guys, happy friday. tgif. we do have an accident

investigation in burlington, new jersey right now, all of the de takes on -- details on that, such busy world in traffic lately, that i am hoping this friday it is quiet. >> no problems when it comes to the weather. still quiet out there, will stay that way all day today. there is obviously storm system watching still category one hurricane no less. as we look at storm scan right now, bit more of region wide zoom, what you will fine here is generally just clear sky over our area. but clearly, some bands, the outer most bands, of what again is still category one hurricane hermine right now, starting to roll its way up the shore line. so, we do have a tropical storm watch now, posted, even though it is away from any kind of direct impact here, but that spans anywhere from portions of the north carolina coast, all the way up the jersey shore line. so, let's zero in on our area very quickly here, again, tropical storm watch is what you are looking at here. and that affect, again, showed you it extends down to north

carolina, more than 2 million people. this is definitely very broad impact of a system. let's get you the latest track on what's hurricane hermine, right now relatively weak category one, however, this is expected to even continue to weaken with time. i don't want you to go by categorization, however, folks. we will be seeing impact out of this regardless, notice what happens on this cone, however, by the time you hit sunday, it broadens so vastly. so still some uncertainty as to where this is expected to track, but regardless, we're going to see some impact out of it, far more detail as the morning progresses, where we stand, actually real nice day. 66 degrees, currently at the airport, you're in the even 50's some of the most outlying suburbs, so little on the cool side, refreshing outside, tad breezy, but generally just sunny, pleasantly warm, with highs at best in the low 80s, we will take it, although there is trade off obviously down the road. >> yep, katie, you will be

busy. thank you so much. all right, looking outside, you guys, the vine closed overnight construction between the schuylkill and broad. see what we're looking at here, westbound completely closed still eastbound usually follows after the westbound side opens, what we're looking at here very, very quiet. don't go to the vine if you don't have to. friday's tend to be lighter in the world of travel. construction, nine at northbound between allegheny and betsy ross bridge, two left lanes blocked, construction crews out, there hopefully gets cleared out of the way by 5:00. also, burlington bristol bridge scheduled to open right about now. it is hard to see what exactly is going on out there, because it is so dark out, there make note, it should be opening right now if it hasn't gun to do so already. also, that accident investigation, the accident happened around 12:30 a.m. burlington, new jersey, route 130 at high street. all lanes now have just been reopened. great news. that happened just over the past minute or two. all right, another accident out there, bridgeport, route 202 at dekalb pike, make note. busy already for only being

4:30, especially on a friday, joe, over to you. >> meisha, thank you. we are following breaking news, philadelphia police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in the city's mayfair neighborhood. >> police tell us 43 year old man was hit while riding his mountain bike. it happened around 12:45, in the 5800 block of frankford avenue. investigators say when paramedics arrived on the scene, they found a man severely hurt. >> this was a very violent crash, the bicycle that the victim was riding was broken in half. the victim's body was launched about 60 feet. >> the victim died at the scene. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch will have live update on this story in about 30 minute. >> new this morning, police are also investigating a homicide, in the city kingsessing section. investigators tell us a man was standing in front of a day care center when he was shot. this happened after 11:00 in

the 1800 block of 58 street. the victim died at the hospital. police are using surveillance cameras from surrounding businesses to help in this investigation. hurricane hermine is bearing down on the florida panhandle after making landfall just hours ago, we want to show you live picture, you can see the winds whipping in tampa right now, hard rain also hitting the area, hermine is the first hurricane to hit florida in over a decade. now, overnight, the eye of the storm hit about 15 miles east of panama city with 80-mile per hour sustained winds. even before it roared ashore, the category one storm pummeled part of the state's panhandle with heavy rain and forceful winds. hermine is expected to bring as much as 20 inches of rain and 12-foot storm surge. >> our coastal towns are suffering from a significant storm surge at this time. we have a lot of power outage,

a lot of trees down, blocking roads, and a lot of people without power. >> as you would imagine, widespread flood something also a major concern. hermine is expected to drop back down to a tropical storm before pushing into georgia, the carolina's, and up the east coast. >> if you are headed to the shore for labor day weekend, prepare for heavy rain and wind. people in ocean city spent the day on the beach and boardwalk under gray skies yesterday. lifeguards have been dealing with rough surf and rip currents, but cape may and atlantic county advising people not cancel plans just yet. >> at this point in time with the storm so far, not discouraging anybody, just prepare for weather should it happen. >> officials say tidal flooding is a big concern, with storm like hermine. and we expect to get more information from organizers of the made in america festival about how they plan to deal with the weather this weekend. crews are busy with the finishing touches getting everything ready for the crowd. rain and wind of course could

put damper on the weekends events here in philadelphia. of course, stay with "eyewitness news", as we continue to track hurricane hermine. we'll have update here on tv and of course always on our website cbsphilly.com. a four year old girl hit by car in juniata has been upgraded to stable condition. chopper three, over the 4200 block of l street last night. police say the young girl ran between two parked cars, and then out into the street. the driver did stop and at this time has not been charged. >> the new jersey man who killed a tsa officer and wounded three other in a rampage at lax is pleading guilty. paul cianti has cut a deal with officers yesterday in exchange for his guilty plea authorities will not seek the death penalty. he's charged with murdering officer her adder owe hernandez in november 2013, shot before being arrested. cianti faces life behind bars. in campaign 2016, donald

at cape canaveral. it happened during a test firing, i mean, take a look at. that will air force says the area around the launch pad will remain off limits today. the rocket was caring a satellite facebook hoped would expand internet access in africa. space xceo says the blast happened near upper stage oxygen tank, but the cause is still unknown. >> penn state will commemorate the 50th anniversary of joe paterno's first game as coach when the nittany lions host temple university in a couple of weeks. paterno died in 2012, few month after being fired, alleged knowledge of child sexual abuse scandal, involving former assistant coach, jerry sandusky. paterno was never charged with a crime, but his statue was taken down as a result of the sandusky scandal. paterno led the nittany lions for 46 years, football fans in philadelphia have mixed opinions about this

though. i mean, look! like playing marco polo and everything, so cute. >> again, from the comfort and safety of your own bedroom from high atop, a lot more adorable to watch. exactly. guys, lots to discuss here. let's get right to it. storm scan seeing the leading edge of the rain lifting north, for the most part though we're really looking ahead to nice beginning to the long holiday weaken here, but this is on the horizon, i want to give you the best sense of how things are playing out right now. remember, this is evolving situation. i highly suggest that you continue to check back with us, this is the latest that we know for sure. there is definitely going to be an impact at the shore, and that looks like it is where you will see the biggest impact, but if you have got maybe picnic plans further inland this weekend, say, out toward some of the farm country, near some of our west most suburbs, this may not have as much of an impact on you but again still a question mark. zoom around, take another wide zoom on the east coast in

general, very well defined system, but again, it is starting to lose little steam here, now that it moved on shore, definitely very heavy rain, and flooding concerns continue for the southeastern us, as they will very likely for our coastal communities down the road. so, as we continue to track, hurricane hermine, not just dealing with the rainfall, but obviously the winds that comes with that, as well. now, the wind field itself in terms of where the strongest of the winds will reside, moves out to sea here, very likely, by the time it at least is hugging our coast at its closest point, as it bypasses our area. however, we are very likely still seeing at least potential for tropical storm force wind out there, so you are talking in excess of 35 miles per hour, but notice the further inland you go, the later becomes. so, again, there is still a window that you may end up with certainly some nicer conditions as you head further inland. talking rain and the. so we new that florida was going to get slammed. but looks like the carolinas shall specially earn edges of

the state, not to mention our shore lines, get hit with decent rain, as well, and current indications through labor day as the storm starts to actually starts to stall well off shore, are that we end up with several inches on the order of two and a half plus worth of rainout of this. so, very quickly, we want to walk you through the impact, short list of bullet minutes, wind gusts 06 miles per hour at the coast, dealing with coastal flooding, beach errosion, not the best beach weekends unfortunately, things really have gone downhill in that regard. but, temperatures have also been the same, top off 70s, majority of the holiday weekend. >> a lot going on, katie, thank you so much. good morning, everyone, happy friday. burlington bristol bridge is back down now, also the construction on 95 northbound between allegheny and betsy ross bridge, two lanes block, now clear as well. and the vine, westbound side, now open, eastbound side should be opening soon. accident cleared here in bridgeport, great news for those every in you that area route 202, like i say, all

starting to pretty significantly downhill as the weekend progresses here. now, the very latest, just into us, as of 5:00 a.m. this morning, even though few minutes shy of, that the latest advisory now from the national hurricane center that hermine is now tropical storm. so it has been downgraded, now, that it has moved on shore. here locally, still just got high pressure on our side. here is a look at the storm system, now tropical storm, and it is still expected to ride up the coastline, and have, you know, at least little flirtation with our coastline by the time we hit specifically sunday, but as early as saturday day, we may begin to see some rain bands picking up specially through south most communities. currently we stand at 52 degrees in mount pocono, 66 in philly with north wind at 12 miles per hour, it is a tad breezy granted but feels really nice outside. again, looking beautiful. it goes downhill so quickly. saturday, sunday, monday in the sit. does appear as though sunday is the day of biggest impact, biggest impacts you'll find

good morning, guys. tgif. i can tell you right now roads are being look really good. a lot of construction out there. yikes, katie, you're bus. >> i yes, we have stuff to talk about for sure. hermine still expected to have indirect impact on our area, closer to the coast, the bigger the impact will be. let's wack you through it, show you the latest that you know. keep in mind, too, guys, ever changing and evolving situation that we're facing here. so the very latest now that hermine has actually since been downgraded to tropical storm. it did make landfall as a hurricane, for the first time in many years, it still has very well defined organization, but it is starting to lose some of its u m.p.h. when it comes to wind speed, regardless, this rain is heavy, it is flooding, and it is going to continue to my great its way up the coastline, toward us. so, we're sort of beading our time at this point. now, this is not the kind of a situation that we dealt with when we had, for example, a hurricane sandy. however, it still will have pretty significant impact at the shore line where we end up with
