beautiful sunset at the jersey shore. it is the calm before the storm. tonight residents business owners and tourists are preparing for the worst as tropical storm hermine moves up the coast. ing ors of the made in america music festival say the show will go on despite the chance of rain in philadelphia, but other local concerts have already been cancelled. take a look at stormscan 3. tropical storm storm is lashing the carolinas. it could regain some strength. a tropical storm warnings has been issued for new jersey and delaware beach, i'm jessica dean. >> i'm ukee washington. the timing of hermine couldn't be worse, as thousands flock to the shore for the labor day weekend. we have live team coverage for you. david spunt is in brigantine where preparations are underway. lauren casey has the latest track of the storm >> we have the tropical storm

watch in effect has been upgraded to a warning and extended until 6:00 on monday for all of coastal new jersey and delaware counties. positioned along the carolina coast line as it continues to move to the northeast. battling eastern north carolina and strong winds, tropical storm hermine is a tropical storm at 50 miles per hour strength off to the northeast about 22 miles per hour, but momentum is going hermine will reemerge over the gulf stream to those warmer waters will strengthening is likely. you notice the slowing of the track of hermine. it will stall offshore of the jersey coastal line. these some symbols can be a little bit deside effects. it will restrengthen. as far as effects are concerned, check this out, 70 miles per hour wind speeds. it likely will fit offshore of our area with the strength of a

category 1 hurricane. impacts as we head late day saturday, sunday into monday swell, wind gusts possibly to 50 and 60 miles per hour. there is a possibility of moderate widespread flooding and major coastal flooding along our coast because of that surge. very rough surf and dangerous rip current, we'll talk more about what to expect from hermine along the coast, and in philadelphia, and surrounding counties and your full forecast coming up in just a couple of minutes. . lauren, many people made their way down the shore this labor day weekend despite the weather. as vacationers and businesses had hoped to end the summer on a high note. now are preparing for the worst. say lor's tonight, red sky in morning, sailor's take morning. friday night sunset in a red haze. >> our main concern right now, obviously is the flooding. >> brigantine police chief jim bennett runs the emergency management team on the island. he tells "eyewitness news" his team is ready. >> i've lived here my whole life except for a stint in the military. it's the price you pay for living on a barrier island. they're aptly named. these islands are here to protect the mainland from storms. >> reporter: he's waiting until saturday before he knows what will become of hermine. >> we may have to leave saturday, tomorrow afternoon. >> reporter: victoria came with her husband and three kids from philadelphia. they aren't taking any chances were their get away home youring we brought in the outdoor furniture, we want to baton down the hatch, make sure the cars are parked in a safe place. we're hoping it makes a turn and we don't have to deal with it. >> reporter: dozens walked down the boardwalk and things

continued as normal but the storm talk did make people think. >> my daughter and my son-in-law decided to bring us for the weekend and i said of all weekends, uh-uh, i'm ready to go home. >> and brigantine isn't alone, "eyewitness news" stopped by sea aisle earlier in the day where people were making plans to move their boats ahead of the weather. >> get the boat out. go over and help put furniture away off the porch and get the heck out of here. >> reporter: governor chris christie and other state officials are watching from trenton. i'm told tonight at this point, governor chris christie has not declared a state of emergency here in new jersey. reporting in brigantine, david spunt. the storm threat forced officials in atlantic city to cancel this weekend's beach concerts. florida georgia line was supposed to play tomorrow and blink 182 was on tap for monday. mayor said given the forecast the city was left with no choice

but to cancel the shows. philadelphia made in america music festival is still set to go on and tonight rehearsals are underway on the ben franklin parkway. chopper 3 over the stage. rihanna is tomorrow night's headliner and cold play is sunday final act. thousands are expected to descend on the parkway for the event but as crews made preparations, some concession airs can expressed worry. crews were prepping the festival ground by tying down tents. >> this putting down heavy bricks and securing a little extra. >> officials say if you are coming to made in america, come prepared for rain and umbrellas will be allowed. hermine became the first hurricane to strike florida in more than a decade. heavy wind brought down trees, some crashed into homes and thousands left in the dark. the storm is blamed for at least one death in florida. authorities say a homeless man in gainsville died when a tree

fell on him. hermine weakened to a tropical storm as it spun through georgia and the carolinas. it's disrupted the travel plans of some 15.6 million people. sure to stay with "eyewitness news" as we continue to track hermine. we'll bring you the latest both here on tv and also at cbsphilly.com. a fatality accident in newark delaware cause as big try-up a pedestrian was hit by a car and killed. this happened just before 8:00 on interstate 95 south. no word on that victim's identify. we do know traffic is still jammed on 95 south as police investigate. many people in pennsylvania and new jersey will be paying higher taxes now that governor chris christie has ended a decade's long tax agreement between the states. it allowed residents working in either state to pay income taxes a the their home state's rate. christie ended the deal today but he said he would reconsider if the jersey legislature cuts

public worker health benefits. pennsylvania governor tom wolf said it publishes workers. campaign 16. the gop presidential nominee met with about a tends african-american leaders at the view on north broad street in philadelphia. trump will visit a black church tomorrow in detroit. >> we want to make something on november 8. back here in philadelphia, many protesters hit the streets to voice their displeasure with the trump visit. some said they were frustrated by his comments on immigration, some of the protesters were from black lives matter. >> any leader so-called leader going to meet with donald trump today and listen to that bigot or be in the same room does not speak for us. >> police did break up a brief scuffle between a trump protester an supporter but most of the protests were peaceful. the fbi has released a

report detailing hillary clinton's interview with investigators over her private e-mail server. the document show that when questioned, clinton answered, quote, i don't recall on 39 separate occasions. we also learned today that she used 13 different mobile devices that had access to the server. clinton told investigators she relied on the judgments of her staff and others not to illegally send e-mails capabilitying classified information to her private server. she also told fbi investigators she was unclear about the classification markings on official government documents. we are now just about 66 days away from election day. stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of campaign 16. a frightening scene in northeast philadelphia. a car crashed through a fence over a pool and right into the support post of a backyard deck. this happened around 3:00 p.m. in the 10,000 block. authorities say no one was hurt. they're still looking into just how that happened.

authorities are looking for two suspects who pulled off an elaborate heist. they captured a white work van on monday. investigators say one suspect cut a lock. unloaded boxes of brand new sneakers into the waiting van. a second suspect punched the truck driver in the face when he tried to stop them. if you recognize the suspects or the van contact police. philadelphia police are questioning a person of interest in the hit-and-run death of a cyclist of mayfair early this morning. police say the victim was riding a mountain bike when i was struck and killed. he led police to damaged buick century blocks away from the crash. a former stanford university swimmer convicted of sexual assaulting an unconscious woman

antibacterial soap may not be as safe as you think, the fda will ban more than a dozen chemicals long used in antibacterial soaps because they haven't been proven safe or effective for daily use. the ban mainly targets two common ingredients used in the soaps. researchers found those chemicals could spark dump truck resistant bacteria and hormone imbalance. a warning tonight for owners of the new samsung galaxy note

of healing two very sick people. lauren casey joins us and lauren you spend the last couple days monitoring hermine and you continue to do so as we head to the weekend >> our today is a coming into close agreement which typically we like but the models projecting this will be a major event for our coastal areas as we head into the weekend. particularly sunday and into labor day as well, but all is quiet kind of the calm before the storm. yes, quiet conditions as we get a live look at center city philadelphia. just a few passing high clouds and nice comfortable temperatures, 72 degrees, air feeling good after humidity levels dropped off last night. it was beautiful day with that drier air in place, temperatures cooling officially 71 right now in wilmington. down to 64 in millville, 60 in mount pocono. overnight. no problem, good sleeping weather, partly cloudy and quiet. low temperature at 66. not looking bad to kick off the

made in america festival tomorrow maybe a passing shower, 79 degrees breezy conditions. sunday we'll have to watch out for gustings, rainfall possible but i think conditions are most going to deteriorate as we head into sunday in philadelphia and surrounding suburbs due to hermine. stormscan 3 showing us dense high level cloud cover streaming in especially age soft city and that is due to hermine right now moving its way up the eastern sea board. across north carolina, tropical threats as far as our coast, late day saturday, sunday and continuing into monday. looking high in a lot of these categories unfortunately coastal flooding high threats, strong winds act moderate threat for heavy rainfall, beach erosion looking high and the possibility of dangerous rip current throughout the duration of this event. which will be prolonged. as we take a look at the weekend into labor day, the likelihood of tropical storm force winds across the delaware avenue is high. we could see tropical storm

force wind gusts into center city philadelphia and the strongest will come sunday and through the day on monday. when we talk about tropical storm force, we're talking about 40 miles an hour or greater. you can see those winds gusting down the shore. even by midday tomorrow to tropical storm force as we head to tomorrow evening again dealing with the wind gusts along the coast. things get elevated as we look toward the i95 corridor late sunday, early monday morning, wind gusts possible. two tropical storm force in philadelphia and across south jersey. wind gusts possible to 60 miles per hour along the coast. parts of delaware and southern interior new jersey as hermine's center will make its closest path throughout the event. elevated wind speeds with the on shore flow will continue to create the coastal flooding threat until we head into midday tuesday were things start to relax. what to expect. dangerous road conditions due to coastal flooding, storm surge

along from debris, power outages looking likely. possibly damage to roofs and siding of homes and damage to docks and boardwalks looking moderate. future rainfall, we will have a sharp cut-off. i don't think that's going to be the main threat with this system but as we head into especially sunday evening we'll start to see the rain tally really climbing up there especially along the immediate coast line. we could see three, four inches of rainfall, maybe five inches locally. heavy rainfall we could see localized flooding more concern for the coastal folding as we head sunday no monday due to the strong on shore wind flow. it's going to be a tough go along the coastal line and delaware beach ass we contend with hermine. things do start to quiet down as we head late monday night and into tuesday before sunshine returns across the area. yeah, it's going to be a tough couple of days along the coast
