jersey shore to celebrate the weekend. our team coverage continues with "eyewitness news" reporter trang do live in wildwood tonight. trang? >> reporter: natasha, the water was off limits but the action was on the boardwalk. the red cross was out making sure people were prepared in case the weather took a turn >> the threat kept many vacationers from the jersey shore. >> we were a little concerned about coming down with the storm. we thought we'd give it a try considering it was the last weekend. it's been absolutely beautiful. >> reporter: those who took a chance and stay wanted rewarded. ? gorgeous. not too hot. no bugs. can't beat it >> little by little, the boardwalk came alive and next you know, it felt like a regular day at the beach and we forgot everything. >> reporter: the sun shining, the water still strictly off

limits. patrolling officers made sure people stayed away from the surf conditions in a place like wildwood there are plenty of other ways to have fun. >> no lines for the rides. >> we're hoping the storms doesn't impact but we are in the middle of hurricane season. >> reporter: red cross said even if hermine doesn't pack a punch. we're not quite out yet. >> now is the time to take the simple steps of taking the stems to be informed. >> reporter:. some people actually took advantage of all the people leaving with the threat of hermine. one man came up and told me he got a presidential suite this weekend just $70 a night. for now we're live in wildwood.

i'm trang do, cbs3 "eyewitness news" >> thank you very much. we appreciate that. heading a little bit further up the coast in ocean city, live team coverage continues with anita oh standing by. >> reporter: natasha, it's been a pretty mild dale here in ocean city. one business owner tells me her shop took a 50% hit in sales because of this weather threat but officials say they're watching for the threat of coastal flooding but at this point, no reported injuries or major power outages. as the daylight turned to darkness, the tide and these rides and cast away cove did too >> people told us we shouldn't come. we said we wanted to? the ocean city was a tradition. >> you want to do ride the

kohler coast. >> reporter: after the officials closed because of hermine. >> the next thing you know it would be over their heads. don't want to get them knocked out. >> reporter: the threat almost cancel add youth golf tournament in galloway. these girls made their way to new jersey for the first time to compete. >> the wind were horrible. it was like changing the direction. your hat was fall off. >> reporter: gustings are not the only threat >> we still have dangerous rip currents. really please do not go into the water. we also have a threat of storm surge especially through those high tide cycles. >> reporter: some vacationers decided not to take chances >> we're going home early to avoid possible flooding. >> reporter: you're taking a live look here at the back base in ocean city. as you can see, no flooding, just yet but officials are watching that very closely because the threat does still

surf >> it's not worth getting caught in the surf. it's too powerful and it's going to do what it wants to do. it doesn't care about you being a human being. >> officials say it may look ok but it's just too safe. passengers on board a cruise ship a dealing with effects of hermine. this was tweeted this afternoon by a passenger on royal caribbean. you can see the rough waves. it was taken from a balcony from the back of the shim. it's on its way to bermuda after leaving new jersey yesterday. you might recall the anthem was battered back in february when it sailed through a storm off the coast of north carolina. children meantime in wildwood crest were disappointed after an ice cream truck caught fire. it was parked at palm and

atlantic avenues. no one was injured in this fire and there is no word on exactly what sparked that massive put blaze of that truck. closer to home, the weather could not have been better for folks celebrating the long holiday weekends. atlantic city police officer shot in the line of duty yesterday morning remains in critical condition tonight. investigators say the officer and his partner were fired upon after they disrupt add robbery in progress near caesar's parking garage. second officer returned fire killing one suspect identified as 25-year-old jerome day monday of camden. two others, 28-year-old demetrius cross of bridgeton and chisholm of millville were arrested. they face multiple charges. authorities in minnesota have discovered the remains of a boy whose kidnapping nearly 27 years ago made national headlines. jacob wetterling was 11 when he disappeared in saint joseph's minnesota back in october of 1989. on saturday, authorities

announced his remains had been found. no suspects were ever arrested or charged in this case. but last spring, police identified 53-year-old danny heinrick as a person of interest. he was charged with several counts of child pornography. a catholic church icon has become a saint. mother teresa before thousands of people. the nun devoted her life to helping the poor, and sick, she received a know bell peace price in 1979. the pope offered nearly 1500 homeless people a pizza lunch to celebrate. turning to campaign 2016. both donald trump and hillary clinton were off the campaign

donald trump's transition team should he be elected president. lauren casey, you have been, as i said, tirelessly tracking hermine over these last days. >> hermine is wearing me out >> i guess the threat of flooding down the shore >> still the threat of flooding but we dodged a bill bullet. as i mentioned thursday and friday even into yesterday, models were indicating we could take more of a direct hit from this system. thankfully models shifted every so slightly east but that mean as big significant improvement in the outlook. but we still do have the tropical storm warning that effect for the jersey coastline and it has been cancelled for cumberland and new castle and kent counties but replaced with coastal flood warnings running through sunday. a little hard to see on satellite imagery. those rain bands not too far

offshore. abides just how little of a shift to west ward we could have been impacted more insufficiently by this system, still very powerful. wind at 70 miles per hour, a post tropical system that is near hurricane strength movements off to the north, northeast it has turned more on the north but movement at three miles per hour incredibly flow so atypical. it will have the slow motion as we head into the next tie days. more to the north northwest, eventually weakening. eventually working itself off in new fine land and not a problem for us any longer but yes we have the rough surf if you were down the shore, saw images of the shore you can see big crashing waves at about ten to 11 feet. ocean dangerous conditions, you do not want to go into the ocean, stay on the sand. conditions, nice and quiet,
