the favorite feature that is now history. we begin with a little boy's frightening experience on the first day of school. i'm ukee washington >> i'm jessica dean. that kindergartener was supposed to be dropped off at the monocacy elementary center in berks county. but he was apparently forgotten in the back of the bus. "eyewitness news" reporter trang do spoke to his mom and is live with this story. trang. >> reporter: little prince oquendo was excited for his first day of kindergarten here at monocacy elementary. but much to his mother's horror, he never made off the school bus. >> give mommy a big hug >> she's holding him a little tighter after a scary mishap on what was supposed to be his first day of kindergarten >> he was so excited. i have pictures of him. he was ready to go. >> reporter: 5-year-old ended up spending four and a half hours alone on a school bus in 85 degree temperatures tuesday after his bus driver neglected to drop him off at monocacy

elementary center >> i cried myself to sleep. >> how many times? >> two times. >> reporter: no one knew prince was still on the bus until oquendo called the school when he wasn't dropped off the noon. new roads transportation staff checked the bus, which was still sitting in the company lot >> it was traumatizing to me. he was hot, sweaty. >> reporter: daniel boone area school district james harris says the transportation company contracted by the district immediately terminated the bus driver. >> generally the drivers check for backpacks, water bottles. driver didn't do that. >> reporter: the district dropped the ball as well by not calling him as soon as her son was marked as absent. >> it goes to show how important our procedures are and transportations every day in the safety of our kids. don't need to do anything new, just what we're supposed to be doing. >> reporter: little prince will not be riding the bus any time soon. >> i'll be driving him back and forth to school. i do not want him on any busses

at all. >> reporter: and the school district is holding an informational session for parents tomorrow at 6:30 here at monocacy elementary to ease fears they may have. we're live from amity township berks county, trang do, cbs3 "eyewitness news." campaign 2016, hillary clinton and donald trump participated in the first joints candidate events of the general election. they appeared back to back at the commander in chief forum in new york city. the audience was made you up of mostly veterans and active service members. democrat hillary clinton was the first to field questions at a televised commander in cheer forum. one veteran asked about her e-mail scandal >> i communicated about classified material on a wholly separate system. i took it very seriously. >> reporter: the former secretary of state said rock steadyness is the most important characteristic in a commander in

chief >> i view force as a last resort, not a first choice. >> reporter: donald trump says his experience in business deals will help him lead. >> i have good judgment. i know what's going on. i've called so many of the shots. >> reporter: trump was asked about accepting praise from russian president vladimir putin >> the fact that he calls me brilliant will have 0 impact. >> i could see myself working that out. >> reporter: both nominees vowed to defeat isis sent said more attention is needed for mental healthcare for veterans. earlier today, trump was in philadelphia at the union league and he laid out his plan for national security and military spending. >> we will build an active army of around 540,000. we will bailed navy of 350 surface ships and submarines as recommended by the bipartisan national defense panel.

on "eyewitness news" for complete coverage of campaign 16. former attorney general kathleen kane needs money, she's asking a judge to order her estrangeded husband to pay her $1 million out of about 6 million she says she she says she should receive from the divorce, she is now unemployed and needs to pay her attorneys, she's awaiting sentencing on october 24th and preparing to appeal her perjury conviction. she resigned in august. police in bucks county are searching for a missing 21-year-old woman. lisa marie piccone's car was found at tiler state park. her parents reported her missing yesterday. police are searching on foot, by boat and with the use of k9s. if you have information where she might be, you'red to reach out to authorities a 31-year-old woman is in stable condition after being shot multiple times on north 52nd street. police say she was shots twice in the chest and once in the left wrist. before opening fire.

police say the suspect stole that victim's purse. he ran from the scene. police are reviewing surveillance video. the search intensifies for the killer of 8-year-old gabrielle carter in camden. carter was caught in the cross fire of a gun fight on the 900 block of 8th street august 24. today we learned the u.s. impartial service, the fbi and philadelphia police are assisting camden county police in the investigation. authorities believe the killer is still in the area. a reward for information in this case has now climbed to $76,000. new government report released today shows pennsylvania backlogged with more than 3,000 untested rape kits. because of its size, philadelphia has the most by far. 1200 rape kits that are more than a-year-old have not been tested. today in harrisburg, pennsylvania's auditor general called for state law makers to allocate more funding to clear the backlog. >> among our recommendations is that state holders convene

immediately to discuss what resources they need particularly from the state to be able to effectively communicate how local law enforcement agencies are able to handle rip kits and to pay for all of these kits to be tested. >> experts say the rape kits are untapped evidence that could lead to arrests in some of the most disturbing and violent cases in the system. last year, the cherry hill police department announced it will begin utilizing body cameras. the department held a town meeting to demonstrate the new technology to officers as well as the community. the body cameras allow officers to record interactions with the public and also gather video evidence at crime scenes. the department says it is tested every body camera maker out there. taking into account everying from video quality to how the equipment stayed in place >> we didn't want to rush and jump into the technology without making an extremely informed and well educated decision. this is not something we move forward to lightly. something that is well thought-out and something that

stepping in to help displaced i t t tech students. community college of philadelphia is hosting a fast track to inappropriate day for itt students next tuesday. students will be able to meet with school officials to learn how they can enroll for the upcoming fall term. more than 35,000 students were displaced when itt tech suddenly announced yesterday it would be closing all of its locations nationwide. residents of pen dale bucks county will get to keep the local police department. the bureau council voted to abandon a measure to out sourcing. officials initially argued cutting the ten member police force would lead to seven figure savings over ten years. they ultimately decided to discontinue those talks. a female world war ii pilot got her wish to be laid to rest at arlington national cemetery. elaine harmon was one of the women's air force service pilots known as wasps.

she was one of about 1,000 women who flew planes in world war ii. and today, her daughter was handed the burial flag, as her mother was given military honors. the wasps had not been eligible but the army reverse that day last year. they worked with congress to change the law >> this something my mother worked hard to earn. it's not an easy thing to have to ask congress to pass a law to bury your grandmother. >> 92-year-old florence is one of the less than 100 wasps still alive. she joined harmon's family in the fight to get that final wish fulfilled. last week marked 31 years since divers discovered the ship of dreams, the titanic at the bottom of the atlantic ocean >> tonight a local historian is developing a virtual reality game to take you inside every part of the ship. hit the bottom of the atlantic in the early hours of april 15th, 1912, 1500 people died. 104 years later, a bucks county historian spent more than a year putting together this hd video game about the fame ship >> every room, corridor, cabin, linen closet. you can go, explore them and they're fully authentic. >> reporter: tom linsky is one of the, where the player is framed for murder and robbery and has to track down the real killer on the ship. >> it gives the player a reason to talk to all these different people. gives them a reason to explore all the far parts of the ship. >> reporter: linsky said the game will be educational and entertaining. he and several partners have already raised $80,000 for the project and they're actively talking with investigators. they're shooting for a 10 million dollar goal. some of the game consultant worked with film director james cameron on the 1997 oscar

>> i think i'm going to go to have to buy that. >> the weather a little hot after a cool breezy weekend, kind of felt like fall was in the air, not anymore. that has been whisked away and we replace that to a summer-like heat wave. it's going to feel more like july than september over the next few days, it is certainly did today and it will tomorrow, friday and saturday, also now, we're not strangers to september heat waves. we've had temperatures in the 90's in september before. definitely not feeling like back to school football kind of weather. at least for next few days. take a look what's going on right now we'll take you outside center city feeling nice and warm. skies are generally clear. just a few clouds here and there mainly from showers and thunderstorms that had been rumbling off to the west but mainly stayed off to the west. that is good news. let's take peak what's going on what the day looked like in margate, a little bit of a better beach day today than it was the past few days, still the beach looking sparse, in and out

of the clouds all day on this time laps and people vacated early. watch out for the rough surf and rip currents. hermine is finally dying and moving away but the ocean is still quite rough. stormscan 3 does show a couple of spotty showers drifting through western berks county. that's the closest to our area. rest are over by harrisburg where they've been moving pretty much in the same locations from north to south. bringing heavy rain, heavy rain we could use but nothing really getting in here for us. warmer pattern lies ahead through the end of the week, we got a cold front draped across the great lakes, any cool, dry salt-like air is locked up north of that boundary. we'll be seeing this fronts creep southward, kind of that heat pump from the south and west. . heat and humidity being pumped in and we'll feel it tomorrow and saturday. we're within three, four degrees of the records. this is a very old record friday, 94, our forecast high 92. doesn't look like we'll beat the record but we'll be close. future weather keeps it generally dry.

we need the rain. tomorrow clouds and sun. showers and storms really fizzle before they get here. friday features a better chance of a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms. we're now over four inches above average in rainfall. that's just since june 1st. it has been a very dry summer for us. and really not a lot of appreciable rain on the way. tomorrow, partly sunny hot and humid. 93, at the shore, temperatures in the upper 80's. steamy but more sunshine friday and saturday, recouping a couple beach days. the heat wave ends in time for the eagles game. 84 turning less humid, nice breeze, really nice sunday afternoon. tailgaters may see a shower early but clears out in the afternoon, next week starts off on a beautiful note. we got to get through the next three days and it may feel like close to 100. a heat advisory tomorrow. >> that's when you don't have to be in a suit >> tailgaters at eagles game
