about on a friday night we will need rain and a lot of people outside tonight. we have got big concerts going on a lot happening in the city and tonight is quiet for now. most of the showers missing us off to the north. we have a few passing by in the lehigh valley and poconos, nothing severe, just a few scattered showers getting much needed rain up that way as well. you can see heavier one is starting to push out into new jersey. so it is just a hot dry evening if you are out and about in the city. temperatures right now have fallen off, their daytime highs, possibly only good thing about a september heat wave verse a july heat wave, because temperatures drop quicker as sunset is earlier, but it is 91 still in philadelphia. ninety-two in trenton. ninety in millville. 92 degrees in atlantic city right now. here's what it feels like. we have to factor that in. dew points around 70 across the region making it feel five to 10 degrees hotter then thermometer would have you believe. still feeling like 103 degrees in dover. still feels like 98 in philadelphia. ninety-eight in millville. ninety-seven in atlantic city.

out tonight, this is still dangerous heat, if you you are tailgating, bruce springsteen concert tonight on the blacktop it is going to feel, very, very sweltering, this evening. so please, take plenty of precautions drink plenty of water. here's our record high 95 degrees today. the old record was 94 set in 1884, 132 years that record has stood for that long in philadelphia. today we broke it at 95 degrees. the atlantic city by the wait hit 97 breaking previous record of nine two. heat advisory has been extended, that now goes until 7h o'clock tomorrow evening and as you can see it now includes all of the area, yesterday shore points were not included to day atlantic city hit 97. shore points you now included, entire region until 7:00 p.m. saturday but sunday looks a whole lot different just in time for eagles game. we will have have more coming up with the seven day in a few minutes, ukee and jessica back to you. lets bring you up to date to our breaking news, police standoff with an armed man is

underway in west philadelphia after police say that man shot at an officer. >> police surrounded a home on the 200 block of south millick street. "eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer is there with more, nicole. >> reporter: ukee and jessica we are here at 60th and walnut street where police have completely shut down this road after a hostage situation essentially turned into a crime scene. we are told by commissioner moments ago about two blocks up on the 200 block of south millick street police say a man was barricaded inside a home for about an hour and a half were four children and two other adults inside. police tell us they were called out to a domestic incident just present 4:30 and when they arrived the officers were invited inside by a female, at some point, a male started shooting at police from the kitchen area inside that home at which point officers fired back striking that male and then took cover. he was brought out on a stretcher. we are told that male shooter after successful negotiations by the philadelphia police

department and swat team members is now in stable condition. the it is not clear who fired the shots. we also know a female was struck in the arm, this female possibly the male shooter's sister. he was taken to presbyterian hospital in stable condition. as you can tell a very active scene out here in cobbs creek with the philadelphia police commissioner out here as well as city police, fire departments and as well as swat team mens but for now good news in all this is negotiations were successful, everyone is safe, of course, two people with gunshot wound are in stable condition. that is very latest live from cobbs creek, nicole brewer, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> nicole, thank you for that update. as we continue tonight day is finally here. >> police officer seriously wounded in the line of duty is back on the job in delaware county. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is live in folcroft with more on this, greg. >> reporter: good evening, guys. the it has been exactly two months and 15 days since

folcroft boro police officer christopher dorman was shot by a suspect seven times, incredibly he fully recovered and tonight he is back on the job. >> never had a chance for emotion to set in from day one, horrible news he received on the way to the hospital and before that sibking in you find out he will be okay, then he is released and then it is 100 percent recovery. it is hard to believe. >> two months later he is back to work. >> reporter: on friday june 24th, christopher dorman was responding to what the chief says is a pretty average call. someone dialing 911 reporting possible drug activity. when he arrived and confronted the suspect donte island dorman was ambush, island shot him seven times including once in the face. incredibly survived. none of the injuries were life threatening. dorman was even released from the hospital that following monday. ever since, he tells us he has been waiting for today.

>> i tried to do some fishing when i could, hung out with my girlfriend, played video games a couple times. >> reporter: did you think you would be back to work this scene. >> i would have been back sooner if i could have. >> reporter: incredible story, christopher dorman is going back on the street tonight in his patrol car starting around 6:45 and working throughout the evening. as i mentioned he was shot seven times, three of those bullets hit his bullet resistant vest. that vest is being used as evidence for the case against the suspect, so right now, christopher dorman is wearing a loaner vest until one is made for him. we are live from folcroft i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you for that. in the race for president campaign trail ran through philadelphia again today. >> the nation is just 59 days away from electing the next commander in chief. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren campaigned for hillary clinton and pennsylvania democratic the senate candidate katie mcgiant toy day. guys. >> lots happening. >> i'm telling you you, can't wait. in other news devastating floods last month near baton rouge, louisiana left thousands homeless and for some no place to house their pets. >> now some of those animals have arrived in our area and "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon introduces you to the dogs and tells you how you can adopt one. >> reporter: for more than a dozen dogs at camden county animal shelter, home is now far, far away. >> just received 18 dogs from the louisiana floods. >> reporter: dogs were transported here to make room for displaced dogs in areas hit hard by recent louisiana flooding. twelve cats from vermont. that flooding killed 11 people and left more than 150,000 homes destroyed. >> we received great danes, she's four years old. we have lab puppies, we have hound puppies. we have all sorts of dogs. >> reporter: shelter officials warn that while they have

might make you bring you to tears and call your wife and hug her, hug your dopey buddy, it is just like going to church. >> reporter: amen to drinking water. red cross, says hydration has to be everybody top priority at outdoor events in excessive heat. >> it is critical that they hydrate. it doesn't sound like fun but every time you throw back a fear throw back two bottles of water. >> reporter: watch your friend for signs of heat-related illness. >> they are moving slow, they are not making great eye contact, again, the headache, if they are clammy to the touch, those are all things that a person is in distress. >> reporter: get them in the shade, give them water, put ice on their arms and necks and when in doubt call 911. take it easy in the heat, after all when are seeing springsteen or adele down the street you can't enjoy concert if you don't make it inside. >> i hope a lot of people drink a lot of water.

tonight was the first sexual transmission of the zika virus in pennsylvania, the state health officials are issuing new warnings about receive sex for people hoff been to zika hot spots. >> health reporter stephanie stahl has more on the new concerns. >> reporter: new concerns here state health officials are not saying anything pot patient, where this happened, or when. and now with the first sexual transmission, experts say, that the risk for the virus is spreading, and growing. no zika infect mosquitoes have been detect in pennsylvania, the new case happened when the unidentified person, traveled to one of the areas where there is active zika transmission, and was infect by a mosquito there.

new information and we're adjusting on a weekly basis. we're learning a lot about the virus and it is not necessarily acting like many of the other viruses we are familiar with. >> reporter: also, today the head of the cdc warned that babies will be born in the united states with zika birth defects, because of a lack of funding from congress. of course, politicians in washington, still fighting over that funding. >> we will see what happens there. >> stephanie, thanks. philadelphia university and jefferson university make it official, the president of both institutions, held a news conference at philly u's new fashion and textiles center about next step in their merger plans. two institutions entered into a combination agreement that would see the universities become one centered on professional education. merger is expect to be completed next year, once finalized the university will become the fifth largest in the philadelphia. kate's here. we have been sweating it out

tonight, indoors but maybe folks getting ready parking doing all that and weather should cooperate as far as rain is concern. in rain in our area despite the fact that we do need some. take a peak at temperatures, we have dropped a few degrees off that day time height. ninety-five for the high. now 91. ninety-one in reading. eighty-eight in allentown. cooler in the north and western suburbs because of more cloud cover. you can see record will be mainly from the city south. trenton, philadelphia, wilmington, atlantic city, georgetown delaware all broke record today. we did in the break record in allentown and reading. stayed just shy of these record there. tomorrow we are in the 90's, warm, very steamy day this front comes through tomorrow night and a lot with it. sunday even though it is much nicer day it is a transition day. front will be clearing, can't rule out a stray shower during first half of the day and more cloud early's then sun comes out in the afternoon and sun take evening looks fantastic. may even start eagles game with a few cloud and more sunshine by the time game end,

it is that transition but feeling better a and not as hot. monday beautiful, sunny, nice, still sunshine high around 80 degrees. today felt like 103 at times. tomorrow feels hike 100. sunday at its worse will feel like 87. that is number we can handle. overnight stray shower or localized downpour off to the north. low of 76. last nights we didn't drop below 80 in philadelphia tomorrow hot and humid, storms possible at night 94, and heading to the shore, poconos it will be hot both of those places as well with the chance for afternoon or evening then are storm transitioning out of the heat and more comfortable weather in time for the eagles game. eighty-four at kick off. that will feel much better. monday looks beautiful, tuesday looks great, thunderstorm wednesday but behind that we are in the mid 90's thursday and friday, next week mid 07's. >> how about that. >> big change. >> up next preview of buba chuck's hall of fame inn tucks we're talking
