i'm kenneth craig in new york with that story coming up. well, good morning to you. today is saturday, september 10th. i'm rahel solomon. let's get you started with a check on weather justin dray brick. i have a friends in town from la. i have no idea what i'll do with her outside, maybe go to the movies? >> she probably doesn't want to be out in this, not used to mid 90s out there. stay inside. come on, you better not. >> no, no. >> show her the town, show her what philly is all about. cranking out the 90s, four days in a row now, then get some relief in here, second half of the weekends. some improvement coming at us the next 24 hours, still going to be warm for this time of year for the next new days, but humidity levels start backing off, especially by tomorrow afternoon. so, again, something to look forward to. outside again right now looking at temperatures generally in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees across most locations, very high humidity, so the heat advisory continues until 7:00 this evening, the exception, right along the

immediate shore line. and the dew point temperatures, again, this tells us the story, with the humidity levels, when they're above six a, that's when it starts to feel humid in the 70s, and that's pretty much tropical, if you want it stay inside in the air-conditioning if you can. temperatures again close to 80 in philadelphia, mid 70s in the coolest suburb, just north and west, willow grove checking in at 74 degrees, this hour, 74, also, mt. holly, new jersey. now, we do have needed rain up in the poconos early this morning. couple of thunderstorm, that's moving off to the north and east right now, so, improving conditions if you have outdoor plans up in the mountains this afternoon, so looking pretty good there. beach plans, no problems. soap, forecast high today, getting up to 94 degrees, around philadelphia, 80s at the shore, tomorrow, temperatures back off a little bit. eighty-five for the high, our average 80, but at least humidity levels continue to drop through the day on sunday, so it stays pleasant next week. and then if you like cooler temperatures in the 70s, we've got that covered in the seven day forecast, let you know

when that arrives coming up in a few more minutes, rahel, back to you. >> we'll check back with you soon, thank you, justin. new this morning, philadelphia police are trying to find out what led to a stabbing in overbrook. the call came in just before 2:30, to the 1600 block of north 60th street. the victim is in stage condition. no word on a suspect. police investigating an accident involving at least two cars. it happened at the intersection of north clinton avenue and popular streets. there are no reports of injuries. well, nothing short of remarkable, an amazing recovery for a folcroft police officer shot in the line of duty. now, after two and a half months, operation err christopher dorman is back on the job. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos was, there and the officer was hurt at work. >> christopher dorman is feeling what each of the 21 officers do each and every day. geared up, ready for work, and patrolling the streets of the town he cherishes. >> i had a great time growing up here, cops when was growing

up always made sure i was safe, nothing happened. and i just want to give that back, make sure they're safe and nothing happens to them. >> what makes dorman different though is what happened to him just two and a half months ago. june 24th, responding to routine call for possible drug activity, investigators say, dante island ambushed the officer, shooting him seven times, including once in the face. >> he never had a chance for the emotion to set in, from day one. horrible news you receive, and you're on your way to the hospital, and before that is singing in you find out he's going to be okay, then he's released. then a hundred% recovery. and it is just hard to believe. then here we are, going back to work. >> i'm not very good at sitting around, been at my house watching it. v is kind of boring. >> the officer said he's not worried one bit about getting back to the job he lovers and back to his fowl craft police family. >> i don't even think of them as co-workers any more,

they're my brothers and sisters. >> reporter: as you heard, dorman was shot seven times, three in his bullet resistant vest. that vest is being used as evidence in the case. right now, officer dorman is using a temporary vest until accustom made one is fitted for him. reporting here in folcroft, i'm greg argos, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> a stand-off with police in west philadelphia ends with a suspect shot. officers responded to the 200 block of south millick street around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. the woman was shot in the arm, possibly in a domestic dispute. police say a suspect barricaded himself inside the home, and fired at police, who returned fire. the suspect was shot, but by whom exactly this morning remains unclear. a neighbor eyewitness the chaos. >> going to take him out of the house, that was kind of crazy on the stretcher, put him in the ambulance. >> and both the suspect and the woman are in the hospital. but both are expected to survive.

police in a burlington county community are searching for a suspect and four robberies. three victims provide descriptions to maple shade police which resulted in the sketches which if you take a look are all remarkably very similar to robberies started last month, police say the suspect works his way into the house, then moves about quickly, often asking for a drink. three of the victims were over the age of 80. if you have any information, maple shade police want to hear from you. >> thirty-five years after shooting president ronald reagan john hinkly is planning to leave a mental hospital for good. hinkly shot america's 40th president on march the 30th, 1981. he was found guilty, not guilty, rather, i should say, by reason of inch apartment day. judge ruled he is not a danger to himself or the public. he will now live full time in his mother's home in williamsburg, virginia, he will, how much, still have to abide by a a number of restrictions and a work requirement. >> national security took the spot in 2016 day off north korea completed another

victims to sue the government of saudi arabia, senate passed the bill in may, despite strong objections, key us ally, the white house however has hinted that it might veto the legislation. >> ♪ >> and for the first time the new york police department held a procession in lower manhattan to mark the 9/11 attacks. nypd emerald society pipes and drums band, played and marched and remembered the victim. organizers scheduled the procession to avoid any conflict with sunday's official memorial service which marks 15 years since the twin towers came down. and, as we approach this solemn anniversary, a new york city man captured a stunning picture of one world trade center. ben sterner posted this picture on instagram. took the pictures from keens, it looks at one world trade center from there every day. but he says it is never quite look like this. the beam of light remained for

ten minutes. >> and 15 years after the world trade center attacks, cancer remains one of the biggest concerns for first responders, survivors and residents. so far more than 5,000 people have been diagnosed with cancers related to 9/11. here's cbs reporter kenneth craig. >> so how are you feeling today? >> today i'm feeling okay. >> john says he has good days and bad days. but he tries to stay positive. the former new york city deputy police chief is battling non-hodgkin's lymphoma, a blood cancer, 15 years after the twin towers collapsed in front of his eyes. and the dust cloud blanketed downtown. >> it hurts to breathe. you know, i was sitting in my office, inside, and it was hurting. >> new research from the new york city department of health shows rescue and recovery workers as well as residents he can posted to the dust and debris have been increased risk of cancer. the study finds significant increases in prostate cancer and melanoma.

doctor michael crane leads the world trade center health program at mount sinai hospital. >> the exposure at world trade have a definite impact on the rate of cancer in our population, and we will continue to see that increase above and beyond. >> he says doctors in his program are now diagnosing ten to 15 new cancer cases each week, including rare cancers like cars nudes. >> you can go through an entire medical career and never see a patient with this. and we i think now have something like 16, 17, 18, in our population. >> many patients like him have been diagnosed when multiple cancers. his prostate cancer is now in remission. and the lymphoma is stable. >> i feel kind of lucky and blessed that i'm not as sick as -- >> he's sharing his story to encourage more people to take that first step and get checked out. kenneth craig, for cbs-3, "eyewitness news". still ahead on "eyewitness news", turnoff the phone.

73 degrees, down in newark, delaware. dolores one of the cooler spot coming in at 71, car any mt. laurel, new jersey, also in the mid 70s at this hour. ed in chesterfields, 72. you get the idea. everybody pretty much the same, mid and low 70s, at 76 at lynn's house in cherry hill. and down in middletown delaware jason also coming in to mid 70s at this hour. and we're seeing partly cloudy skies right now, sun coming up in about 20, 25 minutes or so. so we will get rapid warm upcoming into the afternoon once again, highs reaching the low and mid 90s. we take you down to cape may county, middle township, high school, cape may courthouse. getting ready for nice sunrise, mid to high level clouds out, there not producing any rainfall overall through the outdoor plans today, looks pretty good, headed to the shore, no problems, even up in the poconos, you got rid of the showers that were around earlier this morning, moving off to the north and east, we will be dry through most of the region today. there is a told front well to our west. that will approach us overnight tonight. maybe we get a scattered shower or storm, through the

overnight house, that's our best chance for some needed rain. other than that, just hot, humid conditions today. still going to be very warm tomorrow. humidity drops. dew point temperatures now, this is tropical. this, see this, not too often in september, dew point in the 70s, what's it feels oppressive, feels like that throughout the day today. watch what happens. the reason for the humidity south winds, pretty strong, ten to 15 miles per hour, today the south winds continue tonight, even into tomorrow morning, we still have that southerly wind. but notice what happens, poconos, northwest, berks county, start to see the west northwest winds, cold front will pass through tomorrow morning, then by the afternoon nice breeze coming out of the northwest. it pushes out the humidity, so better conditions coming in, sunday afternoon, and even monday, weaver northeast winds, keeps humidity levels on the lower side too. something to look forward to, if you don't like the humid kens. today still feeling oppressive. tomorrow get better. monday, tuesday, very pleasant, and that trend continues through much of the upcoming week, as we head

toward the middle of september. so, if you are tired of this heat and humidity, we got some cool thoughts for you, fall countdown, one day until the eagles opener. thirty-seven days until we average 70 degrees for the afternoon high. and daylight saving time comes to an end in 57 days. get little depressed when that, then the 75 days until thanksgiving. so there you go. something to think about there. but still, beach weather for sure. really for the next several weeks. we could get good days here, today one of those, 87 degrees, sun and clouds, along the coastline, little breeze kicks up this afternoon, uv index still running high this time of year. you'll need the sun block. ninety ad's today. tomorrow 80's, still warm this time of year. combed front comes through, kicking off next week early, looks pretty nice, monday high pressure in control, very pleasant conditions, sunny, low humidity, temperatures lower 80s close to average. future weather model, not showing much happening today. sunshine mixed when clouds. tonight, you can see, more clouds rolling on through. maybe shower or two this model not picking up really much rain at all. the chance is there.

low and mid 90s this afternoon, heat indexes possibly as high as 103. specially around philadelphia. so spending extra time outside, still got to take it easy, and drink plenty of water, keep the pets hydrated as well. look at the temperatures right now, not really much change no matter where you are. mid 70s in the coolest spots in the lehigh valley, the exception the mountains coming in the upper 60s, upper 70s for wilmington, philadelphia, dover. factor in the humidity, feels like the low eight's already this morning. storm scan3, mid to high level clouds, that's about it, call it partly sunny today, kim of showers overnight in the poconos, they've moved out of the region on our way up to 94 for philadelphia, 87 at the shore, nice little breeze, some sunshine this afternoon, and the poconos, 83, very humid, with chance for late day shower or storm. there will be cold front that comes through overnight tonight, put a change in the forecast, and headed for the second half of the weekend, talk about that coming up in a few more minutes, rahel, back to you. >> thank up, see you soon. and after yesterday's record

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff live along kelly drive, runners and joggers, trying to beat the worse of the heat. >> hey, right now it feels pretty good. if it can stay like this all day, all year, i would be happy. with a we are going to feel today would be hot for july or august. and here we are, in september. you know, what we have to remember, go on this time, we are is in september. might be seasoned at some of the scorching temperature in the area right now, important not to get lenient about heat safety and recognizing factors in other that could mean over exposure. such as clammy necessary, confuse, really slow moving, or seize to go sweat at all. that will can tell that you something is very wrong. that's why people like these are getting their workouts very recall i on. she said she learned her lesson what trying to power through the midday heat.

>> thank you, the devastating floods last month in louisianna left thousands homeless. and for some, there was no place to take their pet. but now, some of those animals are in south jersey and you can adopt one. >> more than dozen dogs at the camden county animal shelter home is now far, far away. >> i just received 18 dogs over the week due to the floods. >> dogs transported here to make room for displaced dogs, and areas hit hard by the recent louisianna flooding. twelve were begin to vermont. that will flooding killed at least 11 people, left more than 150,000 homes destroyed. >> we received everything. great dane, she is four years old, we have labs, puppies, we have pound pup ills. we have all sort of dogs. >> shelter officials warn that they've received 18, it probably won't stay that way for long. >> there are some people in today.

>> now you have 17? >> now we have 17. >> for the goalie family, whose dog passed away earlier this summer, who said they've been to the camden county animal shelter before, they say there is trip was different. this was love at first site. >> she just looked so friendly, so happy, you know, she looks so healthy. she just came right to us. you know, she said all right, take me. you know? she is adorable. >> now, a second chance at love, and a happy home for them both. and they were all so sweet. and workers at the camden county animal shelter tell me all of the dogs have been spade and neutered and cleared by the vet. so if you think you might want to adopt one, the shelter on county house road in blackwood. stolen menorrah back in the possession of the congress great of bet solomon synogogue and community center in northeast philadelphia. someone was caught on camera stealing it from the front lawn last month. synogogue tells "eyewitness news" young man returned the menorrah yesterday. no word though if he was actually the same person who stole it. >> a new jersey appeals court
