on this, cleve. >> reporter: atlantic city police say it is prayers that have been answered that officer vadell is alive and more than 100 people were here at the hospital today to wish him well in the next phase of his recovery. >> applause. >> reporter: as one on looker so powerfully stated that is what a real hero looks like. his name is josh vadell. less than two weeks ago officer vadell suffered a gunshot wound to the head when police say he and his partner interrupted an armed robbery. vadell's partner opened fire and killed one suspect, two others are since been charged with attempted murder. >> they happened upon a situation where they were looking to help people. it is a happenedly evolving high stressed incident where officers are expected to make decisions in seconds, and thank god, you know, they act add pope eighthly. >> reporter: fortunately for

vadell he was a few blocks from the trauma center in atlantic care regional medical center. >> he was talking the moment he reached the hospital. >> reporter: team of doctors who performed emergency surgery on vadell said his survival is remarkable. >> it is, gunshot wound to the head are generally, don't have a good outcome. >> it will take sometime but we're optimistic he will make a full recovery. >> reporter: vadell's wife lauren who will deliver the couple's third child was at his side as mayor, fire department, and e ms, and fellow police officers gave an emotional send off. next step, several months of rehab billtation. >> it is amazing. you can see, the comradery, everybody is very grateful that we're able to take part in this. >> reporter: officer vadell had to have a helmet on. they had to remove part of the skull, follow-up surgery for that. but they do expect, hopefully a full recovery. he is at an unkiss closed

rehand center in philadelphia reporting live, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> emotional indeed, cleve, thank you. jurors for trial of the man charged in the deadly ambush of the pennsylvania state trooper in the poconos will come from our area eric frein is accused of killing corporal brian dickson in 2014. frein led authorities on a 48 day manhunt, before he was captured. officials say that the jurors will be pick in march from chester county. this trial is set for milford pike county next spring. a police suv is involved in the crash in fail's mayfair section. it happened at frankford and cheltenham avenue. officers from the 15th district were responding to a call when they collided with a gray toyota rav4. both officers in the police suv were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. two people in the toyota were also taken to the hospital, with minor injuries. cdc says there have been 43 confirmed cases of mosquito born cases of zika in the united states. many of those cases in the state of florida. but one philadelphia based lobbies at the forefront to

find a vaccine. our greg argos joins us along the schuylkill to explain, greg. >> reporter: ukee, good afternoon. first and foremost there have been no mosquito born zika cases yet here, in pennsylvania. but, of course, we have plenty of breeding ground, plenty of water, so a case is always possible but none if the doctors at one philadelphia based laboratory have it their way. >> we are watching this just like everybody else, epidemic in brazil and south america. >> reporter: so pharmaceuticals president doctor joseph teamed up with doctor david at wistar institute to develop a safe vaccine to battle zika virus. >> fast forward nine months, we have the first zika vaccine to be approved by f.d.a. to be approved for human testing. >> reporter: vaccine was created in this lab and now being tested in 40 people. some here in philadelphia before being push to the food

and drug administration, for hopeful approval. >> our main technology was born out of here and zika vaccine was made here. >> reporter: what makes this vaccine different is the fact that it is not live, it is fully synthetic created entirely on a computer. >> it toss than the grow, can the not replicate, cannot spread to other individual. >> reporter: the doctor says that essentially this means that the vaccine will prepare body if infected with zika at a later date. >> maybe feels rehearsed, we don't always mentally shoot somebody. we are rehearsing it, to make them able so when they encounter pathogen they would be prepared. >> reporter: already early results seem promising. these black dots show sample of t cells which grew, in a patient, same cells that would fight a true zika infection. >> it respond here, it is a very good indication that will generate t cells that see the zika virus. >> reporter: right new there is no set release date for this vaccine. it just depend on two different factors.

not too hot but not too cool, just right. you can be outside in short sleeves, shirts and not feel chilly but definitely not feeling the sweat pouring down your face like we did yesterday with our record tying highs of 92. look at a beautiful shot in kutztown where it is 72 degrees on our live neighborhood network. a few clouds, blue skies, 72, feeling fantastic. hint of fall in the air today. storm scan three shows nothing happening, but you can see front that came through last night. that front doing us favors because it is keeping moisture from what was tropical storm julia suppressed to the south. remember yesterday tropical storm julia was heavily loaded on the northeast side of the system and as it has moved out to sea, heavier rain is falling over the atlantic ocean and it has moved away from the carolinas. that is good news. what we have to watch is a system loading up over portions of the northern plains and that could get here by late sunday, even early sunday. a couple showers here and there abe that may link inner to monday. we do need any rainfall, that

system wants to bring us. temperatures, right now, feeling good, 77 degrees in philadelphia. at the moment 75 in allentown. sixty-nine in wildwood. sixty-five in mount pocono. sharp contrast to yesterday's heat. we got to 92 for the high yesterday, today's high so far just 78. that is about 14-degree drop, in temperatures from yesterday, to today, and easily when we get this big drop we will get explosive thunderstorms but front came through generally dry yesterday. our last day was measurable rain was september 1st. we have .47 inches, only rain this month. you can see vast majority of our area is in a dry state, or even a moderate drought across central new jersey. future weather keeps us dry through tonight, through much of the day tomorrow, and into saturday as well and then saturday night into sunday that is when this front approaches just a few more clouds and possibly a couple of scattered showers here's early sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. a few showers to the north and west. but in the meantime, expect a cool, comfortable night. we are down to a temperature

now. time for police responding to an armed robbery at a camden county gas station overnight. take a look at this surveillance video just before 10:30 last night police say suspect armed with the handgun and wearing a black mask approached an attendant at a gas station. authorities say two struggled a bit before suspect fled the scene with $800 in cash. anyone with any information is asked to reach out to police. police are searching foreman who pulled a gun on another man, at the wells fargo atm on the 3400 block of aramingo avenue on sunday, september 4th. that suspect got away with $80. the suspect is dressed in black, and if you recognize him, call the police. also call police if you recognize, this suspect, surveillance video caught this man taking a package from the front steps of the residents on the 2500 block of monday trees street, back on the first of august. he put that package in the trash can, and then, rolled it away. same suspect did the same thing, august 31st.

police shot ape killed a 13 year-old in ohio after apparently mistaking his bee-bee gun for a real gun. shooting happened during an investigation of an armed robbery in columbus, on wednesday. police say officers tried to take two suspects into custody when one pulled a weapon from his waist band. the officers opened fire, killing 13 year-old tyre king. city's police chief showed a picture of what the weapon looked like. >> it also had a laser light attached to it, right underneath the barrel. our officers carry a gun that looks practically identical to this weapon. >> an attorney for tyre's family called for a fair, independent investigation into the boy's death. his parents do not believe that he was involved in an armed robbery. the family of sandra bland has reached a 1.9 million-dollar settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit. police arrested bland during a traffic stop in texas last july. three days later she was found dead in her jail cell, her

and breaking news right now authorities say that a suspect attacked a new york city police officer, with a meat cleaver. violence happened near penn station just a short time ago. this is live right now. police shot the suspect immediately after the attack. the officer suffered a laceration wound and was taken to an area hospital. there is no word on the condition of the suspect. well, every year young children die when they are left in hot cars, but new technology is being developed
