carter a small reminder of the night the eight year-old was shot the in the head fatally during a shooting in the the street near her house. >> we had, a drug gang, that was shooting at an intended target that was not the little girl. >> reporter: now more than three weeks after that shooting at eighth and spruce in camden police say they have made an arrest but it is not gunman who was behind bars. >> arrested and charged thatkeya land with hindering, obstruction of justice, and she provided false information to us, regarding an alibi. >> reporter: she discussed -- scott thompson says her arrest is a warning to others trying to block this investigation. >> we will get every person that is responsible for this not the just those that pulled the trigger but everything that led up to that event, and every individual that is obstructing or investigation. >> reporter: for those living in this area feet from where gabriel was murder order resting those responsible is top priority. >> same sense if it was your child you would definitely

as her husband was being held at gunpoint a frankford area woman turn the tables on the gun man. it happened last night before 11:00 p.m. on the 100 block of pratt street. pastor robert cook and his son came face-to-face with the gunman as they were trying to enter their home. cook's wife was just getting out of their car and has license to carry a gun. when she saw what was happening, she came to the rescue. >> i heard my wife saying drop the gun, drop the gun, she's got the her gun and he turned toward her and i said shoot him, shoot him, and she shot him. >> reporter: gunman fled from the scene by clinging to the back of the passing suv, police later found him on the highway suffering from a gunshot wound, he was transported to frankford hospital and remains in police custody. a new york city police detective is out of the hospital tonight, after getting attack by a man with the meat cleaver. brian o'donnell who had his face slashed, was greet by cheers as he left bellevue hospital. two other officers suffered

non-life threatening injuries in the scuffle with that suspect. police say that the suspect attacked officers as they tried to stop him from removing a boot from the vehicle he was apparently living in. the suspect is hospitalized tonight. search continues for a black bear that has been the spotted several times in delaware and montgomery counties. the lets show you photo of the bear which was last seen on tuesday, it prompted a lock down of the ethan elementally school in radnor. today police from radnor and haverford launched a drone did you you but did not see any signs of the bear. infrared camera used also came up empty. officials are hoping to relocate the bear to a less populated area. weather-wise we are looking like a good weekend for the most part. meteorologist kate bilo/the sky deck what is this bay hiccup in the forecast. >> little hiccup, ukee but good news the worst of this next advancing front will be mainly sunday night. we could see a couple pop up showers before then, heaviest sunday into monday. that is good on two accounts. most of the weekend will be okay to get outside and also

>> playing the piano. >> reporter: less than a year ago he was hospitalized battling leukemia the most common cancer in children. >> that is the worst thing you could possibly think is i have zero control over this and i could very well lose my child, period. >> reporter: new government study says that the chances of surviving childhood cancer are i am loving, from 1999 through 204, there was a 20 percent drop in cancer deaths among children and adolescence. >> immune therapy, cell therapy, these will be brought to bear to improve on this progress, such that we expect continued steady decline in deaths from childhood cancer. >> reporter: study found that leukemia is no longer the leading cause of cancer deaths for youngsters. three out of ten cancer deaths are now from brain cancer. >> progress is lagging behind in brain tumors. we have to redouble our efforts to i am roof outcome for those children. >> reporter: after five months of chemotherapy, aidan is now cancer free and giving back to

well, happening right now pretty wild sight in sea isle city. >> yeah, huge hump back whale washed a shore and our cleve bryan left millville and just got to that scene. he joins us live right now. what can you tell us, cleve. >> reporter: nicole and ukee hundreds of people stopping by here many describing this as fascinating and extremely sad, earlier this afternoon the whale washed up on the beach here right around 20th street in sea isle, chopper three was over the scene as experts from the marine mammal stranding center from brigantine came down here to try to determine what was going on with the whale. the best they can tell it is a 33-foot long juvenile male, hump back whale, which arrived here's mace eighthed but they cannot tell a cause of death just by looking at the whale. they believe it was floating in the ocean for anywhere from four to five days before it washed up on the beach here.

typically, this whale at this age would have been, with its mother, out at sea, but as of right now they are trying to determine if there are any other whales that are associated with this one. most common cause of death according to experts being hit by a boat the but they are not sure yet. they have to perform a autopsy but they have drug the whale away from the surf. they have it sectioned off so nobody gets sick and nobody touches it. reporting live, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> okay cleve, keep us updated. a judge in atlanta ruled against bobbi kristina brown's partner nick gordon in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her estate. judge signed a order saying gordon repeat thely failed to meet court deadlines in the case and therefore the estate wins by default. jury trial will be set to determine how long gordon will be required to pay in damages. brown was daughter of singer's whitney houston and bobby brown. she died last july after she was found face down unresponse any of a bathtub in her home. well, as we told you earlier, bruce springsteen is

well. it has warmed up nicely in the afternoon. hopefully if you sent kid to school in their sweat shirts had them in the short sleeve shirt underneath it is 78 degrees at the moment. seventy-eight in allentown. seventy-four in millville. 69 degrees in atlantic city. they keep it comfortable throughout overnight hours. temperatures dropping in the 50's in many spots but this is our next weather maker. you can see a front moving through great lakes it does have decent moisture with it. this front is going to be slowing down as it moves towards us, through the weekend and it will be a slow, flow here sunday into monday with showers and storms possible. tomorrow is generally a dry day but we will have have an increase in clouds later in the afternoon but most of the the day partly sunny. there could be a pop up shower here and there but most of saturday could be a okay. front is way back to the west. on sunday we will get into the warm sector of this advancing front, that means it is warm, steamy, mostly cloudy a and there will be a chance for pop up shower but it is not a total wash out. steady rain will come through overnight sunday night into

monday morning. you can see steadier showers here even 2:00 p.m. monday this rain will be hanging around, that tropical moisture from julia, may actually work its way in to this system and not the actual storm just enhanced moisture and that means we could see enhanced rainfall rates. sunday at 4:00 p.m. we have not seen more than a stray shower, but sunday into monday, we could end up with half inch to an inch of rain across the area which is very good news. we need anything we can get. here is tropical storm julia, by the way, we will look at the track on that in a few minutes but we also now have another tropical storm to tell but tropical storm karl, thinks one to watch, moving across the atlantic and will strengthen in tie hurricane. here's julia. the latest track is moving the system just a little bit more as we head in the weekend with that moisture trying to work its way in to our advancing cold front. so, for your saturday mix of sun and clouds. it will be progressively more humid throughout date but still comfortable at 81 for your daytime high. sunday clouds and scattered

ship christian serenity entered new york harbor and sailed into history. the first full sized ship to sail the treacherous northwest passage, here is the captain. >> it was quite a voyage report thort northwest passage is where arctic ocean links northern atlantic and pacific oceans, glazers and thick sea ice make it impassable but warming temperatures have thin the ice and cleared the path. ship had extra safety equipment including ice radar. >> we brought on board two very experienced canadian ice pilots who brought the knowledge about ice. >> reporter: ship left alaska on august 16th on its 900-mile journey through arctic and on to new york. >> it was exciting. >> reporter: barbara peter and robert rosenwall called it a great adventure. >> the idea was to see wild things and ice, and we did. >> 900 passengers took the

partly sunny. nice day to get outside. just an up tic in humidity. sunday the front will a approach. this is a slow moving front, wilt slow down as it does so, parking itself to the west on sunday. we are in the warm sector of this front. southeasterly wind and before the front comes through we will feel increase in temperature and humidity and chance for a couple of showers. sunday into monies when showers linger and this is moisture from tropical storm julia now a tropical storm at that point but moisture will get pulled in, enhancing rainfall rates. even though it is not a steady heavy rain all damon any shower that pops up could have intense downpours associated with it. looking at weekend, close look, our mess owe scale r p.m. model which shows high resolution detail where showers will pop up. we will start on saturday at 3:00 p.m., a couple scattered showers in delaware, rest of us looking at sun and clouds. sunday morning we will start off with a couple scattered

jessica dean. we want to send it out to "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan live from the scene on the 20th street beach, cleve. >> reporter: nicole, as you can imagine a lot of people coming down to sea isle for weekend, many here on the beach want to check out the whale themselves, describing it as something that is fascinating because they have never seen it before but also sad, that this is a juvenile whale that has washed up on the beach, near sea isle. we arrived early this afternoon, as we were pulling the whale from the surf the to the back of the beach where they could contain it, keep from it people because it has been out the at sea, experts estimate, four or five days of decomposed. is there strong smell and, of course, risk of bacteria if people were to touch it, things of that nature. they don't know exactly why the whale, died, why it washed up. sometimes it happens because a ship may pass by and strike the whale. they want to learn more about that but i spoke to the marine mammal stran
