live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". now on "eyewitness news", a city on edge. charlotte north carolina is the latest in a protest, unrest that began after the deadly shooting after man in that city who police say had a gun. the mayor of charlotte is appealing for everyone to be calm. good afternoon, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm brooke thomas. when the dust settles, police say the unrest left about dozen officers hurt including one who was allegedly hit in the face with a rock. correspondent don champion has

more now from charlotte. >> the best, preparing for the worse. >> police in charlotte, north carolina say they're ready for more protests after night of violence following the fatal police shooting of keith lamont scott. sixteen officers were hurt, as demonstrators through rocks and bottles. officers in riot gear fired tear gas, to break up the crowd, several police cruisers were damaged. >> with that behavior becomes violent, restless, destructive, we have to act as we did. >> police say scott was spotted during a search for a suspect wanted for an outstanding warrant, they say, he got out of his car, caring a handgun, and ignored repeated commands to drop it. >> he stepped out posing a threat to the officers, and officer brently vincent subsequently fired his weapon. >> scott's family says he was unarmed and was reading a book when police approached him.

>> they just said hands up, he got a gun, he got a gun, pow, pow, pow. that's it. he had no gun. >> but police say a handgun was recovered from the scene. >> we did not find a book. >> charlotte police say they're investigation will be transparent and fair. officer brently benson has been placed on administrative leave pending the findings of the investigation. don champion, for cbs-3, "eyewitness news". in oklahoma, the attorney of a tulsa police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black man says the officer felt threatened, and thought the man was armed. parent -- terrence crutcher died after officers responded to report of a stalled vehicle. tulsa authorities have said they did not find a gun on his body or in his car. his death is under investigation. in other news, new york and new jersey bombing suspect ahmad khan rahami faces new federal charges this noon, that include the use of a weapon of mass destruction.

we're also learning more about his wife, who is said to be cooperating with authority. correspondent kenneth craig has the details. the bomb that exploded in new york city saturday night was made from easy to find materials button ebay. a new federal complaint shows ahmad khan rahami bought sit trick acid, circuit boards, electric igniters anibal bearings just this summer. rahami now facing at least ten federal charges, including use of a weapon of mass destruction, and bombing a public place. >> in the near future, it is our intention to bring the defendant to federal district court for the southern district of new york, which has jurisdiction over the manhattan neighborhood where over 30 innocent people were wounded and countless others were gravely endangered by his bomb. >> prosecutors say they also found video that shows rahami setting off what appears to be a pipe bomb in his backyard here in elizabeth, new jersey's earlier this month. investigators say it may have been practice for saturday's

as one of the top ten warmest september, potentially, averaging over 5 degrees above average when you take all of the highs and the lows together, or highest temperature so far 95 degrees this month. lowest was 59. precipitation down almost at inch, three quarters of an inch, even though we got the beneficial rain the other day. could use some more, still down few inches on the year. we are jumping from summer to fall. eventually fall does get here. average high 76 degrees, not even close to that today, tomorrow, friday. then we flip the switch. saturday that transition day, getting close to the average. then sunday early next week, we will be dropping below average. that's when it feels like fall. nighttime, going to get pretty chilly. some people excited they can shut the ac off, save couple of bucks on the electric bill, that's good thing. >> mainly temperatures right now, clouds, again, little thickener south jersey, delaware, highs pretty much where we are now in the upper 70s along the coast, warmth all the way to the west, cleveland, 80 degrees, not going away any time soon.

northeast mid-atlantic in this warm air mass, good news is the humidity is dropping little bit. we look at the dew point temperatures, compared to 24 hours ago, 17 degrees cooler in allentown, eight in reading and philadelphia, so that just tells us a drier air mass is billing in. even though it is warm, it is somewhat on the comfortable side. stubborn storm to the south over the car loin as, rain having tough time moving northward. past saulsbury maryland, clouds southern new jersey, delaware, increasing sunshine the further north you g speaking of the shore, again this time of year get good beach days, not so much today, because of clouds, little more sunshine tomorrow. upper 70s, that's comfortable, keep it going into friday. so, decent stretch developing starting tomorrow for the shore. and again, ocean water temperature still comfortable in the low and mid 70s. high pressure locking itself over us. that bridges us back into a dry pattern. so really, no big chances for rain, as this storm stays to the south. so see decent amount of sunshine for thursday, friday, here comes the cold front. it doesn't have a lot of moisture with it, but what it

does have, cooler temperatures, that starts to arrive for the second half of the weekend. today mid 80s, 70s to the south, because of the cloud, tonight, pretty comfortable, ooh in a lot of the suburb low to mid 60s, tomorrow repeat of today. little more sun. mid 80s once again, for the warm spot. here's what happens for the weekends. friday still warm. here comes the front. drivers through saturday, here comes the cold air mass, coming in from canada. this knocks our temperatures down well below average for this time of year. i'm show you in the seven day. today warm, 84 degrees for the afternoon high. tonight quiet, few clouds around, 65 degrees, here we go with the extended forecast. keep it until the mid 80s with sunny skies, as we enter the fall season. the change arrives as we head toward the weekends, then talking about the below average temperatures returning, so the daytime highs on sunday, you know coming down to about 70 degrees. now this bridges us to our weekend watch. this is when we devote part of
