"eyewitness news" reporter trang do has the the story. >> thinking about everything they did right now, like that. >> reporter: chug their lives. wilmington fire fighters lieutenant christopher leach, a 14 year veteran and senior fire fighter jerry fickes a 13 year veteran died fighting a fire on the 1900 block of lake view road just before 3:00.

misty napper and six children were inside the thousands when the fire started. >> it was so smokey. the fire was so smokey. >> we ran out back and we ran in but the smoke was so hot. >> reporter: napper, another adult and all of the children got out, safely but, leach, fickes and two other fire fighters became trapped in the basement when floor collapsed beneath them. >> keep us in our prayers. this is a very traj being day for wilmington fire department to lose two individual, two of our brothers. >> reporter: their sacrifice just too much for napier to bear breaking down in her mother's arms. >> she's praying for her family, you know, it is so hard. it is breaking her heart to know they passed away in her house. >> reporter: signs of morning a city heart broken over loss of the two fire fighters, two fathers, two heroes.

>> our city is in pain. entire fire department, i don't know, just, work with us, stay with us and pray for us. >> it is really sad because they have family that have kid, you know, and they don't have their parents no more, so that is sad. >> reporter: those two fire fighters remained in stable but critical condition, at crozer-chester medical center, two other fire fighters were treated and released from christiana hospital. in wilmington i'm trang do for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". police in the state of the washington have arrested a sus he can in friday's mall shooting that killed five people, authorities took him in custody the his home without incident. brooks silva-braga has the story. >> reporter: police captured suspect in friday night's mass shooting at a washington state mall, investigators say apprehended 20 year-old arjon, early saturday evening in oak harbor about 30 miles from the scene. >> i saw an individual walking, and northbound on the sidewalk, and i instantly

recognized that is personally just viewed on my computer, and i did abrupt u turn hit my lights, pulled my gun and myself and reserved deputy eric rumbaum into custody. >> possible shots fired, unknown number of victims. >> reporter: four women were shot dead in the make up area of macy's and a hand died later. shoppers fled in hidden changing rooms and other stores. >> it wasn't all at ones there was a shot and then another shot the. >> reporter: police say surveillance video shows the alleged shoot's arriving at the mall unarmed and then entering ten minutes later with a hunting style rifle. victims ranged from a teenager to senior citizen. >> the community was suffered a devastating loss, of five treasure members of our community, and they have done nothing more than what we have all done on any given day. >> reporter: fbi helped in the search for the suspect.

brooks silva-braga for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". baltimore police say three gunman opened fire into a crowd shooting eight people including a three-year old girl. all of the victims are expected to survive. it happened last night around 8:30 outside a block of row homes. the suspects got the away. baltimore police commissioner kevin davis says he believes the shooting was an act of retaliation for labor day weekend shooting when they were fatally shot and two women were hurt. charlotte police released video of their deadly even counter with an african-american man that triggered days of sometimes violent protest in the city. hundreds peacefully marched from charlotte street to protest the shooting but as cbs news correspondent kenneth craig tells us the video released by police is raising more questions. >> reporter: dash cam video shows charlotte police officers surrounding a car, yelling drop the gun, and you also hear a woman saying he doesn't have a gun. scott eventually gets out of the suv, hand at his side as he backs away. you continue to hear someone

yell drop the gun, and then shots are fired. from another angle body camera video shows an officer pointing a gun at scott while the four three-year old stand outside his car. police chief kerr putany says scott had a gun in his hand but that cannot be seen on the video. department also released a photograph of the gun found at the scene and said test reruled scott's dna and fingerprints on the weapon. police chief says officers were at the scene to arrest someone else but got involved with scott after they noticed him with marijuana and a gun. >> what we are releasing are the objective facts. >> don't shoot him. don't shoot him. he has in weapon. >> reporter: scott's wife insists her husband did not have a gun. family members say they were pleased that the footage was finally released but they are not satisfied. >> we are left with far more questions then we have answers. how was it possible that this

incident resulted in a loss of life? >> reporter: hundreds of protesters peacefully demonstrated for a fifth day saturday, a city wide curfew remains in effect. kenneth craig for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". campaign 2016, hillary clinton and donald trump prepare for monday's first presidential debate, clinton picks up a big endorsement, new york times editorial board threw its support behind the nominee. the newspaper says clinton's experience as secretary of state makes her better qualified to shape u.s. foreign policy then trump. republican nominee campaigned in virginia and he is threatening to bring jennifer flowers to monday's debate. bill clinton admitted having a sexual relationship with flowers decade ago. trump's taunt is in response to nba owner mark cuban's plan to sit in the front row of the debate at invitation of the clinton campaign. cuban has been a vocal critic of donald trump. clinton and trump will meet tomorrow night at hofstra university. it starts at 9:00 right here

without eating. and, health reporter stephanie stahl has surprising results. >> reporter: see them every where wearable technology, fitness trackers that count steps and others that calculate calories and more. most of the gadgets are designed to help people lose weight. >> to our surprise, that wasn't what we found report. >> reporter: new study tracked 471 overweight young adult from 2010 through 202, they received counseling on diet and exercise and six months in the study half used a wearable device to help track physical activity the and diet. the group without the wearable technology lost more weight then group who used the devices, an average of 5.3 more. >> they might give people somewhat of a false sense of security that they don't see attention to the the key behaviors that they otherwise might pay attention to. relying on the device as a technology that it be too much and that may be why we saw less wait the wait looks in that group. >> reporter: although wearable technology has improved and change since the study

outside the firehouse with the the story, cherri, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, rahel. it is a sad reality as community is still in mourning, the day after two veteran fire fighters lost their lives. and here behind me, ladder two, station six, it is a home of 41 year-old christopher leach, 51 year-old jerry fickes, and he is a squad four, both veteran fire fighters lost their lives. now take a look at the video of the aftermath a of that early saturday morning fire that began inside a candy park row home on lakeview road. fire officials say that is where lieutenant leach and senior fire fighter fickes a 13 year veteran for the through smoke and flames when the first floor weakened and collapsed into the basement leaving them trapped. both men died leaving behind children and families. four other fire fighters were injured, two were in critical but stable condition, at crozer medical center as of

youngest son of the former governor ruth and minner has been killed in the crash. five five-year old gary ingram was driving a tow truck that ran off the road and hit a group of trees. it happened yesterday on bay road near million for. neither alcohol or drugs appear to be a factor. philadelphia police officer jesse hartnett was guest of honor at an event honoring veterans at cherry hill. cherry hill police association hosted first pasta dinner for veterans. dozens of vets gathered at american legion post 372. hartnett is a coast gar veteran was wounded the job in january. in washington d.c. saturday history is made, as the national museum of african hearn history and kill tour opened up its doors on the national mall. cbs's marley hall was there. >> reporter: with the ringing of the 130 year-old freedom bell, president obama officially dedicated the national museum of african-american history and culture, before a crowd of thousands on the national mall. >> it is an act of patriotism
