5:16 pm
the showers have moved off the coast, and the clouds are still in place, and there in ocean city. this is in kutztown and it is beautiful. not a cloud in the skies. deep blue sky, in fact, 71 degrees right now looking fantastic. so really all depend where you are. there that is front. it has moved off shore and you can see cloud still hanging on down the shore but further north and west and even here in philadelphia we were battling with the cloud cover around noon time and now blue skies has broken out and it looks beautiful. here's our troublemaker, right here, you can see that counterclockwise swirl, showers, cloud over the great lakes, what we're seeing with this is it will dive on south and really dictate our entire weather pattern, through the end of the week. the it is what we call a closed low what happens whene get a closed low you get an area of low pressure that cuts off from the main jet stream flow. jet stream is an area of strong wind in the upper at whose fear generally speaking this time of the career jet stream is off to the north. this low though, it is not connected to the jet stream which means it has nothing to get it out of here. very slow moving, they tend to
5:17 pm
me ander and sit over, one dedicated area, for several days at a time producing clouds, showers, and unsettled weather and that is what we will be seeing through the even of the week. the in the near term, overnight looks good, tomorrow we will wake up to lots of sunshine blue skies looking beautiful but tomorrow afternoon the cloud will start to roll back in. tomorrow, it is not a wash out h fact we may stay dry for much of the day. by eight or 9:00 p.m. a couple of showers move back in and then overnight we will start to see heavier showers, and thursday, it looks like a cloudy, wet day with scattered showers and even some steady rain, especially in our far western suburbs. forecast rain amounts, again we need rain, we have just a little bit this morning just over a tenth of an this much, you can see steady rain right through end of the week and into the weekend, mainly off to the southwest, and here in our western suburbs, pennsylvania, down toward d.c., those are areas that can see inch and a half to 2 inches of rain. this shifts just a lit built to the east we could end up getting a whole lot more rain here in fail and that is
5:18 pm
something we have to plan for. especially thursday, and into friday. overnight tonight, just a few patchy clouds. just a cool night. thanks to the lack of cloud cover, last night was warmer with more clouds in place, and tonight, not so bad. tomorrow we will see sunshine early, showers by evening, at 76 degrees. you're witness weather three day forecast though not seeing a lot of sun. once that sun goes a waste tomorrow afternoon we will see some changes, moving in the area, and as some showers pick up on thursday, showers looks heaviest on thursday and steady as well, friday, clouds, showers, again, i've got some news for the weekend coming up in our weekend watch but we have not had much rain lately, conditions are pretty dry right now. will that affect our fall foliage this year. meteorologist justin drabick has the answer. >> with the green leaves on area trees will transform in it or range, red and browns of autumn. our summer was hot and dry,
5:19 pm
and, good amount of rain soon it could impact the fall colors. every fall we are treated to mother nature's brilliant display but this year could be less colorful because it has been so dry, in fact, parts of the area are under a drought watch. and and that is affect. >> theresa cross the region will start to turn and right now heather is crucial for the fall color. >> more rain is on the way and into the weekend. and that could put a dent in the deficit. the timing could be important for leave peepers but it is not just about the rain. the bob's from the more is arboretum says the recipe for perfect fall colors is also a perfect fall day. >> weather impacts the intensity of the colors, sometimes, to get the brighter red, brighter orange, and if you have, nice blue skies, and blue days and school, crisp, pull your sweater on nights. that gives you, great fall color. >> and you may have heard that
5:20 pm
that fall foliage is running behind schedule this year. that is just a myth. the length of the day and night is responsible for turning the leaves. that toss than the change from year to year. average peak in the philadelphia area is late october, so start planning your getaway right now. >> there is never a bad fall, never a bad time to get out with your kid, get out with your friend and then look at what is going on, and enjoy it. >> some of the best places to view foliage are morris and tyler arboretums, wissohickon and washington state park, valley forge and belmont plateau in fair mount park or anywhere you can see hill side. from the einstein health care science center i'm meteorologist justin drabick. >> still ahead on "eyewitness news" another long time celebrity couple is calling it quits. looking for something to do this weekend. how about a hundred things to do in philly before you die. pennsylvania the path gallon has a great resource for you, don. paying tribute to an all time great, loss of arnold

it doesn't look like a total wash out as of right now but it does have a chance to be a total wash out because when we're dealing with one of these upper lows it is unpredictable where showers and heavier rain will form. as of right now it looks like the heaviest rain will stay off to the west but we have to keep an eye especially on thursday, and, then right now though things look beautiful. if you want to see fall sunshine get outside this evening. it is a beautiful evening. here's bethlehem with that deep blue sky, and it looks fantastic. we're heading toward sunset but still looking blue, out there, in northampton county, and we're starting to see a few of those fall colors, begin to change, and we will head into october, that is when we will start to sees first in the poconos, and then down in the lehigh valley and then eventually by late october, that is when foliage peaks for us here in philadelphia. lets take another look at one of the spots on our live neighborhood network camera, thinks at the junior/senior school in bernville. up toward the poconos where again we have got blue skies and things looking very nice, this afternoon, it is 72 degrees right there right now. contrast that with the shore, beach patrol headquarters in margate where beach is pretty

empty and the sides are looking overcast thanks to the same front that came through our area last night. it brought .12 inches to philadelphia now it has started to clear coast but you can see clouds just now, moving out of the shore points. it has been on balance, pretty cloudy day for our south and earn zones. zooming out you can see showers moving away, we're in a little bit of the break but here is that low, we were talking about yesterday, that counterclockwise circulation and what this is going to do is meander down just off to the west and pretty much just sit and kind of bounce around a little bit for a couple of days. it is going to be cut off from the main jet stream so it has in where to go whiz means it is like that unwanted house guest that over stays its welcome. we need rain but we don't need gloom and doom for days upon days and it looks like into the week end that slow moving low will continue to bring rain chances on and off, even right through saturday. checking in with your eyewitness weather watchers, they are enjoying a beautiful afternoon outside with lots of sunshine and temperatures pretty seasonal, in the 70's.

we're looking at 74 degrees as we check with steve schwartz. he is in bensalem. he has a lot of sun and he says comfortable dew point, 54, great least coverry after the rain, and boy it was beautiful. i went out for a run this morning in the upper 60's. a few clouds, nice breeze and now sun shining, cross most of the area. margot is in buena vista township. as you can see a few more clouds there and we are seeing more cloud as we head toward the coast. so gary is showing those skies, clearing here, blue skies, trying to work its way in for most of the us here the blue sky has won the battle and also showing this beautiful image of his bum many bees gathering late season nectar. is there the bum many bee what a great the shot that is. hopefully didn't get stung trying to get that shot. take a look at what we can expect rain wise over the next several days. this evening is beautiful. tomorrow is kind of an upside version of today, it starts out, beautiful, sunshine in the morning but then if you are at work late tomorrow evening, grab an umbrella leaving the house. rain could arrive especially after night fall tomorrow evening. thursday looks like it may be the most unsettled day we will

have this week, and then showers at times and even perhaps some steady rain, and then friday into saturday remaining unsettled, with the chance for showers and storms. we have got something to watch in the tropics as well. thinks an invest that has 90 percent chance of development in the next five days, likely will be idea regulars and then possibly matthew. what i want to watch the model with this system. when does saturday this takes it due west in the caribbean sea. watch what the models do, they take this as a sharp turn to the north and that is what we have to keep an eye on. if this heads north and bohamas or florida it could impact us or impact atlantic seaboard. it wouldn't be another week and a half, we still have time we will keep you posted on. that for now not the a concern for us especially. overnight a few clouds, still cool, 58 degrees, tomorrow starts with sun and showers could role in after night fall. 76 degrees. your forecast looks glummy here in the end of the week. steady showers thursday, saturday, clouds maybe some
