hoboken train station sits directly across the hud somebody river from new york city. rail service has been suspended into and out of hoboken station. authorities say train number 1614 left spring valley new york just before 7:30 this morning. now, that's in rock lands county just north of the new jersey border. a little more than an hour late their train plowed through a platform and into a reception area when it reached the ends of the line. several eyewitnesses have reported that the train never slowed down as it entered the terminal. >> when we felt the train slamming or sliding into the station we weren't necessarily -- we just wanted to make sure everyone would could help was standing on their feet or would co-could get them out of harms way. the first car, second car, kind of like jumped on, jumped a little bit on to the, like where we were standing, so it kind of like crushed that little center where people were, where it would be normally standing, and through them, into where we were. >> let's get the latest from

the scene in north jersey. >> jamie yuccas has more. >> witnesses say the commuter train slammed into wall full force into the train station in hoboken, new jersey, at least 100 people were injured. the platform was packed with people wait to go commute into new york city. on the left side, was sitting. >> it was like a big crash, and then everything from the feeling fell. >> officials say the station's roof partially chanced on top of the train, and debris littered the reception area. cbs evening news executive producer steve cap as was at the scene. >> there are scores people here, bloodied shirts, head injuries, i saw one person with what appear to be broken leg. >> rescue crews climbed clue crumbled pain cars to reach

passengers and dangling wires. injured passengers were taken to parking lot that turned into triage area. federal investigators, will try to figure out what happened here, they'll look at various factors including condition of the tracks and the speed of the train. >> it was a warning, like everybody just stunned. >> new jersey transit service has been suspended at the hoboken station indefinately. jamie yuccas, cbs news, hoboken, new jersey. >> and our meisha johnson here now with how that train crash could impact travel today. what do we know right now? >> jim, right now the most up-to-date information that we have is take a look at this, rail service remains suspended in hoboken, buses in service but expect delays due to traffic and the cross honoring going on, those in our area, trenton, hamilton stations, those are un affected. that is the bright light in this situation. however, the hoboken areas that are affected right now, eighth street to hoboken service terminated at newport, to hoboken terminated at second street, but the un affected areas service between

second and newport, west side avenue to tinel, those are un affected right now. local roads around the station, however, those are closed right now, also, take a look at this, new jersey bus private carriers, new york waterway cross-honoring new jersey transit, this is going to help, but it is also going to hinder in the way that it will be very, very busy, especially, on those buses. so those of you thinking about taking the buses check your schedules on line. remember it is going to definitely be over crowded at this point. jim, brooke, back over to you. >> thank you so much, meisha. >> our area has had two deadly train accidents in the recent past. >> it was may 12th, 2015 when amtrak northeast regional train from washington dc to new york derailed and crashed in port richmond. you may recall eight people were killed and more than 200 people were hurt. investigators later blamed the crash on the engineer's loss of what they called situation al awareness. as a result, amtrak installed inch wad facing cameras in the engineer's path and a computerized speed limiting

system. and in april of this year southbound amtrak train 89 struck a back hoe on the tracks in chester, killing two track workers and derailing the locomotive. forty-one people on board the train were taken to hospitals. investigators determined the train was going slower than the maximum authorized speed, but a preliminary ntsb report said the track should have been closed to train traffic. now, we are following all of the developments related to the hoboken train crash. more coming in throughout the newscast, and more live coverage starting on "eyewitness news" at 5:00. you can always get the latest any time on line at cbsphilly.com. shake up at the philadelphia parking authority following the resignation of executive director vincent fennerty. he quit yesterday, related to sexual harrassment incident under his watch. today board members met to discuss plans to fill his position. "eyewitness news" reporter joe holden live in center city with the latest developments. joe? >> brooke, good afternoon, vince fennerty expected to be

fired this morning at a board meeting and said he submitted his letter of resignation yesterday afternoon from his executive director position here at the parking authority. and as you might expect, there are a lot of questions still hanging over this agency. let's go ahead, take you inside and upstairs. the board took no official action on fennerty this morning except to read a statement condemning two incident of sexual harrassment, that cost fennerty his job. now, cbs-3 has exclusive video of the last day fennerty was here at the parking authority. you may recall, he endured my questions about the scandal, that is now eclipse dollars the parking authority, raising questions about how leaders here handle sexual harrassment complaints. fennerty admitted to sexually harassing a woman last year. the board was positioned to stand behind fennerty, until a ten year old harrassment complaint surfaced. officials here acknowledged reports, they were set to offer that victim a $150,000 settlement in 2006, but she declined it. the board chairman would not

take our questions but in the prepared statement said the conduct uncovered is unacceptable in any workplace. by the way, two people who were appointed to fill fennerty's role in interim capacity, spokesman said they both were here in the 06 at the time of the first reported complaint made against fennerty. he said co-not comment if either person new about fennerty's actions. >> ten years ago, when this settlement was in the works, who here new about that? who authorized that agreement? >> i can't really discuss that again because of the confidentiality of these employee matters and personnel matters, i can't really discuss that. >> reporter: and records show that fennerty still stands to collect his six-figure pension now. that is the matter the ppa says is between the pension board and fennerty. so why didn't the board just outright fire him and allow him to resign? more on that starting at 5:00. live in center city, joe

holden, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thanks, joe for the update. meanwhile in other news, two wilmington firefighters on the road to recovery. they were badly hurt in a fire that killed two of their colleagues. this is a new photo of firefighter brad speakman, crozer burn center, he is walking around the hospital. firefighter artist hope is also recovering at crozer. saturday's fire tore through a wilmington row home. lieutenant christopher leach and senior firefighter jar i were killed after a floor collapsed. public just willing hemmed for senior firefighter today, and in friday, in hokessing, private service will follow at grace lutheran church. services for lieutenant christopher leach are tomorrow. >> drenching overnight rains creating flooding concerns in part of the area this noon. and more rain is on the way. meteorologist, lauren casey, is in cbs-3 weather center with the latest on the wet weather. lauren? >> thanks, brooke. yes, significant rainfall totals already across parts of the area, and the rain is not nearly done with us yet, in

scene in hoboken. greg? >> reporter: that's right, guys. live here in hoboken, new jersey just across the river from new york city. i want to show you the terminal right here. this is the hoboken terminal right now, and you can see, just these massive police presence, we pan over to the left right now, if you don't mind, you can see one of these helicopters landing. this is sort of a triage area right here. that's where some of the victims that were injured in this crash this morning are being transported. we have media from all across the region of course, new york city market, a loft new york city media here, as well. but also very large police presence, as they try to figure out exactly what happened here this morning, around 8:45. that's when train 1614 crashed into the terminal itself. partial building collapse here, the roof of the hoboken terminal collapsing, as well. you are looking at some video, some pictures principal signed you can see the destruction, as you can imagine, all trains, new jersey transit

trains, leading into the city, leading into this hoboken terminal has been suspended indefinately. as the ntsb, and of course, the new york city police, new jersey police department investigate what exactly happened this morning. as we have been reporting, we can confirm one person has been killed, at least 100 others injured, but fortunately, we have some new information from the jersey city medical center. they're telling us that about 9:00 to 11 people are in the emergency room, and 40 walk in's, calling those the wounded walking. some not too serious of injuries. we want to let you hear from some of the folks that were on this train who actually witnessed the crash. take a listen as to what they had to say. >> the words i would use is like oh, my god. i am a minister. that's all i can think of, oh, my god really. what happens, when it happened, it was so shocking, people just ran and just stared at first, like you don't believe that happened.

>> all the cindy hear this really loud bang, it sounded like nails on a chalk board, you know what i mean, and then just this followed by the deafening silence, then all the sudden i hear all of these screams coming and terror like sleeks and everything. and then people just start running toward me, up the stairs, from all of the platforms just pouring in. >> reporter: back here live, once again, you can see just the incredible emergency response here in front of the hoboken terminal. this is a major terminal into new york city. so of course this is causing major delays throughout the region for those coming into and away from new york city. once again here in hoboken. there is a large media staging ground, just few feet from us, where officials are going to update us throughout the afternoon exactly what happened. as the ntsb is beginning their investigation, into this crash, that once again, killed at least one person, and injured more than 100. we will have live updates throughout the evening, but for now, i'm live here in hoboken, new jersey, greg

argos, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thank you, greg. authorities are still trying to figure out what prompted a knife attack on five people in cobbs creek, one of the victims is the suspect's own son. >> our anita oh, live at children's hospital where two young victims are clinging to life. anita? >> reporter: well, brooke, jim, investigators are trying to piece together exactly what happened last night, which led that man to attack one every his own children and his children's friend. they're now recovering here at the children's hospital of philadelphia. >> violent rampage, did not ends well. we're hoping at least the young kids will survive. >> philadelphia police say officers shot and killed a man, after he stabbed his eight year old son, and a friends of the boy around 7:00 wednesday night. both children remain in critical condition, at the children's hospital of philadelphia. >> the eight year old has his throat cut, got multiple stab

wounds to his chest. thirteen year old multiple stand wounds to the chest. >> it is unclear what motivated the attack 6200 block of hazel avenue. but after assaulting his 15 year old daughter, then stabbing the two boys, police say, the man ran off to a home about half mile away, on the 700 block of cobbs creek parkway. >> and under the presence of something want to go eat, immediately grabs a knife, and actually slices the seven year old. >> police say the suspect slashed the elderly woman in the face, and assault add 42 year old woman at the home who tried to intervene. when the suspect tried to leave the home as many as nine officers fired at him. >> he's got his hands in his pocket, they tell him several times to take his hand out. he abruptly takes his hand out. and they fire multiple times striking him. >> police say this man did have a criminal history. his 15 year old daughter told authorities that he may have been high on drugs at the

of rainfall, really just over the last 24 hours, that rain is returning, after a little bit after lull in the precipitation, still definitely socked in with the cloud cover, but rain moving in, to the jersey shore, parts of delaware, once again, sussex county seeing more rain moving on in. this rain shield is continuing to move northbound, spreading back into south jersey and eventually up toward the i95 corridor. with the falling rain, the clouds in place, foggy conditions, temperatures really being held back generally, to 60 to 65 degrees, right now, we only top off at 68 in philadelphia. windy conditions, dreary, with continual showers, and overnight tonight, periods of rain continue, heavy at times, with gusty winds, low temperature falling back to 62 degrees. and woe already have had some significant wind gusts, tuckerton, 48 miles per hour in ocean county, new jersey, lewes, picking up 45-mile per hour winds gust, same in atlantic city. winds gusting up to 20 to 30 to 35 miles per hour, making those umbrellas not that useful. definitely rain slicker day.

we're having the strong east to southeasterly winds flow on shore flow, it will give us that coastal flooding concern. and we have coastal flood warning in effect for coastal new jersey, counties, and the delaware beaches. kicks in at 6:00 this evening, and runs until 1:00 a.m., overnight tonight. we could see some moderate coastal flooding, especially, at high tide times, along ocean front, 7:00 to 9:00 this evening, back bays up to three hours later. we could see some flooding kind of creep its way over the roadways. so not great evening to be out on the roads. tracking matthew, system, we have to watch, 70-mile per hour tropical storm, likely to become hurricane, later today or tonight, you can see this bend as it moves over cuba. eventually, it could come close to the u.s. coastline, so we have to keep an eye on that, but closer to home, future weather showing us as we head into the next couple of days, rain just continues to flow in, really from south to north, across the region, even as we head into saturday morning. still, some spotty showers around, and in your seven day
