police cruisers circled and some parents are praying for a calm day of classes. >> the principal called me last night, and he left me a message that, um, it's going to be threat here. so i didn't -- he didn't say exactly what it was. but then i saw it on social media. >> reporter: monique bryant saw these so-called scary clowns gets on social media they're now trending nationwide. post after post of fearsome clown images and threats of violence to local public and private schools. bryant's daughter wanted to stay home though others students perceived these posts as pranks. >> just scene the threats on social media. >> yes. >> i've seen the threats. >> and you don't think that they're a big deal? >> no i think they're just trying to get -- scare people. >> reporter: from neumann-goretti to roman catholic to jw halihan the archdiocese and police are taking extra steps to keep students safe. at least three arch diocesan schools were named and self philadelphia city schools were too. they resumed class wednesday after observing the jewish new

year and over the weekend the school district and police announced a joint effort with homeland security to track down the source of these threats. >> we think what's going on. we're partnering with police department and we'll be ready for wednesday morning and after that. >> reporter: i'm justin finch cbs3 "eyewitness news". thanks a lot justin. people in the carribbean are facing intense encounter with hurricane matthew. category four storm could bring catastrophic damage. >> streets are flooding in jamaica were some areas expecting more than 3 feet of rape. mark strathman has the latest from kingston, jamaica. >> reporter: relentless downpours triggered floods. as hurricane matthew hit jamaica on sunday. in kingston rushing water covered streets and stranded cars. drivers braced knee deep water pushing vehicles down the road. off the western coast of the island near the city of ma grill a waterspout was spotted over the ocean ahead of the storm.

officials issued an evacuation order throughout the island. >> jamaica will be the 90% band of the storm. >> reporter: in haiti the slow-moving storm is expected to dump between 15 to 25-inches of rain. the government has opened roughly 1300 emergency shelters that can hold up to 340,000 people. matthew will make its way toward cuba with hurricane conditions early tomorrow. the us is already evacuated about 700 family members from the u.s. naval base in guantonimo bay. the state department has told non-essential personnel here in jamaica as well in haiti and bahamas to evacuate if they can. if not hunker down. too early to say what the impact will be on the united states. those on the east coast could feel it by the end of the week. mark straws man, cbs news. >> for the latest on the track

and first look at our forecast let's head over to katie in the weather sent. >> jim, latest on this storm system is that frankly we don't have any an exact answer for you twos whether this will have direct impact on our area. we do know as we her in the package this is making a bee line off to the north. so let me take you on out there start things off by showing you the satellite picture of this storm system. this is pretty intense cat four system guys with max sustained wind speeds at 140 miles an hour. northward movement at only 6 miles an hour. so eighths very slow mover. but take look where the track goes from here. now, it does appear as though there may be a little bit of a bend in that track over the course of time. but even if it were to actually hug the coast and not actually strike land you're still dealing with category two system potentially coming very close to the immediate coastline. as it pertains to our area the earliest we would likely see any impacts at least at this point with what we know when it come to the guidance we might start to see some impacts as early as saturday. but again there's no guarantee that this isn't going to just

make a right hand turn and not really mess with us at all. so it's something that bears monitoring we'll certainly do that for you. but in the meantime it's something that rather than a red nag has nice hot pink flag. looking outside at the live neighborhood network the sun actually came out. there's definitely cloud cover at beach patrol head quarter what is had been very gloomy start to the day looks like beautiful fall afternoon. it's getting better. and frankly we deserve some sunshine after the nonsense with all of those dreary conditions in the last couple of days from one pesky storm. at leave that's out of here. nice afternoon in most of these spots currently at 70 degrees at philly international. very modest breeze in atlantic city at 69 degrees. as we go through the rest of the day here we do expect that any clouds that may still be out there are going to continue to break for at least some sunshine. so more of a mixture of sun, some clouds. i don't want these icons that have shower to scare you off. i think if anything it's isolated in nature but i have to allow for a structure shower

since we still do have the remnants of some instability from the storm that brought us all of that dreary weather. now there is another hiccup in the dreary department that comes along midweek. we'll talk more about that in my full forecast later in the show and how a little bit mr. dough tale for you as it pertains to matthew and what might might mean for our forecast down the road. brooke, back over to you. >> thanks katie. republican presidential nominee donald trump is not talking about his taxes so far today. he chose instead to address national security issues at an event this morning. as mark albert reports from the white house the tax issue is not going away. >> reporter: donald trump spoke out about hillary clinton's e-mail scandal at a morning speech on cyber securi security. he said democratic nominee is unfit for the presidency. >> hillary clinton is only experience in cyber security involves her criminal scheme to violate federal law, engineering a massive coverup and putting the entire nation in harm's way. >> reporter: a breach in the

as if the systemic racism paying our country doesn't exist. >> reporter: clinton speaks at a voter registration rally this afternoon. mark albert for cbs3 "eyewitness news". there are only 35 days left until election day. democratic nominee hillary clinton is scheduled to be in the philadelphia area and harrisburg tomorrow. the vice-presidential nominees face off in their only debate tomorrow night. in other news this noon, investigators are holding out hope that a second data recorder is functioning after the deadly train crash in hoboken last week. the ntsb found the first recorder but it's not working. investigators believe the second recorder is under a collapsed section of the train station's roof. investigators say the train's engineer has no memory of that crash. septa says it's regional rails are back to normal service. septa pulled 120 silver liner five rail cars off the tracks in july because of suspension issues. but they returned 50 repaired cars to service today with

welcome back. people living in southern california are on high alert right now for the increased possibility of a major earthquake. >> the governor' office of emergency services issued the warning after a series of small quakes near the san andreas fault. earthquakes along that fault happen every 300 years. the alert lasts through tomorr tomorrow. as we reported earlier in the newscast parts of the carribbean are bracing for hurricane ma-ma that was. forecasters expect it to strike jamaican southern coast later today. heavy rains are already hitting the island. haiti and eastern cuba are also under hurricane warnings. the national weather service says matthew is the strongest

hur cape in the atlantic since 2007. >> wow. >> pack something wind. >> talking about matthew all d day. >> absolutely unfortunate 80 the potential it might be an issue for us. you want to just stay with us. continue to check back with us because a lot of times this far out in the forecast in fact almost all the time you'll see some changes and we do need to fine tune things as we get ever closer we'll little bit more of a guarantee as to how it actually will impact our region but, yeah, mu he knowed it. this is the strongest storm that we've seen in the atlantic basin since 2007. so you're going on a decade here where you haven't seen something of this strength and frankly the areas that it's going hit don't necessarily see this kind of activity all that often. let's go ahead and start things off by getting out to statistical information here again category five was what matthew was at its peak. the first time we've seen a cat five in the atlantic in nine years. now it is going to be impacting jamaica, haiti and cuba today in tomorrow. and we're going to show that you satellite picture in another second here but this is headline

that really should be grabbing you. we could end up it 12-foot storm surge out of this. 12 feet of a wall of water just coming at the shore line. that is deadly when it comes to the danger you're facing here. so understandably they're trying to evacuate these people at least move them to higher ground. 40-inches potentially of rain. several feet worth in addition to the hundred plus miles per hour winds with a very expansion seive storm system. it's very large obviously could encompass the entire country of jamaica here basically going to be taking that track though through the straight between hispaniola and jamaica and then pretty much cross over eastern cuba before hitting the palmas and polly the us coastline. the closer it gets to the close line the more dangerous the ill packs. it appears at least the southern eastern united states will see impact out of this storm and bears monitoring how it will affect us and part of the reason for that is a, we need some ti time. but also the upper level flow will play very big role in this. take look. as the storm rolls north, this

next trough we're talking later this week so thursday into the weekend, is going to start to dig in. depending on how the timing ends up, do they catch up to each other? does one move out first then the other moves out? that's what's going to really play a role in determining where this storm actually hits. if we're lucky the trough comes in quickly enough it will help steer the storm back out to sea. however, it is still a decent possibility that we end up at least with some pretty heavy rain and certainly some wind out of it. in the meantime as we look at storm scan at the local level at least the clouds broke. we finally got sunshine it's been long enough and the storm system that was responsible for the days on end worth of very dreary conditions that's finally starting to fizzle away here. so at least that's moving out. the problem is, high pressure is trying to build in. but even though it's going to do so easily there's actually going to be back door front that comes in. so later on today there may still be a stray leftover shower from this first system before it fizzles completely and anyone is

fair game. no umbrella required here. tomorrow more on shore flow starts up we'll start to see more clouds building in, chance for some drizzle, chance for few scattered showers, not a washout by any stretch but not the prettiest day we've seen with that said you'll see that change in the wind direction as you look forward in future wind speeds here. take look not so much as the numbers but the wind direction that's critical when you start to see that end shore flow kicking in it allows more of the clouds and moisture in other words from the atmosphere from the atlantic especially to start moving on shore. now, i'm getting the wrap here i want to jump to the seven day let's take a look where we end up later in the forecast here. tomorrow again somewhat dreary. come wednesday the sun will shine all be a little on the cool side for the standards. thursday looks good. friday not bad either you see the clouds start to rebuild. saturday rain, question mark. that's what we're looking ahead to here. stick with us. the there will be some changes updates and we'll let you know. >> looking forward to the question mark. >> you got it. >> we'll be right back. stay with us. >> i'm sorry. i thought we were going on to
