11:18 pm
it's bearing down on haiti right now. just a devastating situation for haiti and now matthew has shifted west, closer to the east coast of the uts. what remains in question is it looks like it's going to have more significant can't impacts for portions of florida, south carolina and north carolina, but there's some disagreement on the models what it does once it moves past the carolinas. we're about 5 to 6 days out from any potential impact so a lot can still change. let's start with the near term and we'll talk about the weather for the next couple of days. matthew will start with a look outside where it is cloudy and foggy in center city. can't really see the skyline there. but a pretty calm night. 61 degrees there now. storm scan 3 shows just a couple of showers over new england. the rest of the northeast is quiet but what we've got going on is a back-door cold front. temps right now are on the cool side as well, we're in the 50s
11:19 pm
in most spots. still hanging on to 64 here in the city. highs today to the low to mid 70s to the north and upper 70s to the south but as that cold front swings through tomorrow, it will bring a drop in temperatures. highs barely hitting 70 in our area. not a whole lot with this front, maybe a couple of passing showers through the day tomorrow, heading into wednesday we'll see a mix of clouds and sun as high pressure builds overhead and then we have to watch this front. this is going to be a key player on field. already a little moisture from matthew showing up here that streams north from florida and the carolinas. what we have to watch is this advancing trough and this is going to be the key. take a look at 7-day forecast first and then we'll get into the stats on matthew. just a passing shower tomorrow, clouds and some sun for your wednesday with temperatures in the upper 60s. quiet thursday and friday and the time to watch for potential
11:20 pm
impacts from that system would be late saturday especially sunday. here's what we're looking at. here's the steering pattern. there's that front i mentioned. what happens here, there's matthew off the coast. that front stays kind of flat and doesn't dig to the south. notice how it steers matthew offshore and away from our area. imagine if 24 front dug down a little further. that would pull matthew closer to the coast and it would hug the coast closer to the weekend. and that's still a possibility. heavy rainfall on the left side of the system along the front, strong winds and coastal flooding. the european model stays offshore to the south and east and it has minimal impacts on our area. this is after it impacts the carolinas. there's a lot of agreement until that point, the divergence is what happens then and that's something we may not know until later this week. it's dependent on the interaction with the front.
11:21 pm
50% chance we do get heavy rain either directly or indirectly from that system. a 50% chance that it stays off shower. right now it's kind of a toss-up. we have to keep a close eye on this storm. >> thavrnltion it will be interesting. don bell is up next with sports. >> the eagles welcome back two starters.
