bohamas island and just about even with miami, so this storm is coming a shore further north, south florida, not going to get the brunt of the storm but northern, central, central coast here this is where that storm will produce greatest impact. here's the latest stats and track on matthew, this just came out a few moments ago and keeps matthew a very strong storm, with sustain wind of 140 miles an hour, it is still a category four, central pressure down to 938 millibars moving north and west at 13 miles an hour. trajectory of the storm brings it north of the south florida cities that is slightly better news for miami and palm beach but as we head to the north end and move into tonight and tomorrow morning this may come on shore as a category four or possibly strong category three storm near space coast and then, just trap up the coast of florida, georgia, south carolina right through day tomorrow before making that loop, it will weaken as it does so. some latest models have brought this this all the waste back around but it will weaken so if it does impact florida a second time it will

on his condition. and a man was hit by a car, and killed while crossing kelly drive, philadelphia police say that the unidentified man, believed to be in his late 60's or early 70's, was hit around 9:45 this morning. that accident temporarily shut down kelly drive in both directions, and he was taken to hahnemann university hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. that accident remains under investigation. police have released surveillance video of the woman they say stole cash from a locker at einstein hospital. this surveillance video comes from a cell phone tech store where police say that woman used the victim's credit card. they say that the woman broke into an einstein employee's locker tuesday afternoon, took cash, and credit cards, and if you recognize that suspect, call the police. police are also, searching for a gunman who robbed a baron the 2300 block of fairmount avenue. that man entered the bar at 2:30 in the morning, pointed a gun and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. he then ran away on olive

there heated the call to evacuate and get out before this category four hurricane hits, we want to check with cbs reporter don champion live in daytona beach florida where anxiety is growing that storm will move closer, don. >> reporter: good evening, kate and in just a few hours parts of the southern florida will begin to experience hurricane conditions. here to the north where i'm standing, we have already been going through brief but very, heavy downpours and as you can see win is picking up at this hour. by now people in this area have been told to be where ever they plan to ride out this monster. whipping wind, and powerful waves, long florida's coastline are a sign of trouble to come. matthew is barreling toward the florida coastline as a category four hurricane, and it could get even stronger. governor rick scott insisted that the storm isn't one to take lightly. >> if you are in an evacuation zone, get out. this is not something you

should take a chance with. >> reporter: the coastal town of port orange seems to be on the fence about riding out the storm, in the house that he built. >> why ride the storm out? >> well, just in case, i at least have an opportunity to try to repair something that may, you know, be able to salvage the home. >> reporter: not far away gary, took his both the both out of the water. he is a retired fire fighter and says residents who stay behind do so at their own risk. >> when they get bad and call 911, they don't leave the firehouse. they do not leave until after. >> reporter: this area where i'm standing is expect to be under water by this time friday when a powerful storm surge and huge waves are expected to inundate the coast. hurricane conditions are even expected inland in orlando where disney is closing its theme parks at least 2500 national guard troops have been called up, they are preparing supplies, and rescue

boats. now, as we brace for matthew it is important to note that this part of the coast, including the area where this storm could make land fall, it has never been hit by a major hurricane before, all ready at this hour more than 3,000 people are taking up shelter in places set up in 60 locations across the state, kate? >> thanks, very much don. stay safe down in daytona peach weal check in with you throughout the rest of the event and as don said this area has not really been hit by a major hurricane in quite sometime, east coast of florida and that may cause a false sense of security for people in that area that think it will not be that bad. they don't hit here. maybe i'll stay and ride it out. this is likely to be that bad. if you haven't gotten out now or you have friend and family i would urge them to do so.ow take a lot storm. weal go out to storm scan three where we have radar data and able to pick up radar as that storm gets closer to the united states. you can see the eye of category four hurricane matthew barreling down on

grand bohamas island, just about to pass over, and free port bohamas. and strongest wind of matthew with 140 miles an hour, right now with possible gusts higher then that. that could bring severe wind damage to grand bohamas island. storm head north to florida, late tomorrow night and tomorrow morning making its closest path earlier tomorrow near jacksonville area here's what you can expect storm surge wise it will be worse, from the space coast up through jacksonville along the coast of georgia and south carolina four to 6 feet of storm surge but we could see isolated areas picking up ten, 11, 12 feet of storm surge that is destructive, and very, very deadly. we have got very heavy rain for this area even further inland, spots like orlando and right into southeastern georgia, charleston south caroline, possibly up to 10 inches of rain along the immediate coast and that goes right through the weekend and impact portions of north

carolina at least heavy rain even though strongest wind will stay off shore. talk likely first was matthew. we have mentioned this areas not used to major hurricane strikes. it will be first one since wilma in 2005, a category three. first category four land falling hurricane fit does make land fall in the u.s. since 2004. first category four plus land fall within 100 miles of the kennedy space center and first hurricane to impact jacksonville area since 1898. that is how rare this track is. coming up in our next half an hour weal look at different tracks of different hurricanes we have had but we have had a few with odd looping tracks like matthew has and weal break them down. future weather for our area does show saturday we have a front from the west. the saturday evening, note that is moisture from matthew gets in our cold front. i personally think this model is too far north witt but i to think as that front comes through, the rainfall rates could be enhanced for a bit especially saturday evening and that means threat for some heavy rain so keep that in

and you should get out. >> full extent of matthew's impact in haiti is beginning to come into focus as well tonight. the hurricane killed 108 people there. many areas of country have been cut off by the storm, and that made getting help to part of the area is difficult. eastern pennsylvania region of the american red cross is gearing up to help in florida and hurricanes aftermath. our joe holden will have more on that tonight on "eyewitness news" at 6:00. authorities believe that they have evidence to suggest that the stabbings in a minnesota mall last month were as a result of the premeditated attack. on september 17th, he dressed as a security guard and stabbed ten people before being shot and culled by an off-duty police officer. officials say in the month leading up to that adan developed a new interest in islam. lost interest is in his favorite activities and went from being an excellent students to failing in college. >> these behaviors individually may not be significant, however totality

a young chef from chester is riding high after winning a reality show cooking competition. >> as reporter chere greg from our sister station kyw news radio tells us she was invited to spend the day on a special ship. >> reporter: u.s.s. john murtha is a formidable vessel designed to transport military vehicles but inside... 12 year-old chef isaac, made herself, right at home. >> i like cooking with this grill. >> reporter: recent champion of the chopped junior, she discovered her love of cooking while in the hospital. diagnosed with krones disease at eight years old she began watching cooking shows. doctors and nurses encouraged her to cook and she loved it.

shot for you looking live from the camden side of things over towards ben franklin bridge and city sky line in the background. what a gorgeous sunset is beginning, already, to keep getting earlier. it is getting earlier, every day but beautiful shot, it looks like a picture post card of the philadelphia area and beautiful thursday evening but here's something decidedly less beautiful. this is hurricane matthew. look at this eye wall structure and reds, yellows, really, in there as it moves into portions of grand bohamas, right around freeport. help you see eye wall making land tall you can expect high of 140, 150 miles april hour and also a tornado threat in the north east part. you get spin up short lived tornadoes that could impact bohamas. eye will continue to move north and head toward north and central florida coast as we go through the overnight hours and into tomorrow morning. try to pull up a live neighborhood network cameras down in florida.

this is pine crest prep try school in boca raton. you can see how overcast it the is. trees blowing in the breeze. 77 degrees there right now, looking a whole lot different in florida and it does here in the philadelphia area this evening. i will pull up more photos and cameras from florida as we move through the next couple of days. lets talk about unusual hurricane path. matthew is not only one making a loop, loop this is ivan from 2004. ivan made land fall in the west coast of the florida, panhandle, loops around and made secondary land fall over louisiana and texas. we had wrong way lenny, lenny went the wrong way, it went from west to east across the caribbean in 1999. take a look at esther back in 1961, made loop off east coast and headed up through maine. we had an interesting path with kyle, kyle went out to sea, spun around and came right back and also ginger, again, very unusual path, had a loop around bermuda and up towards the east coast of the you had.

now we have matthew expected to really hug the east coast of florida, swing back around and there is some evidence that this could have a loop back and make sand land fall as a weak tropical storm that would be as we head into next week but that is something to watch, it could go out to sea and move away from the area checking in would your eyewitness weather watchers they are experiencing beautiful weather here no problems for matthew here in the philadelphia area we are looking at temperatures in the 07's and beautiful deep blue skies this evening. kenneth martin in willingboro, new jersey he has sunshine, he says was this a great day or what. 50 percent humidity. can't get much better then that. photos showing that deep blue sky, today, this one, great day in, chestnut hill from phil, love that blue skies there and then ed connor sent us this, and leaves beginning to change, beautiful blue sky at around 4:30 this afternoon. so weal say thank to you weather watchers, lets look at what we can expect moving forward. we are going to see threat for some moisture associated with matthew, lifting up in to our area this weekend.

it is not a direct impact from the storm but as front moves through on saturday, some of that moisture lurking off to the south could lift up to the north and train along that front. there will be moisture a wrong the east coast. the saturday as that front comes through you can expect cloud, showers especially in the afternoon. highs only in the 07's. but then on sunday weal clear that off the coast and matthew stays to the south starts to make that loop around we have got beautiful daze with temperatures in the 60's and 70's, lots of sunshine and cool, fall breeze for us. future weather shows dry daze tomorrow, saturday starts off with clouds, maybe a drizzle but saturday afternoon and evening, that some rain will over spread the area and it could be a bit heavy at times in a few spots as that moisture works its way in. overnight, 54, mainly clear and quiet. tomorrow mostly sunny, nice at 76. you're witt the necessary weather seven day forecast rain at times saturday. sunday cool, pleasant, monday and tuesday, 60's again. look at overnight lows in the 40's, some 30's possible in
