meisha is off today. >> the airports are a mess in florida. amtrak a mess, we'll keep an eye on, that but around here, it is okay. >> if you are trying to travel out of the region it seems is where the problem comes up. when the sun comes up, sun glare will be an issue, but so let's turn the focus right away what's going on in the tropics. yes, you have not only got matthew, you have also got now hurricane nicole. thankfully not expected to be any kind of direct threat to even bermuda although just off the south of that, however, this tells you that the atmosphere is ripe for tropical development. two hurricanes out there right now, matthew obviously the one though that we turn our focus to when it comes to major impact, and storm surge out of this, not to mention heavy rainfall amounts, damaging winds speeds. this is a very big deal, the storm system, and a lot of times because we've gone about a decade without any kind of major hit like this in the southeast, specifically to

that remains open, and relatively un affected by hurricane matthew. mass transit checklist is a mess, amtrak suspended in the southeast region, silver star, silver meteor, auto train, all canceled through saturday. palmetto goes down to savage a georgia going through new york city and washington dc only. of course we have to check the amtrak website. here in philly the betsy ross cleared, construction, and it had it down to one lane both sides. that's looking good right now. also the turnpike out by downingtown, just cleared, there have been construction on that side. the vine has opened back up, at least eastbound is still closed, westbound has opened. and 76, the westbound ramp to the boulevard, as you can see right here, i'll step out of the way, that's blocked right now, construction in the left lane, as go toward the roosevelt boulevard. jim, brooke, back to you. >> thanks so much, pat. this morning at least 200,000 people are without power in florida. >> that's as hurricane matthew has lingered off the coast for the last several hours. marlie hall in orlando and

shows us what's happening across hundreds of miles in florida. >> reporter: overnight the outer band of hurricane matthew began pomeling the florida coast with unrelenting rain. and roaring winds. the storm surge from the category three storm sent boats in this harbor rocking side to side. >> real quite a site. >> reporter: storm shutters ripped off the businesses in west palm beach. in daytona beach police were patrolling empty streets as most rest end listened to evacuation warnings. >> we can rebuild homes. we can rebuild businesses. i think of my own family. we can't rebuild a life. this storm is a monster. >> some people living on the coast who couldn't get out of town south safety in red cross shelters. >> this one inside a school cafeteria. >> there were either mobile homes or vulnerable places, heeding the call from the authorities. >> conditions here in orlando will intensify over the next fewer hours, matthew is expected to slam florida all day, with hurricane force winds, and then, turn toward

georgia. the state joined florida in ordering mandatory evacuations, reversing lane of traffic on this highway yesterday to accommodate the exodus. south carolina did the same, as this beach bar stayed open for one last party. >> we're closed after tonight. we should be good after that. >> matthew is expected to move out to sea this weekend. marlie hall, cbs news, orlando, florida. volunteers from our area are actually headed south. >> they're getting ready to help with relief effort after hurricane matthew passes through, now, "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch live in the cbs-3 sat center, shows us how they've been getting ready. good morning. >> that's right. local first responders are already on their way, caring supplies, and lot of experience, many have served in other big storms in our country including hurricane katrina and super storm sandy. now, the red cross of eastern pennsylvania chapter began their preps yesterday. volunteers will join red cross officials on a hurricane matthew response trip to include stops in south

carolina and florida, also, pennsylvania's task force one. "eyewitness news" camera was on hand after convoys began loading up, members briefed. pa task force 11 of fema trained teams called in toughie ponds, their specialties range widely from search and rescue, to emergency medical response. new jersey is also sending its 80 member task force one as well. matthew is now category three storm, expected to carry wind of more than 100 miles per hour and of course those pounding rains. the philadelphia fire department is hosting task force one, and commissioner adam teal says that force is among the best of the best. >> they have different capability, everything from k9 search and rescue, urban search and rescue, real core capability for this team but also water rescue assets, medical folks, so they are really ready for anything that might come. and of course, like we always do, we're preparing for the worse, but hoping for the bells. now, pennsylvania task

"eyewitness news" was at philadelphia international airport last night as the last flight from orlando to philadelphia arrived. now, as you can imagine, the people at american airlines flight 1666 were very thankful to have dodged the storm. >> we had a lot of rain over the last couple of days, and the wind was starting to pick up. >> and the staff told us hurry up and board. so we can get out of here to make sure that the flight was able to leave. >> amtrak southeast train service has also been suspended from florida to north carolina. >> now, we are now seeing the devestation hurricane matthew left behind in cuba. the storm hit the island on monday, with winds of up to 140 miles per hour, hundreds

out from the wreckage yesterday afternoon, then towed away, but we don't know where it is being taken for that additional testing. we ' learning the train was going twice the speed limit, at the moment of impact, federal investigators say this train sped up about 382nd before the crash, they also say the engineer hit the emergency brake less than second before impact. now the engineer has told investigators, he does not remember the crash, one person was killed, and more than 100 other were hurt. >> cyrus, chester county horse, is on the road to recovery this morning after rescue crews removed him from mud this week, the dramatic scene wednesday hoists up the horse by crane. posting this video on facebook, cyrus enjoying a meal, and kind of posing for the press. he is getting vet help, so he can then meet his adoptive family in virginia.

a lot of just either have friend, family, have traveled down there, or live down there, this is very serious storm system. thankfully only delivering very indirect impact to our area which we'll discuss. let me take you out here to just couple of the likely first, that we will see, with matthew. >> first category one landfall, 100 miles of the kennedy space center and major hundred cane that's impact the the jacksonville area since 1898. very long history here where we have seen some impressive. >> been a while since we've seen something of this magnitude. i really hope a lot of people or majority of the people under the evacuation orders have taken heed, and actually listened. now, looking at storm scan3, nice wide zoom, we want to

give you sense of the overall pattern here, your eye just gets drawn to matthew, very well defined storm system. but you should see how the moisture is actually getting drawn north already. the storm itself will not make it further north of north carolina but see it get drawn, and helps to draw that north future rain ability, talking very substantial rainfall out of this, some spots possibly upward after foot, and might even see more than that, out near the shore line. but places like savannah could end up with over 9-inch of rainout of the storm system. and that's from just tomorrow evening. so, very, very impression i have rainfall totals, not to mention the winds field, that's helping to send the storm surge, in other words, abnormal rise in the water level on shore. it is a wall of higher water, coming at you, and with the kind of force that this casino every wind speed can bring,

could be deadly, tough ooh mile per hour sustained winds, majority of the north florida coastline here, through tonight, and then it starts to move into georgia, as well as south carolina, before it eventually end up in north carolina problem, come sunday, and you're dealing with this now for multiple days. so that's another reason that it is such aim press i have system, such dangerous one. outside locally, quiet, cool as a bell, don't have the blanket of cloud cover that we built from yesterday. you will actually see that later tonight. so through the overnight, talking only 59 for low. because the clouds are rebuilding by tomorrow, specific to the afternoon and evening, some rain moves in, and it could be locally steady, but then back in the clear by sunday. pat, back over to you. >> katie, looking like pretty good weekends, i'll take that. not food ban on the vine, traffic cruising in and out of the city, east and westbound, that opened up around 5:00 a.m. normally closed overnight, for construction, and between broad street and the schuylkill, but looking good
