next problem, but meantime, again, here is that storm system as we look at it, in the last few hours, it is just expansive, and very, very potent. now, back here at home, the temperature readings are, well, bit of variety pack, casino every like what you saw yesterday. nice clear sky has allowed the temperatures to drop off very readily up in the mountains, lehigh valley mid 40's this morning, so send the kids out to the bus here this morning with extra layer for sure. remind them: bring it back home with you, because they'll be taking it off, leaving it in the locker at recess, it does warm up pretty efficiently as the day goes on, looking at the school planner, 57 at best for the ride to school. again, more outlying suburbs, probably talking lower than that to start the day off. in the sunshine, another accessary you will want is the sunglasses as we rebounds low to mid 70s, and for the ride home looks like beautiful day. much like what we saw yesterday. but, coming up, the front we showed you, eventually crosses through, and that will actually live up to it name, and send us back to the below average territory on the

alternate is bristol road in this area. and, florida airports, check your carriers for the delays in fort lauderdale, orlando, miami, jim, brooke, back to you. >> this morning florida, georgia, south carolina are under state of emergency. >> that's of course as hurricane matthew lingers offer the east coast. it has been there all night long. it has left at least 200,000 people in the dark. this is a live look from daytona beach. correspondent marlie hall is in orlando, shows us the damaging impact matthew has had in florida over the last several hours. >> overnight, the outer band of hurricane matthew began pomeling the florida coast with unrelenting rain. and roaring winds. the storm surge from the category three storm sent boats in this harbor rocking side to side. >> really quite a site. >> storm shutters were ripped off the front of businesses in west palm beach. in daytona beach police left patrolling empty streets as most resident listened to

evacuation warnings. >> this storm is a monitor. >> some people living on the coats who couldn't get out every town south safety. >> there were only mobile homes or vulnerable places are heeding the authorities. >> will intensify over the next few hours, matthew expect to slam florida all day with hurricane force winds, then turn toward georgia. the state joins florida in ordering mandatory evacuations cents, reversing lane of traffic on this highway yesterday to accommodate the exodus. south carolina did the same, as this beach bar stayed open for one last party. >> we are closed after tonight. should be good after that. >> matthew is expected to move out to sea this weekend. marlie hall, cbs news, orlando, florida. >> while the storm is still not over, relief effort are already underway. >> and that includes efforts by volunteers from right here in the delaware valley.

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live in the cbs-3 sat center. he tells us what some of those volunteers are doing, justin, good morning. >> brooke, jim, good morning, some volunteers, others specialized first responders, many going down with a lot of experience, and they say they're preparing for just about anything. >> task force one en route south. >> their destination unknown, what these folks do every day, when they are working with the fire department. never know what they're going out to. >> the philadelphia fire department host pennsylvania task force one, and commissioner adam says it is among the best the best. >> they have different capable, everything from k9 search and rescue, urban search and rescue, technical rescuement real poor capability for this team but also water rescue assets, hazardous assets, medical folks, so they are really ready for anything that might come. and of course like we always do, we're preparing for the worse but hoping for the best. >> the pa task force is among several fema trained teams

deploying. new jersey sending its task force as well, red cross from eastern pennsylvania chapter began prepping supplies yesterday, their response trip takes them to south carolina and florida where matthew is forecast to bear down winds of more than 100 miles per hour, and pounding rain. >> every hurricane has its own dna. it own characteristics. matthew will write its own story. >> now, storm watchers say though matthew has weakened somewhat, it does not mean the impact will and local responders say they're ready for that, too, some have pitched in where others made national event, including hurricane katrina and super storm sandy. jim, brooke, back into. >> you. >> hurricane matthew causing serious trouble trouble for families headed to and from the impact zone. "eyewitness news" was at philadelphia international airport last night, and the last flight from orlando to philly arrived. the american airlines passengers were thankful they were able to dodge the storm. >> we had a lot of rain over the last couple of days.

staff told us to hurry up and board so they could leave. >> the airline canceled 4,000 flights so far. amtrak southeast train service also suspended from florida to north carolina. now seeing the devestation hurricane matthew left behind in cuba. the storm hit the island, monday, with winds of up to 140 miles an hour. hundreds of homes had their roofs blown off while about 30 homes were wash away in northeast cuba. no deaths in cuba reported. unfortunately that's not the case in haiti where more than 260 people died because of hurricane in the ooh. a united nations off initial haiti says the storm is the country's worse humanitarian disaster since the 2010 earthquake. the southeastern part of haiti is cut off from the rest of the island, because of a bridge collapse, making it hard to get relief there. >> our coverage of hurricane matthew does not end here.

update the prevailing wage ordinance. it now covers employees of hospital, university, airports, ports, and stadiums, that receives public money. companies who receive public money or tax breaks must pay the going rate in the market, or pay a specific standard that's been set, the ordinance says workers must make which ever is higher. >> local schools continue to deal with clown threats. we'll tell you where police are investigating this morning. >> plus, new information about the new jersey transit train that crashed into hoboken's terminal. we now know just how fast that train was going. and, check this out. video of hurricane hunters flying into the eye of the storm. katie has an update on hurricane matthew's track next.

>> new jersey transit commuter train that slammed into train station in hoboken has been removed and undergoing testing at another site. crews worked to pull the train out from the wreckage yesterday afternoon. it was then towed away, but we don't yet know where it is being taken for that additional testing. this morning, we are learning, however, that the train was going twice the speed limit, which is 10 miles per hour, at the moment of impact. federal investigators say, the train sped up about 382nd before that crash they also say the engineer hit the emergency break less than second before impact. engineer has told investigators he does not remember the crash, one person you may recall was killed, and more than 100 other were hurt. >> police say they took a teenager to jail for clown scare in new jersey. fourteen year old boy dressed in a clown costume ran outside a middle school scaring busload of children wednesday evening. police arrested the teenager saying he terrorized the

student. they also sent letter to parent telling them about the prank. officers say these clown sitings will be taken seriously. >> still following developing news out of florida. hurricane matthew moving up along the state's east coast, and this is a look at the impact on cocoa beach to the east of orlando you can see the trees blowing in the strong winds, and even transformer exploded. now, this is a live look, at least 200,000 people have been left without power in florida. >> this will be going on all day long, katie. i mean, this is a slow mover. >> it is, it actually has gained little bit of more speed since yesterday. but we're talking like five, six, 7 miles per hour, so really is still quite slow. look at the tropical satellite right now and it is a very potent category three, it is ominous looking. and when you have got this kind of expands, already seeing those outer rain bands, as far north as even into virginia, but specially north

carolina, still expected to be one of those storms that just makes very strange path and track loops around, follows the coastline whether it makes landfall or not, still little bet of a question mark very close, and then recur respect itself. just because of the way the atmosphere is panning out. so, hurricane warnings extends anywhere still from the bahamas, the storm starting to retreat now all the way up the florida coastline anywhere from just between mel born and miami, right up toward myrdle beach, and hurricane or rather tropical storm watch as you head further north, and very likely, for the northern shore of south carolina and into north carolina, at least see this become hurricane watch. we expect that storm will actually remain a storm, hurricane strength, by the time it reaches them. now again, it is a category three at the movement, take a look at the wind speeds, tropical storm force win speeds we're seeing there is could extend tropical storm force or greater would be 35 miles per hour or greater

headed south to help with relief effort. these are members of the new jersey search and rescue team rolling out last night. the team includes police, fire, medical personnel, who are highly trained, and now of course new jersey state police say a large part of the task force is staying in new jersey, ready to respond to any emergency here. >> marlie hall is live. what are the conditions in orlando so far? >> here in orlando, started raining at about 3:00 this morning, ever since then, it has gotten steadily heavier. also, some pretty strong wind gusts but we know the conditions will in fact intensify. matthew will make it a shore or very close to it later today. the florida coast is in for a long day, of winds, rain, and storm surge, storm surge specially concerning, could reach 9 feet or more in some areas, and could be

potentially deadly. >> in a sign every just how big this storm is, major theme parks, such as disney closed and disney doesn't do this often? >> you're right. they don't do this often. in fact, this is the fourth time in its history, that they've closed, because of storm, now, it is not justice any world, it is also universal studios, as well as sea world. those major theme parks, they close at 5:00 p.m. yesterday. and they will remain closed all day today. >> big impact on travel in the region, any idea how many flight concellations so far? >> there has been huge impact on travel. lot and lots of concellations, 3700 flights, through tomorrow, have been canceled. airports from miami all the way to up orlando have been closing, as well, brooke, jim? >> thanks a lot, marl owe. >> meanwhile our coverage of hurricane matthew continues. wait until you see the tough

we've lost almost all of the signs here, two of them are fallen, the other two have fallen, surprisingly, they're still light. surprisingly i haven't seen any lights go out anywhere. hard to imagine what it is like, now that we haven't lost power anywhere. very strong. a lot of rain. i don't know if it is rain or just coming from the ocean water. definately not something you want to be driving in or be in. i know sometimes people are concern about us, and our safety, as well. as soon as i go to the other side of this wall, then i'm safe from the wind. so, i'm doing this just to show you what it is like, i'm not sure what the miles per hour are, but enough that it is just standing in this way, that it was to would kick me

over. >> great perspective, showing you what it is like to be battered by hurricane. i'm surprised she can even speak. i've covered those storms before it, takes your breath away. >> it really does. and i can definately echo the same thing jim. i've been around in a couple of different storms in my time. it is very stinking, when you have got those kind of whipping winds, the rain, like it smacks you in the face just ping, ping over and over again, and hurt to be out in that. our thoughts go out to these field crews that do their jobs so well, just showing us what it is like, out in these kind of storms. and there is a reason that the officials have posted evacuations. now, looking at the forecast models with this storm system, it is still a very potent category three storm. we still expect very good consistency overall, couple of outline ers obviously, but the general consistency is that this will be making a loop, and zero back in on the bahamas in the days ahead come tuesday, especially.

now, we talk about storm surge a lot when we talk about these storms. storm surge is nothing more than a normal rise in the water level. and it is generated by storm, above the tide. so, what you can have, not just with winter but also with hurricane, kind of storm system, the sea will rise up, it will shove water feet higher on to the shore line than you normally would see even at a high tide. and that's why you need to evacuate, because that is deadly if you're stuck in it, looking at the possibility of storm surge with hurricane matthew it, could be anywhere from nine to 12 or at least 11 feet through this entire zone. so that is affecting miles of coastline, millions of people, and understandably, again, evacuation orders have been put out. let's switch gears. want to bring you back here to our local area. where the eyewitness weather watch remembers out in some very calm weather by comparison. picture came in this important from john, showed us 6:30 a.m. skyline. pat has been showing just this
