no negotiations happened here overnight. at this point it is unclear just how long this strike will last at the very least, septa is hoping to have attentive agreement in place, by election day, so this strike does not impact voter turn out. take a look at the video. the transportation workers local union 234 officially went on strike at 12:01 this morning. operators dropped off their last passengers, and returned to the depo effectively shutting down septa bus, trolley, subway service until further notice. now, the union president says his roughly 5,000 members will not report to work today, instead, they'll go to the picket lines, local 234 and septa had been negotiating through the weekend, they continue to do so yesterday, to no avail. and early morning press conference, the union says that the two sides are still far apart on pension, healthcare, and as well as work rules. >> we have economic issues as far as pensions, you have the healthcare, you also have things like i said come to driver fatigue, maybe do

something to not have operators run down the street half asleep. >> we're staying at the bargaining table, and we're going to make sure that everyone stays talking. and that's the only thing that we did do. >> septa went onto re less this statement reading in part that the union president, quote, walk away from contract offer that would have provided his members pay raises, and enhance pension benefits, maintain healthcare coverage levels, continue job security, while also remaining fair, and affordable, for the taxpayers and riders who fund septa. now, mayor jim kenney obviously concerned about this strike, he's asking anyone who could work on flexibility hours to do so, because this morning commute will be very rough for people working in the city as well as school children, trying to get to school. we will stay to up date with all of the contract negotiations but for now live in center city philadelphia, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", rahel, jim, back into you. >> jan, thank you. meanwhile team coverage

continues at the frankford transportation center justin finch, justin, workers waking up struggling to find a way to get to work. good morning. >> absolutely right. we have seen trickles of people make their way past the frankford transportation center, and as you can see, this clearly closed no trains moving on the el, trolley buses here are clearly locked up. no doubt, frustrating site for many who rely on septa. let's show you now how this all began overnight, close to 5,000 bus, subway, trolley workers, members of local 234, are now off the job. at city hall, buses began making their final stops at midnight, and commuter frustrations were starting to simmer at that time. some were just getting off work, others were on their way. but, by the stroke of midnight they say they were left waiting near the clothespin wondering thousand get to work if at all during the course of the strike. midvale bus depo, "eyewitness news" was there as striking staff began their walk off

after midnight. in south philly our cameras were rolling, at bus after bus, pulled into the depo, with their septa off duty status on. the driver and depo stap leaving their post to pick up picket signs, and began protesting, as commuters say they were left stranded overnight. >> i got off at midnight. i was hoping that they would not go on strike. but, fortunately, they actually did. and there is people across the street that are still stick out here. i'm stuck out here. >> they went to the -- wait to the last minute to do this, people on the bus, it is not fair for whole lot of people that have to catch the bus home. >> back live, with septa off line, many riders forced to make other plans, they're already complaining full cast and also high fares on upper and other ride sharing services, many demanding septa refunds their weekly fast cents and other advance pay fares.

>> thank you, for the update. >> now we head over to meisha for breakdown of everything that's running, and not running. hi, meisha? >> good morning, you guys. well, because much of septa is shutdown right now, what's going to happen is a lot of people are going to be jumping into their vehicles and hitting the roadway, a lot of people decide not to ride. on day like today a lot of people will be. because of that, certainly starting to see some slow downs, just take a lock at the vine, in fact, looking at the vine, i would say, ten minutes ago, before even in the 6:00 hour, it looked very busy. so the vine is looking busy, 95 pushing in the southbound direction at cottman, why is it looking like this? because of the septa strike. that is absolutely going to impact our drive, even if you are in your vehicles. so the first question a lot of p.m. are asking what is not running? okay, well, city buses, subways, trolleys. these rollie trouts, ten, 11, 13, 15, 34, 36. regional rails the only running septa in the city right now, and norristown high-speed line, suburban buses trolley routes 101, 102,

lucy, ccp connect. some additional information on parking, you guys, a lot of parking garages will be running a flat rate of $10 for up to ten hours. so check with your parking garage. also, no parking on broad on brd between spring garden and south street, and adding extra hour for those every that you run over your meters and kiosk. they're going to add gracefully an extra hour, so that will help a lot of people out that maybe get delayed just little bit because of all of the charges in septa. so katie overall running out the door, busy tuesday morning, not only is this going to affect the adults but kids as well. >> yes, absolutely, i always can tell you though that the weather doesn't have any casino every roll in that here today. so there will be sun glare issues, as the morning progresses but for now the sun obviously not up yet. just trying to get out the door though at least storm scan quiet. this is not an issue for us, that is calm, collected forecast, and frankly very typical start to our month of november here. looking at how the temperatures have really dropped off though since this same time yesterday, they town take pretty solid hit.
