>> ♪ >> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> a community on alert. some members of the gay and lesbian community say they fear for their safety in the wake of the presidential election. good evening, i'm natasha brown. philadelphia police are looking into at least two different incidents. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff is tracking the very latest from south detectives. alex. >> reporter: well, natasha, detectives here interviewed a manton night who was allegedly targeted and attacked for being gay. this happened thursday night near oregon and broad street. after receiving word of this mayor jim kenney responding were it an emotional statement saying it is difficult to express the full extent of the devastation and anger i felt upon learning of this hate crime much we sat down with another member of the lgbt community says he's experienced firsthand what he feels is post election hostility when a group of men

started talking loudly politics at the gym. >> how people like them are going to take america back. >> reporter: when the talk became derogatory about minority groups he asked them to stop. >> i think there's a lot of hate going around even from both sides. i think that donald trump's victory and his kind of surprise victory has made a lot of people who may have kept their racist misogynistic views to themselves before now feel emboldened they can come out in public and not have to hide anymore. >> reporter: andre murray doesn't equate this hostility he's seen to the presidential election. >> call them all kind of names and i'm like -- so, i stop and says why is y'all attacking these people like this? i mean they cannot bothering with nobody. >> reporter: a long time south philadelphia resident he says he's had to intervene in a spike of homophobic activity over the course of the last

year. now, as for the situation at the gym, a police report was filed and the man accused of throwing that item has been barred from the location. reporting live in south philadelphia, alexandria hoff cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> all right, alex thank you so much. also now investigators say the racist and threatening members targeting black students at the university of pennsylvania have been linked to a students at the university of oklahoma. officials there say in a statement "the university has already determined from its preliminary inquiry that there's a basis for a temporary suspension of the student under our student code while we continue to gather all of the facts. "now the racist and threatening messages began appearing on students' phones through the messaging app group me. u penn police say they are now working with the fbi in this case. and protestors are hitting the streets for a fourth night in a row in philadelphia and all across the country as president-elect donald trump vets possible cabinet members for this new administration. the the demonstrators are

protesting the outcome of this election. cbs news correspondent roxana sibiri has more. >> reporter: a fourth dave protests against president-elect donald trump from los angeles to new york. >> not my president. >> reporter:. >> he's racist homophobic sexist not for the people went don't want this. >> reporter: what do you say to those people who say this is the way the system works and donald trump won. >> i think it's time to change the system. >> reporter: the crowds ended up on trump's doorstep and stayed into the night. some of these protestors have been out here in front of the trump tower for hours. they say they want trump to look out his window see them and hear their voices. >> we're going to keep in you line, we're going make sure you don't make any drastic decisions and i'm a millennial. it's our future. >> reporter: also in the crowd a few trump supporters. >> give him a chance that's all i'm saying. >> reporter: in his first post election interview trump told "60 minutes" he owes his victory partly to social

is actually in effect tonight, right lauren. >> yeah, natasha, another chilly night ahead after a cool night. our high temperature 51 and that is our coolest high of the season so far. didn't make it out of the mid 40's in the poconos. didn't make it out of the 40's at lancaster. we only topped at 50 degrees in millville and tonight is going to be another chilly one. freeze warnings in effect for philadelphia and delaware counties in pennsylvania. much of delaware also cape may county in new jersey until 8 o'clock in the morning and temperatures are already chilly. we're down near the freezing mark in media. 34 degrees in medford, 35 degrees your currents temperature in west chester and overnight tonight heading down or even below that freezing mark bottoming out at 28 degrees in lancaster. heading down 34 degrees in philadelphia and the at the freezing mark in wilmington. so for the lemon run tomorrow morning benefiting alex's lemonade stand it is going to be chilly. we'll have nice sunshine but 39 degrees for the start of the race at around 8 o'clock but even after this chilly start, temperatures are going

to rebound pretty dramatically as we head into tomorrow afternoon em we'll talk about that all important game time temperature for the birds game in your full forecast coming up in just a few. >> lauren thank you. we'll see you soon. new tonight philadelphia police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in olney. it happened during a traffic stop at fourth and lindley around 6 o'clock. an officer chased a man who jumped out of the car. police say the suspect pointed a gun at the officer and that officer shot the suspect. he was taken to einstein medical center by police and is currently in critical condition. a second suspect in the car was taken into custody and police are still looking for a third suspect in this case. a standoff meantime between a barricaded man and police ends peacefully in langhorne, bucks county. it began at hulmeville road and gilliam avenue around noon. police arrived to check on a 42-year-old man and it quickly concerned into a barricade situation. suspect shared one shot from

the house hitting a tree. the suspect was taken into custody and arrested around 8 o'clock. investigators also say one person was injured in a row house fire in philadelphia's olney neighborhood. firefighters responding to the 6000 of north philip street just before 2 o'clock this morning. there's no word on how seriously the person was hurt. right now the red cross is assisting seven people who lived in that row house. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. ridley township police have recovered an ambulance stolen from the woodlynne fire department. investigators say an unidentified suspect stole the vehicle during a bingo fundraiser at station 67 last night. it was recovered in a lot this morning. the ambulance was not damaged we understand. and no arrests have been made just yet. the taliban is now claiming responsibility for today's suicide attack at bagram air field in afghanistan. four americans were killed. defense secretary ash carter says two of the victims were u.s. service men and the other

two were american contractors. another 16 u.s. service members were wounded. the concert hall where 90 people were killed during the paris terror attacks has now reopened. sting performed at the bataclan tonight, the first show at the venue since november 13th of 2015. that was when islamic militants attacked a sports stadium, a string of paris cafes and that concert venue. 130 people were killed. sting asked the audience to observe a moment of silence. and all the proceeds will go to two paris charities. well, wildfires burning now near the georgia-north carolina border with smoke so thick apparently people are being urged to wear special masks. evacuations are currently under way in georgia north carolina and 10 tent at least 20 wildfires are burning at this hour. the largest has scorched more than 13,000 acres.

and chris carolyn. monday he plans to appear on the morning show. while in town he's also taking in the sights of philly his new home away from home. >> i always want to be here. it's something special for me and i hope it will be for a long time. >> reporter: andrew believes he could be good luck for the birds on sunday. since arriving in town the sixers won their first game of the seats son. his prediction the eagles 32, the falcons 24. in south philadelphia, i'm cleve bryan cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> overcoming the odds. thousands of people took to the streets of philadelphia for the rocky run today. the rocky balboa 5k and 10k took place this morning with a course ending at the artimus museum. rocky balboa inspired the run and many say they chose this event specifically because it represents resilience. it's almost the season of giving and a local organization is preparing to help those in need. a food pantry in south jersey can use your helping hand to give hope to others.

when it comes to finding big helpers in this world sometimes you have to look in the basement of little churches. on the second saturday each month for the past seven years, the parish hall at saint thomas episcopal church in glassboro becomes the kitchen of hope a food pantry that serves up to 200 families. >> it was a need in gloucester county we looked at the statistics and showed there was a need and how many people who were in need and going hungry. >> reporter: many of those receiving food assistance are single moms seniors and children. volunteers from the church as well as next door rowan university bag and carry groceries for clients. >> it means a lot to me. healthy food is sump a great blessing. i just appreciate the help and their support in the community. >> reporter: this saturday the groceries include food to help families prepare a thanksgiving meal. while full of love and support the kitchen of hope has challenges specifically

orbit in a circle it actually orbits in an ellipse so at some points the moon is actually closer to the earth than other points in its orbit something we call perigee in science world so this perigee is actually going to be the closest since 1948. so, essentially the moon is going to be at its closest point to earth since 1948 and of course it's a supermoon, it can look about 30 percent brighter and about 14 to 15 percent bigger than your typical full moon so again check that out. monday is the official full moon and moon rise is at 5:20 in the evening but again, you'll get a good view both tomorrow night and monday night as well. even tonight the moon is in full effect. clear sky conditions but it is a bit chilly. 41 degrees right now winds out of the southwest. a southerly component to our wind flow will help warm us up as we head into tomorrow afternoon. it feels like 36 degrees right now as your currents temperature and we are chilly all across the region. we've already fallen into the 20's in millville, 29 degrees. we're close to freezing in

allentown. still up at 35 degrees but definitely chilly in mount pocono but woe don't have the blustery conditions that we had going about 24 hours ago this time so we still do have wind speeds up around three, five, 8 miles per hour adding to that wind chill element but it's not quite as brutal as what we were feeling wind-wise this time yesterday evening but there's your wind chill impact in allentown, feeling more like 25 degrees, feeling like 27 degrees right now mount pocono. future feels-like temps as we head into the overnight period if you're an early riser tomorrow morning it's going to be feeling like 20's all along the i-95 corridor including in center city philadelphia. mid morning still feeling like 40's for most of us and then as we head into lunchtime midday these numbers will start to rebound as temperatures make a pretty big jump up from the morning to the afternoon so a really gorgeous fall day for that eagles game. all important game at the linc. 58 degrees sunshine a west wind around 10 miles per hour and storm scan3 showing us very quiet conditions a couple of clouds trying to sneak into

carbon and monroe counties. but otherwise we stay quiet all the day tomorrow. really not until midday monday do we see the the cloud deck starting to increase. we'll have an area of low pressure pulling up from the south. models having a little bit of difficulty and where we will see some rainfall and when we will see some rainfall from this system but likely monday night and into the first half of the day on tuesday we could see a few passing showers. fairly light in intensity. could see more moderate pockets but again high levels of confidence in this rainfall chance but we could still see certainly passing showers monday night and again on tuesday but for tonight mostly clear and cold dropping back to 34 degrees and tomorrow beautiful fall day, mostly sunny might, 60 degrees the high temperature and really niles in the poconos, 53 the high. down the shore still a bit cool with high temperatures around 58 degrees and in your seven-day forecast, there's that chance of an evening shower on monday. shower chance on tuesday highs in the upper 50's. we're in the middle 50's on wednesday under a mix of sun and clouds, really nice by thursday up top 60 degrees. hey, how about some middle 60's in november for friday

then the hawks took over: atlanta beat the sixers 117 to 96 the final. eagles, the birds are four and four on the season which is not bad considering they have a rookie head coach and quarterback but things are going to be pretty tough for them for the rest of the month after the falcons outplayed the seahawks and packers. doug pederson was asked what improvements they need to make in the second half of the season. a little more consistency offensively. learning how finish drives scoring in the red zone those types of things that we saw earlier in the season we got to get back to doing that. you know, defensively i think just keep kind of doing what we're doing, you know, putting pressure on the quarterback, creating turnovers. and then on special teams, getting more explosive runs out of -- out of them are things that you would like to see now down the stretch. >> and we will get you ready for the battle of the birds tomorrow morning at 11:30 on sunday kickoff.

we join sports director don bell pat gallen merrill reese and myself. we'll be live at the linc at 11:30 right here on cbs3. to college football penn state has been on a roll. the tenth ranked nittany lions have won five in a row going into today's game against indiana. penn '78 state way four-point lead. westbrook hauls in the 40-yard strike. indiana takes a 31 top 28 lead. barkley rushed for just 58 yards but scored his second touchdown in the fourth quarter right here and penn state regained the lead with that. less than a minute left indiana needs the touchdown to tie the game. lego sacked fumbled brown scooping it inrunning in for the 9-yard score. six in a row for penn state. 45-31 the final. villanova playing james madison it was the final regular season home game for andy at a technological who is retiring after 32 years on the main line.

"eyewitness news" at malcolm x memorial park on 52nd and pine as volunteers spent the afternoon sprucing up the area part of the love your park service day and philadelphia mayor jim kenney was also there to give a helping hand as well. coming together it was all for a great cause here in south philadelphia. more than 15,000 people turned out at citizens bank park for the walk to end alzheimer's. the largest walk of the entire year. all of the money raised will go to alzheimer's research and also for care and support for the alzheimer's association delaware valley chapter. after the break everyone christmas arrives in new york
