philadelphia. tonight the mayor speaks out calling for an end to the violence. we begin with breaking news the search for a little girl who place say is in extreme danger. >> i'm yukee washington. >> i'm jessica dean. police in virginia have issued an amber alert for a four-year-old she was last seen with her father and police think they may be headed to new jersey right now. they could be in a 1995 burgundy chevy van with a virginia license plate vmg-2332. if you see this little girl or her father call police. our other top story tonight, philadelphia mayor jim kenney with a strong message for the entire city. >> he spoke out this evening with a disturbing incident for the entire day. greg? >> reporter: and yukee, jessica, good evening. it has been a rough week here in

philadelphia. tonight though the mayor coming out condemning this violence and telling everyone put your differences aside and come together. >> when you sign up for mayor you get the good and the bad. >> reporter: unfortunately right now he is dealing with a lot of the latter. just in past saturday, four people including an off-duty philly cop hurt when a group of teens rushed through 16th street and walnut street. he tried to stop one of them and was punched in the face. >> our commissioner is quite angry as we are and we will get to the bottom of it. >> reporter: also late week. >> calling someone by any type of slur, defacing a building, participating in a flash mob does nothing to. >> reporter: the mayor making

the comments for a wrap-up party for philadelphia's unity cup. it's meant to showcase those from different cultures living here in philadelphia. >> in the past few days there have been hateful attacks, intimidation, damage to public and private property. these acts have no place in our city. >> reporter: and many living here seem to be in full agreement. >> this is the time to stick together. this is the time to be unified as a people. >> it's okay to demonstrate. it's okay to express your feelings. it's not okay to be angry. it's not okay to go after people. it's not okay to be violent. >> now of course for this latest incident we're talking about the flash mob which occurred here on saturday at walnut street. the mayor says two people have been arrested and he's expecting many more. we're live here in center city. i'm greg argos, cbs3 eyewitness news. >> greg, thank you. and new tonight parents, students and administrators come

together to talk about acts of vandalism. natasha brown is in newtown where she talked with the district september tonight. >> reporter: it was billed as an informal presidential. a discussion how we can best take care of the children of our school community. but whatever discussion did take place happened behind closed doors because the media wasn't allowed inside. >> that's unbelievable. the whole point behind this meeting is diversity and inclusion i think we need the media there to be part of the inclusion. >> reporter: the meeting was prompted by vandalism, racism and homophobic images found last week. also astudent says she found a note in her backpack telling her to go back to mexico. >> i'm embarrassed to be living in the school district amidst

this activity. >> it's moments like this that make the white people that i know oh, my gosh this is happening in our community like it's a surprise. and i think it's a good thing to be exposed so we can all work together. >> reporter: some parents we talk to say this is far from an isolated incident. >> my kids have experienced things and that's part of why i want to keep it confidential because i'm working with the school system to make the situation best for my own children. >> reporter: parents started emerging from what they describe as a spirited meeting. some seemed hopeful. >> there was a diversity of opinions and per expectatives and suggestions, but i think overall i was encouraged. >> this is happening at the high school, then it's going to filter down, it's going happen in the junior high. i'm going have my daughter going to junior high next year and it's going to happen in the elementary schools. >> we had a very positive meeting this evening. we had about 50 parents here with us this evening.

excellent dialogue. >> the superintendent says there will be another meeting on tuesday with parents to continue to discuss this issue. in new town, bucks county. >> president-elect isn't wasting any time assembling staff and cabinet members he'll need in the white house. rudy guiliani is the favorite to be trump's secretary of state. this as president obama spoke about the transition earlier today. >> president obama held his first news conference today. >> my goal is on january 21st america in a strongest position possible. >> obama talked about his meeting with trump last week. he says he still has concerns about trump's presidency but thinks he can succeed. >> i don't think he is ideological, ultimately he is pragmatic in that way. that can serve him well. as long as he's got good people

around him and he has a clear sense of direction. >> reporter: trump spent the weekend inside a newly fortified trump tower forming his inner circle. freeb us will have to share control with steve bannon, someone who comes from a much different wing of the party. >> the tenor of the announcement caused me some concern about who was actually going to be in charge. >> reporter: loyalty to donald trump is what priebus and bannon have in common. it's also a common thread among cabinet picks. rudy guiliani, chris christie, while conservative radio host laura ingram is being seriously considered for press secretary among others.

>> president obama said he will not comment on president elect choices for key positions so he can say consistent with the notion that his administration is going to try to facilitate a smooth transition. president-elect trump's campaign says he's trying to figure out how to transfer the family real estate business to his children. the massive portfolio presents possible conflicts of interest. he has said he would put the interest in a blind trust run by his children however his children are also involved in the transition and ethics watchdogs say it may wall off the trump organization from the trump administration. and facebook is taking some heat post election. some feel the social network affected the outcome. >> should the social media giant sensor -- censor what is posted

online. >> he called it pretty crazy that facebook impacted the election. according to one report not all facebook executives shared that sentiment and it could cause them to reassess how information is shared on the popular site. >> reporter: in a nutshell, facebook during election season was. >> wild. >> there were a lot of opinions. and i would say very strong opinions. >> i did see some and i kind of scrolled past it. >> i tried to avoid facebook. >> now less than one week, some are pointing fingers citing the distribution of fake news stories, racist memes. >> i think that's the really main problem with facebook. you sort of see things in the way you want to see them. it's catered to what you like. >> reporter: and according to sources in this new york times article some facebook executives are internally questioning what

kind of questioning what kind of influence they had. >> there are obviously certain restrictions in terms of contents. i don't think when it comes to politics that's necessarily appropriate. >> we're grown. we're adults. we should be able to make up our own minds. >> if we move to censorship, the big question i have, who's making those decisions. >> reporter: a social media expert says the purpose for social network is to connect with like-minded individuals. >> when they start filtering, that's when they run the risk of ruining the experience. >> reporter: he says it's up to the individual to using facebook to use better judgment. >> it's up to them. they need to play the role of the editor. they need to look at the sources that they're viewing. >> reporter: even if you've grown tired of all the political posts. >> it is the first amendment. as annoying as it is. >> now on saturday zuckerberg

>> we have been working in cooperation with the cdc, fda and various state health departments to ensure patient safety. >> a scare in the air today in canada. two flight attendants were hurt after their plane nearly collided with a suspected drone. the plane was geding ready to land when the pilot zig-zaged to avoid hitting the object in the sky. here in the u.s., the skies are becoming more crowded with drones. the unmanned aircraft will likely be a hot ticket this holiday season. as our greg argos reports there are new rules designed to keep

everyone on the ground and in the air safe. >> reporter: call them what you want. unmanned aerial systems, remotely piloted aircraft, or simply drones. two things are certain. they're incredibly popular, and as soon in these youtube videos, they can easily be destroyed. >> i watch those videos and i can tell right away this is what you did wrong and this is why you should come and get training. >> reporter: colin flies aircraft in both the manned and unmanned variety and has been for years. >> i've been into rc aircraft, cars, boats, everything since i was a kid. >> reporter: he's also a flight instructor for dart drones in scranton, pennsylvania. and with sales of drones only expected to rise. >> the technology makes them a lot more useful, a lot more

easier for the average person to pick up and learn to fly. >> reporter: colin is in charge of teaching professional drone users how to safely operate their aircraft. >> about two or three years ago the faa looked at things and they basically said hey, what's all these little aircraft that people have flying all over the place and what are we going to do about it. >> now commercial users must pass essentially the same test private pilots must pass before they can get into the cockpit smd. >> understanding fully the national air space system, different classes of air space, different types of airports, different types of federal airways that exist around the country. it's a very complex system. >> reporter: and one that can take up to 40 hours of studying to pass. these new rules apply to those flying these unmanned aerial aircraft for a business purpose, but there are also faa guidelines which apply to people flying these things for fun.

those guidelines include keeping your drone below 400 feet and within your eyesight and at least 5 miles from any airport. anyone can fly without any training as long as the drone is registered with the federal aviation administration. >> you pay 5 bucks, you go on and you're registered and you're good to go. the landing gear goes up. >> reporter: and already businesses like liberty drones in society hill are booming. >> we opened the shop because we saw the need. >> reporter: the co-owner says he's seeing an increase in first-time drone buyers purchasing high end aircraft. >> give them as much education as they can. >> that's the key, knowing how, when, and where to properly fly your drone. experts say proper training could prevent you losing thousands of dollars in a second. and as drone usage becomes even more commonplace, that same knowledge and training could save lives. >> accidents can and will happen

is was a gorgeous start to the day. there we go right around midday clouds arrived from the south and once the clouds were in very rapidly they stayed in for quite some time. and it ended up being a chilly overcast afternoon. you can see some storm scan 3 this storm is an underperformer. we talk ovenl about snowstorms that are overperformers, this one is really not doing much of anything. we've got some scattered showers around. the heaviest of the rain is off the coast out to sea. and it's headed up to portions of long island. we do have some showers around dc that are starting to fizzle. at most we pick up a couple of showers here overnight and into tomorrow. roads may be damp but we're not expecting heavy rain, just clouds and a little bit of miss and drizzle overnight. less than a quarter inch of rain for all of us, even lower amounts north and west where we'll pick up a couple of

scattered showers. the transition starts tomorrow shower then sunshine. we'll get the rain on out of here. partly sunny for your wednesday, temperatures right where they should be in the upper 50s. thursday we start the warm-up back to the 60s. low 60s on thursday and it is mostly sunny and it just gets warmer from there. as far as the overnight hours, showers at times, that will continue through tuesday morning. the steadiest is in eastern new jersey and just offshore. less than a quarter of an inch. we do need the rain, if we're po going to get these showers it might as well rain a little heavier. a warmer pattern late in the week as the jet stream rises to the north and wait until you see the warm-up we've got for you on the 7-day forecast. mostly cloudy, some showers around overnight. tomorrow morning showers perhaps a few breaks of sun in the afternoon. wednesday back to 58 which is seasonable and then we go well above average with friday and saturday near 70 degrees. we'll make a run for it one of
