street here, now, police say, he was in his kitchen around 4:30 this morning when he opened the package and it exploded. >> police do not know if it was a freak accident or intentional. here's chief inspector scott small. >> initial information from the victim's roommate was that he opened up a package i received in the mail about 5:00 p.m., on friday. the package was delivered monday. 5:00 p.m. monday package was delivered. victim didn't open the package until sometime before 4:00 a.m. and there was an explosion, when the package was opened. >> now the man was taken to jefferson where he is list in the stage condition, thankfully no one else hurt, the roommate and ten people levying nearby were evacuated due to safety concerns, but police have determined that there is no further threat. so, those folks have been allowed to return to their

>> well, rahel, jim, still very active scene here, even hours after this explosion, take a look, philly bomb squad taking the lead on this with help from ats as well as us postal inspectors and the fire marshall's office. they're all down there sent earned around first floor apartment. right there, near the corner every 18th and pine. police say a 52 year old man had received a package in the mail, yesterday, around 5:00 p.m. decided to open it this morning, and when he opened it, it exploded. police are saying he had cuts to his hands, and he was transported to jefferson, where he remains in stable condition. earlier, this morning, we got an update from chief inspector scott small, who told us what could possibly be the cause of this explosion. >> but at this time they don't know whether or not there was intentional explosion. in other words, we don't know whether this was a bomb mailed to the house in order to explode and do injuries or whether this was some sort of frein accident where something

like an inhaler just exploded. >> so, police again, are saying that possibly could have been medication that the man received in the mail. that somehow just exploded, in the box, when he opened it. the man's roommate, 36 year old man, was able to call for help for him. he was evacuated as well as some of the neighbors that live nearby. but those folks were allowed to return home as police have determined that this is not a threat to the public. some good news, though, for commuters, as they starting to to work, these streets around this area are being opened back up. nineteenth street will be open shortly. but pine, between 18th and 19th, will remain closed as this investigation continues. that's the story here, for now, liver in center city, i'm trang do, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> trang, very good news indeed, that area is normally pretty bus. >> i exactly. also, father of four is thanking group of philadelphia police officers that helped save his family from an

overnight blaze in frankford. the fire broke out around 2:00 this morning in the 4800 block of mulberry street. we're told it started in the garage then quickly spread to the rest of the house. the family of six managed to escape the flames with the help of four officers who ran through the home making sure everyone was out safely. a 14 year old girl is in stable condition, after she was struck by a stray bullet in her grandmother's home. this happened just after 6:00 last night on the 4400 block of brass street logan. police say she was in the kitchen, when a stray bullet went through the wall and struck her leg. they believe the shooting could be connected to another shooting that occurred earlier in tioga. bank robber remains on the loose in southwest philly. police and the fbi are looking for this man, they say, he robbed beneficial bank in the 6400 block of woodland avenue yesterday morning. he handed the tell area note demanding money, with the cash, ran off. anyone with information should call police. just couple every days ago before the big retail kick off

on thanksgiving day. so what can we do to make it through the big meal without feeling sore bye it after? >> one of the first things, believe it or not, eat slowly t takes about a half hour from the time we eat to the time our brain release as chemical that says we're full. so we want to eat slowly. enjoy people's talk. also, lighten the load with the meal. so, for example, those mashed potatoes -- mashed potatoes that have butter, cream, my butter, instead of that maybe use greek yogurt, really good, mix it in, there healthy, and not as many calories. average person gains a pawn during thanksgiving, yes. that's one of the things, other things we can do instead of the extra butter being sometimes in the baked foods, sweet apple sauce, always good. lot of things we can do to lighten the load. the other thing we opportunity do also is avoid the seconds. you know, jeong plate, that's it. one plane, that's t it is good the next day or later on, avoid the second.

don't forget alcohol has a lot of calories. may want to try a non-alcoholic cider or beverage really good to try. >> now, what if you have anything tummy trouble while eating? >> one of the biggest things of course besides eating slowly don't lie down within two hours after a meal. a lot of times sit down, ugh, watch the football game. then we start having second meal when it comes back up. we want to stand up, or sit for at least two hours, take a walk for half hour. that really helps us. also, loosen the belt a little bit. oh, ya, we're doing really good. but it forces some of the food back. so loosen the belt. take a walk. sit up, stand for awhile. that will help. >> if you say so, doctor, follow doctors orders. now i personally will not be cooking, my family is very appreciative of that. but if you are cooking you say there are some basic precautions you can take as far as making the meal? >> yes. so the biggest thing things that need to be called, keep cold.

things that need to be hot, keep hot. when you are making the meet, don't mix the turkey in the same plate as the other ingredient. other thing when cooking turkey use a thermometer. we want to make sure all of the areas are at least 165 degrees, and we usually check the thigh, the inside, another thing, we don't cook really try not to cook stuffing inside the turkey. the reason being, all of the gravy and all of the juices from the turkey, drain inside the cavity go into the stuffing. a loft times the stuffing doesn't reach the temperature high enough to kill that bacteria. so, cook the stuffing separately, and then put it on a dish and then people enjoy it. then all done, store all of the food in small flat containers this way they can cool thoroughly. we want to eat leftovers within three days, if not, put them in the freezer. >> the best. i want to follow back to one thing. if you are having maybe some stomach troubles, having indigestion, anything you can do to minimize that? >> yes, a loft times like antacids will help us, want to use that, i'm big fan of champ owe meal tee with little ginger.

sometimes we eat too much, we get queezy, sprinkle little bit every ginning nerve chamomile tea, zip it, it helps us a lot. >> doctor rob, very good advice, i don't know if it is advice that we wanted to hear, but good advice. >> still have a great meal. and our great cook. look at everything you made here. >> oh, this is your work, you know that. >> well, i have to admit, sweet potatoes, all the of the sweetened potatoes, all of the sugar in there, these are big, little olive oil, little cinnamin on, really good. if i don't say so myself. and so you may want to try a little bit later. >> cannot wait to eat this. doctor rob, thank you. happy thanksgiving. and we will be right back with three to go.
