right now at 11:00, traveling for the holidays. crowded highways, it's packed at the airport and waiting patiently for trains as many enter their thanksgiving destination once you get to your destination, are you playing by the rules? the dos and don'ts of turkey day. the simple steps you can take to make sure thanksgiving goes smoothly. we're tracking wet weather headed our way. it could bring us showers on thanksgiving day.

we're keeping a close eye on the forecast as a lot of people will still be hitting the roads tomorrow. fans will be attending high school football games. good evening, i'm ukee washington >> i'm jessica dean. kate bilo is tracking the system and timing out when we could see rain. >> we actually saw showers try to push into our region earlier tonight. good news is these really kind of fell apart once they got over philadelphia. looked pretty robust over lancaster county. this area has pretty much fallen part. few sprinkles left over north and east of allentown. few stray flurries as well. as we widen out. you can see this storm has a lot with it. that was a warm front. that portions of western ohio that's what will be tomorrow. this is breaking up as well. don't expect this to be a complete wash-out of a thanksgiving, that's the good news. you could be dodging rain drops at any time through thanksgiving

holiday. temperatures 45 in philadelphia. 42 wilmington, one thing i'm concerned about is the mount poconos area where it's below freezing, any stray shower that pops up overnight could ice over on a few spots. it's not a big deal but we have the chance of light freezing rain, few isolated slick spots. take it slow if you're going to be out early if you're on bridges and overpasses. tomorrow morning another batch of showers tries to push in. we'll time the rest of this out for your thanksgiving holiday and talk about what's coming up for rest of the holiday weekend. for now, jessica back over to you. >> thanks. some people are still on the move hoping to get to their thanksgiving destinations on time. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff is live at a busy 30th street station, where many had to pack their patients today, alex? >> reporter: you know, it has calmed down a bit. trains still running about an hour behind.

some of them at least still far less from what we were seeing earlier. the people we spoke with they made the best of it. amidst announcements about daunting delays, calls from mom >> i was like mom, i'm going to stay here and see what happened >> peculiar sound rang out from a bench in 30th street station. these women a laughing. this leashly attitude was helping to soothe the fact that like the crowd around her. her train was running hours behind. from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. all trains operating through delaware were set to a standstill after a trespasser was struck and killed by a regional train in wilmington. that line was restored but the backlog meant that wait times persisted throughout the region and through the already

were checking in. many people allowed extra time in case they encountered long lines. >> good news for people hitting the roads this thanksgiving holiday. triple a says more than 89% of thanksgiving travelers will be driving spurred in part by lower gas prices. prices are the second lowest for the thanksgiving holiday since 2008. the national average for a gallon of regular is 2.13. in pennsylvania it's 2.36. new jersey, 2.21, and delaware, 2.11. not everyone is ready to serve turkey and all the fixings. last minute shoppers are out in full force, the wegman's on route 70 in cherry hill was very busy. many supermarkets expected the rush and were stocked and ready to go. shoppers were looking to cross items off their list >> i picked up a ham, stuffing, marked potatoes and gravy. couple veggies and a pumpkin my.

>> store managers tell us thanksgiving is among the top five busiest days of the year it was difficult for last minute shoppers to buy liquor and wine in pennsylvania be that's because the credit card system at the state run wine and spirits stores went down for a short time this afternoon. workers had to put up a cash only sign to warn customers. the pennsylvania liquor control board says the credit card system was overloaded and had to be reset. new developments tonight in the hit-and-run death of an 8-year-old in philadelphia's overbrook neighborhood. as police released a photo key to the investigation, the community came together tonight to mourn and call for justice. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt has more. >> reporter: close to 100 angry but determined philadelphians marched down 63rd street before rush hour hoping to find jayanna's powell killer. the 8-year-old was hit and

killed at 63rd and lansdowne last friday afternoon. her killer just drove off as if nothing happened. >> this is the spot my daughter died at. it's hard. >> reporter: her mother and her family members have spent the last week looking for her killer. while attempting to mourn the loss of such a young life. >> anybody that met her fell in love with her, she was smart, intelligent, wanted to be a lawyer. she was wonderful. >> reporter: police released this surveillance photograph wednesday night of the silver nissan ultima or maxima. they believed this is the car that hit and killed the 8-year-old. >> where, folks, that everybody here our pain. let's go. >> that's captain joseph of the 19th district. a man who's passionate about this case >> if dhoins shake you to the bones i don't know what will. you see how galvanized this community is. we're working every lead. there will not be a stone unturned >> jayanna's family is counting

haley says she's accepting to be the u.s. ambassador to the united nations. the president-elect praised governor haley saying she has a proven track record of bringing people together. haley was an out spoken trump critic through the much of the presidential race. >> also betsy devos to head the department of education. betsy devos is a school are choice activity, trump met with her over the weekend. she chairs the american federation for children, a group that promotes charter school education. also served on the board of the foundation for excellence. and ben carson is in the running to be the next secretary of housing and urban development. he got on social media to say an announcement is forthcoming about his role. carson said he wants to make a contribution to the inner cities. . president-elect trump delivered a thanksgiving message to the nation tonight. >> it's my prayer that on this

authorities say a forest fire in reading appears to have been intentionally set. take a look at this video provided by reading magazine. pennsylvania department of couldn'tser vacation and natural records calls the monday night fire suspicious. there were no injuries or damages to homeowners businesses but the fire did score. 47 acres of forest. with the thanksgiving holiday upon us, police across the region are on the look-out for drunk drivers. cherry hill police say they have eight extra dui patrols on the roads through the weekend. regular patrol officers will be searching for suspected drunk drivers >> it's not just about the people going to the bars and deciding to potentially drink and drive, it's about the other people on the roadway. it's important that we're out there for everyone's protection. >> chief monday began also said

music. hot chocolate and candy canes. not all that cold out there. and temperatures are going to be seasonal. here's a look at damage we'll take you thorough a time laps video. most of today was completely sunny and dry. it was a beautiful day. just the a sunset, watch what happens, the sun starts to dip below the horizon. the clouds come in, we don't get to see the sun drop and the clouds are still in place. tonight it's currently 42 degrees at the palmyra cove nature park, which a whole lot milder than it was at this time last night by virtue of the clouds moving in. clouds act almost like a blanket when you sleep keeps you warmer at night. doesn't allow the radiation escape into the atmosphere as quickly. that's why we're seeing temperatures not quite as bad. we do have snow showers moving through the poconos, not a big deal.

mostly pushing north and west. and clear air between the warm front lifting to the north and cold front moving to the west. most of us are out of the woods precipitation wise until the shower comes in and that will be late morning tomorrow. temperatures, again not too bad. if we do see any stray showers, most will be straight rain, not going to freeze on contact unless you're in the poconos. again, most these are already starting to move out. right now, 45 at the airport, 42 in wilmington. and 42 degrees down in dover delaware. a chilly night but certainly not as cold as last night. we hit the freezing mark for the first time this season. tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. showers start to push in from the west. notice this front lost a lot of its moisture and a lot more rain with it over the midwest. just a few scattered showers for us. there may be some spots across the region tomorrow that don't so he any wet weather at all, so there's good news, doesn't look like a wash-out for thanksgiving. the fronts clears the area during the day friday. lingering clouds.

not going to be the brightest black friday but it does look to stay generally dry with a chance for stray shower. thanksgiving breakdown, out early, heading to one of those high school football games, 41 at 8:00 a.m. mostly cloudy. by noon low 50's. best chance for could believe showers around the noon and 3:00 p.m. hours and we'll try to clear out around 6:00. best chance for rain this stretch is tomorrow, thursday, friday, 20% chance for a stray shower, looks like saturday and sunday rain-free. tonight 37, clouds increasing since this evening and will stay cloudy. couple of showers otherwise, mostly cloudy, wouldn't be shocked to see a few breaks of sun especially early in the morning, again, not a total wash-out. but little bit gray thanksgiving. 55 on friday, the weekend is cooler but dry with sun, and we head back to work and school on monday. beautiful day with lots of sunshine and high of 53. all in all, pretty great
