and a happy thanksgiving, it is almost time, for a parade, down the parkway, this is a live look at the start of the route, 20th and jfk with festivities kicking off later this morning. this is a live look at south philadelphia, home of the thanksgiving day tradition, we will check in there as they use their pizza ovens to cook hundreds of turkies for their neighborhoods. how about a live look at storm scan three, showing rain, katie's here with your holiday forecast. the it is thursday, november the 24th, good morning i'm joe holden in for jim donovan. i'm rahel solomon. meisha's off. lets start the day with weather, hi there. >> the big reveal, good

morning. >> yes, drum roll. >> to kidding. >> yeah. >> nice welcome. a lot of people are up getting ready for festivities and we are here to if it is last minute errands to get you out the door. it is on the damp side across pennsylvania. maybe just getting your holiday travel started. we will show you what is happening here. a huge, storm scan to kick is off. we have a storm system here beginning to make its advance. at the moment, the localized zoom is outside our area we had a freak of wet weather rolling through our western most suburbs yesterday evening but now you we are waiting on the actual cold front and storm system to pass through. for now temperatures aren't terrible. we are in the upper 30's or 40's, face value does not sound that awful but make sure to beat temperatures in the lower 30's and feeling more like 20's and teens in recent mornings here. while i would suggest the heavy coat walking out the door here if you have to, it is not awful that harsh to

you. thirty-six in quakertown. thirty-five at pottstown. we are in the upper 30's in both willow grove and doylestown and palmyra. the as day progresses we can expect toe again a couple of showers. not prettiest thanksgiving day forecast we have ever even but more nuisance then anything. couple of showers is something we can handle. we do really need the rain at this point as we all i think very well known ad nauseam it is something i have been telling new recent days here but it is just not a heavy rain produce they are time around. watch for a couple showers, 53 appease in philadelphia as well as down near shore points. pretty typical weather for our area and pretty typical weather. the up in the mountains expect potential for rain to freeze, on contact. ground is cold enough at this point. in the morning there may be some slick spots especially if it hasn't been treated and i wouldn't be spot if a lot of spots have not been treated. if that is where your travels take you, just take it easy. joe and rahel, it looks like a

nuisance system for our area, more than anything. back to you. >> it ace philadelphia tradition, annual thanksgiving parade now in the 97th year. >> ninety-seven year, wow. thousands will line up to see marching band, cartoon balloons and floats make their way through the city. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao is live along the parade route. we hear that you are staking your spot out early, good morning. >> reporter: yes, rahel and joe, good morning. happy thanksgiving. no company out here right thousand but it is only 4:30. we're expecting huge crowd today as always, 97 years, isn't that magnificent. this was the first thanksgiving day parade in the entire nation and this is where fun starts at 8:30 this morning. this is start of the parade route at 20th and jfk and it is just about an hour now those huge magnificent balloons, this is where they will be inflated. i think just down there in yellow, we have some balloon hand letters already on the scene, so we're sure they are

handling curious george. we're talking about favorites like tweetie bird, cat in the hat, grinch, mr. potato head and all of the the other balloons in this years parade. here's how you get a better look at them. we're the start of the parade route at 20th and jfk. once the parade kicks off at 8:30 these balloons, floats and performers will make their way along a 1.4-mile route. parade first travels east to 16th street and then north, to the parkway and then finally end at art museum and eakins oval. so hopefully weather holds up here because thanksgiving day parade is so much fun for the kid, for families and the like and it is the oldest thanksgiving parade in the nation. we will have so many floats, marching band, other performers and celebrities, too. celebrities performers both regionally and across the country and biggest celebrity of all, and the parade and that is santa claus. we will be here to cover it all but for now we are live, jan carabao for cbs-3

tradition is macy's thanksgiving day parade and this morning new york city police department is making sure people that show up to watch are safe. to secure the parade dump trucks full of sand will be blocking intersections and police will not allow cars, to cross the parade route for the first time, in 90 years. >> you can ram a new york city sanitation truck sand truck with a lot of things but you will not move it the. >> reporter: there is a public showing, to anyone who might be thinking about doing something that they are being watched, and resources are available. >> reporter: transportation hubs across the country are also, on heightened alert. in other news this morning police respond to the scene of the triple shooting just after midnight, in juniata park. the shooting happened in the the 4,000 block of howland street. three victims were taken to the hospital, all are in stable condition, authorities have no other information, at this time. a 21 year-old man is in the hospital this morning after being shot, three times, in north philadelphia, authorities the say that four shots were fired, in the 1500

block of west diamond street, just before 11:00 last night. this victim is in stable condition, authorities have not made any arrests at this time. philadelphia police released a picture of the car they believe was involved in the deadly hit and run in philadelphia's overbrook neighborhood. now nearly 100 people marched down 63rd street calling for justice, for jayanna powell. she was hit and killed at 63rd and lansdowne last friday afternoon. police are looking for a silver nissan altima or maxima, the car should have front end damage. >> please don't shake it to the bones i don't know what will. youe how galvanized this community is to stick together. we are working every lead. there will not be a stone unturned. >> if you know something, you can't say that you don't know nothing. >> there is a $20,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of jayanna's killer. if you have any information, recognize that car, you are asked to call the police.

illegal immigrant from honduras is facing charges for alleged sexual assault of a 12 year-old girl in bucks county. three three-year old jorge ra mayores is in the bucks county prison on one million-dollar bail. ramirez befriended the girl attending services at redemption episcopal church in southampton. ramirez had sexually assaulted that girl more than a dozen times in his car over past month and that there could be more victims. so up next, what police and investigators are saying about a forest fire earlier this week in berks county. also a wounded atlantic city police officer returns to the hospital where he spent weeks, we will show you how the staff greeted him. a live look at 20th and jfk, the start of the thanksgiving day parade route, and katie has your holiday forecast, and that is coming up next when we come right

street lamps we see here outside pleasant valley middle and high school it looks like there was a hint of wet weather that held through there and certainly radar is at least confirming that through yesterday evening we ended up with a few showers from the warm front with the storm system. yesterday, if you follow us or watch us religiously we love that about you. thank you fortuning in. this storm system looked a lot more organize. this storm is beginning to lose a little bit of the steam as it starts to cross our area. we will end up with showers but nuisance variety. the leaves behind a few damp roads and that is it. even if you didn't want to take an umbrella on traveling today like i am i think you can getaway without it here. storm scan wider zoom nice and quiet beyond that point but places that had to deal with snow, ice yesterday, you have since cleared out and it is colder in minnesota for example. but we will see a hint of the chillier couple days coming up down the road here. lets look at northeast travels. we will time this out for you, yeah, not that impressive,

guys. this might be a little under done but regardless you are traveling to i80 if there are a couple showers they are few and far between and that is worst of our worries today. there could be a stray sure tomorrow this storm is trying to retait away. i don't want to discount that possibility but again, it is going to be a lackluster storm system for our area as it stand right new. let's have some fun, out in corn cope use in wisconsin, 38 d high. cranberry pennsylvania, one of my favorites, best signs that we have on thanksgiving, 40 degrees. turkey, north carolina checks in at just shy of 70. we will take you to a couple of other fun towns, pie towns might be my absolute favorite 47 the spec high there and out in, gn theaw bone, indiana, that is a place, folks, 50 degrees a potential high. i'm already getting a rap so we will jump to the seven day. mid 50's for next couple of days, tad cooler on sunday.
