hug. then something unexpect happened. >> later that night at work, he came to the house and gave my wife an envelope and said, opened it up, right and there was a check for $5,000 in it. >> reporter: jim who wished to remain a none news said he wanted to grant chase a wish to go to disney world. gilchrist family is thrilled. >> to see that was amazing to me. i'm still in shock. >> reporter: nice man, what would you say to him. >> i would say thank you. happy thanksgiving. >> reporter: this is my favorite part of it, we went to the house and spoke to his wife. he didn't want to be on camera. she said she didn't know anything about this check. he came home, talked about the sweet little boy. i said is he in trouble forgiving that money away? he is not in trouble. sometimes he likes to play santa claus. live, i'm cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". what a wonderful story, cleve. now that the thanksgiving dinner is done in many

locations many people are engaging in another holiday tradition. it is shopping. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff joins us from the cherry hill mall where shoppers are looking to snap up all of the meals and steals. hi there alex. >> reporter: hi, ukee. according to national retail federation six in zero americans are going to shop this who will take weekend. last year they spent an average of $300. take a look, doors have finally opened up here at cherry hill mall. that happened at 6:00 o'clock. but some retail are and department stores did open up a bit earlier, customers at the jc penny, they wrapped around the cherry hill, mall and they know that is huge they were waiting to get in for that 3:00 o'clock opening. half of the people we spoke with said that this is become a part of their holiday tradition, coming out, on thanksgiving, to shop, and then the other half told us, that you know what they are just sneak ago way from the dinner table to to a bit of quick shopping and then head back to hang out with family. other shoppers inside earlier told us that they were

3 miles an hour. calm wind down the shore at 52 e poconos. 34 degrees. and, back side of the cold front. storm scan three showing us a majority of the precipitation is well into the i-95 corridor. we did have some showers, and toward poconos and period of the freezing rain but most of the precipitation concentrate add long the coast, seeing very light shower activity sprinkle activity stretching from atlantic city in ocean city, sea isle city and avalon. you might need umbrella briefly in these places over next hour or so. poconos, carbon, monroe starting to clear out as well. we did see that flash of pink indicating some kind of mixed precipitation, over last three hours, but now conditions drawing out there as well. as far as rainfall totals for sprinkle activity not all too much. these are highest numbers, nazareth picking up .3 of an inch, .1 of an inch in oxford with the rain today. as we head in the evening hours isolated sprinkle or shower, again along the coast tonight, dry conditions, not too chilly, only falling back

in the the 30's. and for tomorrow a few passing showers but all together a mainly dry day for most of the us. we will talk about what to expect for your black friday forecast, holiday weekend and pretty good shot at rain coming up in the full forecast in just a few,e key. >> thank you. opening up a piece of mail severely wounded a man on tuesday. tonight as police continue their search for person behind the package bomb, our greg argos spoke to the victim about the ordeal and his recovery. >> sixty year-old jim aldennis now recovering after opening up a package, which exploded in his hand. and with no rest, he tells me, that he is beautiful and he could be targeted again. talking by phone from an undifficulties leased location 50 year-old jim alden said his chest and face are bruised and cut from shrapnel placed sign aid mail bomb which exploded in his hand. >> we don't know this type of shrapnel but there is some type of shrapnel that caused injuries. >> reporter: he says his left ring finger also severed, and

most serious of his injuries. this all happened in his pine street apartment near 18th street at 4:00 tuesday morning. catering returning home from a trip, opening up a package he says was designed to look identical to medication that he regularly received in the mail. >> we will bring every resource to bear, to try to figure out what actually happened here. this is not something we see every day in our city here, so i assure you, no expense will be spared and we will use every available resource to try to identify the person responsible for this violent crime. >> reporter: that is atf special agent in charge sam rapadi tuesday, he is leading search for the suspect but still no arrests. as for a motive jim alden says he has no clue why someone was wouldn't to target him and this thanksgiving he is just glad to be alive. reporting here from center city, i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". policing looker for whoever opened fire on three

men putting up christmas lights in juniata park. it happened in the 4,000 block of howland street around 10:45 last night. victim's say a dark gray chevy impala with tinted windows stopped, several inside, asked if the men putting up lights had hit their car. they exchange word, passenger opened fire and car then drove off, three men were taken to temple hospital with gunshot wound, and they are in stable condition. giving back for thanksgiving is what the the holidays is all about. >> these people put their life on the line for us, and they are down on their luck and we're just going to help him out. how strangers are make to go day a memorable one for a special group of people, also, a holiday tradition returns, the new addition to check out, at the popular christmas village. leslie. the eagles continue to prepare for the packers, and monday night showdown at link, and of course thanksgiving, meets high school foot paul, lots of high school football, playoff time we will take you to most heated rival wrist in

some developing news to tell but a two-year old boy is in critical condition after being shot in the stomach. in north philadelphia. it happened after 4:00 this afternoon on the 3500 block of thort ninth street. police say that the boy and his four year-old cousin were playing with the gun, in the living room, when the older cousin accidentally shot the younger boy. the boy's mother and boyfriend were home at the time, police have the gun, so far, no charges have been leveled. and in camden a group of hairdressers gave part of their thanksgiving to get haircuts. vittoria woodill shows us how lucky recipients were. >> started out as just doing a

moderate heavy rainfall. the just sprinkle activity around atlantic city, ocean city, sea isle city as well as it will head into the next hour. best part of the weather is well north of us seeing snowfall across upstate new york, milk precipitation as well, we did have a few period of freezing rain up this is poconos earlier this evening but as we head in the next several hours, precipitation is going to clear on out by midnight, no problems overnight tonight, very quiet, but as we head into tomorrow morning we could see breaks in the cloud deck for first half of the day, as we head into tomorrow afternoon and into the evening hours, we will see mostly cloudy conditions overtake our side once again but holiday travel not looking too bad over next several days. for tonight that chance of the shower well east of the city, tomorrow, a passing shower is possible again light in intensity but we will see cloud around and then into saturday some sunshine, breezy conditions but all together not too bad driving conditions as we head in the upcoming weekend. and tomorrow, temperatures not all too bad heading out to the

car and heading out to the mall to do maybe early christmas shopping or maybe just some shopping for yourself. 50 degrees is the temperature at 11:00. 3:00 we are at 55. fifty-two by 5:00 o'clock hour. we have a temperature reading in the area due to the slow moving cold front a head of that temperatures still up in the 50's. fifty-four in rehoboth beach. fifty-two in cherry hill. as we move north and west we will see these temperatures starting to drop down, 46 degrees right the now in malvern, and even chillier up toward lehigh valley, 43 in allentown and we're in the 30's right now in the poconos and overnight tonight though, temperatures are going to warm up in some places, like the poconos, cloud deck really stays in place. i-95 corridor will be in the upper 30's to lower 40's. as far as averaging are concerned we should be down in the 40's. not too chilly. again not too chilly but you will need layers heading out to the eagles game, taking on the green bay packers at the lincoln hon evening. 45 degrees. and no wet weather concerns just crystal clear sky
