situation, and, placed under control. good afternoon i'm jessica dean. aim ukee washington. police shot and killed the attacker. officials identity higham as abdul razak ali artan a somalia born legal u.s. resident and, osu student. >> it is still a very active situation. >> reporter: police swarmed campus of the ohio state university in columbus as word gout on the an attack at the hall which laoss the department of materials, science and engineers. the first reported as a shooting, police say a more complex picture of the attack, emerged. >> male suspect drove vehicle over curb at the west 19th, west of college avenue, struck pedestrians. he then exited the vehicle and used a butcher knife to start cutting pedestrians. our officers was on the scene in less than a minute and he event situation. >> reporter: authorities a ten people were quickly transported to hospitals. >> there were multiple injuries related to lacerations or cuts. and most likely as the chief

said from the stab wound, from butcher knife. then there were a number of people that had orthopedic and other soft tissue injuries related to the car. >> reporter: suspect was shot and killed by police checking out reports have the gas leak at that location. a witness took this graphic photo of the fallen suspect with police being standing nearby. state, local and federal officials are working very hard with the university personnel to learn more about the suspect and a motive. terrorism has not been ruled out. >> we will continue to work with the students, faculty, staff to make this the safees lays we can make it. >> reporter: school and law enforcement agree that the quick actions of the the first responders may have saved many lives. classes at ohio state university were cancelled for the day, following the incident, it is unclear when classes will resume. green party presidential candidate jill stein is asking a pennsylvania court to order a recount of the state's presidential election results. that is unclear right now if the courts have the authority to order a recount, and

secretary of state says that there is no evidence of voting irregularities, or sign's tax on electronic voting machines. president-elect trump edged hillary clinton out in pennsylvania by 71,000 votes. our david spunt is working on the story and will have more on the recount effort at 5:30. authorities in wilmington are investigating shooting of a five-year old boy, he got on the school bus, he was waiting for and then realized he was shot. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh is live in wilmington with more on this, anita. >> reporter: well, jessica a spokesmen for the school bus company tells me that all of the students got on the bus and then shortly after notified the driver when they realized that one of them had been shot. that is when paramedics were able to treat the 15 year-old boy who is now recovering at the hospital from multiple gunshot wounds. >> it is sad, it the is disgusting. you know, holidays, it is will holiday season. >> reporter: just before 7:00 neighbors near 2700 block of north van buren street woke up to gunfire.

>> gun shots, little pop, pop, pop, pop. >> my husband was in his truck. he said get behind the car, get behind the car. i was frozen. >> reporter: bullets hit a 15 year-old boy in the left arm and abdomen area while waiting at the bus stop. >> it sounded like five or six shots rang out and then suddenly these kid come up the street. >> reporter: officials say gunshot victim is a ninth grade student at john dickinson high school. >> he has a good record at the school and that he is well known by staff, and that, you know, that everyone is just, pulling for him, today. >> reporter: eyewitnesses describe seeing at least one shooter with a white mask opening fire and then running off, now neighbors say more need to be done to protect students. >> we have had some concern about their safety, so we finally have, stop sign put up, and that won't stop a bullet. >> reporter: now with the results of the incident school district officials plan to launch a program called corner to corner on tuesday instead

the nation's capitol is getting in the holiday spirit. capitol christmas tree arrived in washington this morning after traveling, 4,000 miles, in three weeks, from idaho. the 80-foot spruce, is from national forest. the tradition of putting a live christmas tree on the capitol lawn began in 1964. that tree came from a nursery in berks county. since 1970 the capitol christmas tree has been picked from a national or state forest. tree lighting ceremony will take place next tuesday. very, very special day here on cb. 36789 we are kicking off our annual toy fest, toys collect throughout the season will make the holiday bright for

this moisture being pulled from the gulf. also a lot of warmth being pulled in from the gulf as well and we're talking about temperatures in the 60's, we will not get a whole lot chance to enjoy that because it comes with a risk. heaviest rain is still back across western ohio. we will still have decent real estate between this system and our area. it doesn't expect to get in here until overnight hours or early tomorrow morning. rest of tonight eagles game, we are fine but mostly cloudy but by 4:00 tomorrow morning we will see that rain pushing in the western suburbs, and then it is an all day event, on and off rain, it is not pouring every where, all day, it does look like heaviest from the city north and west in the morning but then, in the afternoon, rain gets heavier and over went the entire area. this is 11:00 a.m. continues on and off through afternoon hours. even chance for a live thunderstorm. rumble of thunder possible tomorrow, near 6:00 p.m. starts to move out. you think we're done. then we have a secondary storm late morning on wednesday and it will continue on and off

throughout wednesday morning, and perhaps another round, late wednesday night. so this does not look like it lets up for a while. two storms. two waves have rain over next two days. what to expect tomorrow morning, widespread fog, reduced visibility, wind pick up, expect a slow morning commute, slow afternoon commute and probably a slow wednesday morning and afternoon commute as well. we are looking at a storm total rainfall of an inch or so with higher amounts possible to the north and west. few areas could pick up over 2 . here's why that is good news. we have had .42 inches have rain and only three days with measurable rainfall. we pick up a trace, and not more than 2 inches below average for the month. so we do need it. dry conditions, means we will not be looking at any major flood threat. just a rainy day, breezy. 64 degrees. there will be a chance for isolated thunderstorm. you're witness weather three day forecast, wednesday near 70 degrees, don't expect to break out shorts and

dangerous. >> i know, this is crazy but true. seat belts are meant to protect us in car crashes, but for some drivers they can be harmful, for small people, and for drivers, ages 85 and older, they are nine times more likely per mile driven to be hurt in the crash. chest injuries are most common and they are linked to seat belts. >> i remember sitting there and my body was just flipping back and forth. >> reporter: she ended up in a neck brace after a jeep backed into her car, seat belts kept her in the seat the but researchers believe it may have contributed to her concussion, and back injuries. >> i realize the window or something the way i was moving around. had i not had it on but didn't do what i thought it would. >> reporter: seat belt she and rest of us used was in the designed for 60 year-old's 5-foot four frame. researchers a the ohio state are using crash tests to study amount of force needed to protect those with more
