thanks very much. reward for information in the deadly hit and run of the eight year-old girl is growing, she was hit and killed in overbrook early this month. "eyewitness news" reporter joe holden is live in overbrook with the case and her mother's plea for justice. >> reporter: gentlemen, good evening. this is intersection behind me where eight year-old jayanna's powell's life came to a tragic event and there are two rewards to speak of, one from the fop for $15,000. that would come immediately after information was turned over, to police leading to an arrest. also the city now stepping up with a 10,000 will dollars reward of its own. philadelphia police officials embraced distraught jayanna powell's parents, eight year-old girl killed in the hit and run. >> i want to talk to the person who hit my daughter. >> reporter: struggling and holding back tears her mother, begged for the driver to surrender. >> it may have been an accident, i don't know. i just ask for you to turn

yourself in. i have to lay my baby to rest yesterday. the hardest thing in high life. >> reporter: jayanna was returning home from school hand and hand with her older brother november 18th when a silver nissan altima hit her at 63rd and lansdowne in overbrook. the driver, never stopped. >> the driver, your chance is now to come forward. >> reporter: visibly shaken police are now increasing public pressure, on the driver to turn him or herself in, captain patrick kelly says that the investigation is progressing, but the case is taking a toll on officers. >> i just don't necessity how this person, you know, how they are living with themselves. i wake up at 3:00 this is morning and wondering what did we miss on this case. >> reporter: in an unusual move fraternal order of police issued a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. >> bring them in today, paid today, let's give this family jayanna closure just come forward. now is your chance. give this family some closure.

one of the worst things anyone would have to live bias to bury their child. >> reporter: checked with my police sources a short time ago and they tell me stream of tips have come in, and, after this morning's news conference. but still no arrests yet in this case. we are live from overbrook, joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". deadly shooting of the 14 year-old boy sent shock waves of grief, through a northeast philadelphia community, and police continue to look for the killer. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh joins us with the latest on this investigation, anita. >> reporter: ukee, it was supposed to be a simple walk to the corner store to pick up chips, soda but last night a 14 year-old boy lost his life after he was gunned down in the middle of a mayfair street. >> i'm seeing his mom cry, brother cry and he is like he never cry, he is one of the tough dudes that never cry. i'm seeing him crying. i feel the same type of way. >> reporter: grieving friend

and family have more questions then answers after someone shot and killed iain willsy monday night. >> he pulled me aside and said your friend east an got shot. i'm like, i just couldn't not believe it. >> reporter: police say iain and a friend were walking to a corner store to buy chips when two men approached them near 6200 block, and one shot iain three times in the chest and stomach. >> it is a possibility there was a attempt robbery but also a possibility that maybe there was a prior conflict between these two groups. we just don't know. >> reporter: fourteen year-old was able to run a few feet before collapsing, paramedics rushed him to aria torresdale hospital where he later died and now authorities are reviewing security footage and talking to eyewitnesses to track down the people responsible. >> i have a 14 year-old child so i cannot start to understand the pain that the mother and father are going through right now. only thing i can say to them is high guys will do the best they can to bring the kill tore just advertise, in person.

>> reporter: at this time in word on a motive. there is very limited information, available on this suspect. we to know one of them was wearing dark colored clothing, the other one was wearing a beanie. meantime philadelphia police are offering a $20,000 reward for any information, leading to an arrest, which is standard procedure, in a homicide investigation, here, and anyone with any information is asked to call the tip line. live, from police headquarters, anita oh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". former wal-mart truck driver pleaded guilty to the the charges in the deadly new jersey turnpike crash that injured comedian tracie morgan two years ago. terms of the plea agreement will allow kevin roper to avoid jail time if he performs community service and satisfies other conditions over next few years. james mcnair died in the june 2014 crash. morgan and three others were hurt. new at 6:00 tonight there is a fight over this home in delaware county. swarthmore boro council are considering a proposal to allow it to be used as a

temporary residents for cancer patients and caregivers but some neighbors don't want that. our natasha brown talk to both side in the battle. >> we're standing right now on the welcoming porch of our hopefully secondary house location. >> reporter: if all goes as planned chill will be welcoming out of town cancer patientness need of i place to stay during their care at the local hospitals. this seven bedroom home and 200 south chester road in swarthmore would serve as free housing for seven patients and a care giver. >> there is 195 families a month in search of housing that are forced to leave comforts of their own home and their support community, to come here and in an effort for life saving measures. >> reporter: cheryl runs the non-profit head strong foundation in memory of her son nick, who was 19 when he passed away with cancer a decade ago. swarthmore boro granted approval for the accommodations but concerned neighbors say not so fast, and have filed an appeal.

cbs-3 "eyewitness news". new jersey governor chris christie says work will begin immediately on a complete renovation of the state house in trenton. the governor says staff will be moved in other office space by july in order to accommodate these four year, 300 million-dollar project. he says that the current conditions of the state house is quote shameful and that the state house has not had a major upgrade since 1958. >> i have been urging this to be done for years but i'm not going to leave here without it being done to leave the state house in this condition is embarrassment to the people of the state, it impacts health and safety of the people who work here and visit the here. >> parts of that building date back to the 18th century. owner of atlantic city's former revel casino is taking his battle with new jersey's gaming board to court. glenn straub is suing state casino control commission to get out of having to obtain a casino license in order to operate his new resort. in the lawsuit straub argues

>> demonstrators made their voices heard on thomas payne place in center sit in a call for action for wage increases and union rights. organizers say low wage workers walk off the jobs to participate in the protest in cities across the nation. ninety year-old woman walking from fort worth, texas to washington to raise awareness for special celebrations, made a stop in philadelphia today. "eyewitness news" caught up with miss lee in city hall as she's walking to get congress to sign into law a national day of observance for juneteenth, a celebration commemorating the abolition of slavery. >> forty-five states have it as a state holiday, and we think it ought to be a national holiday. so i thought it is already 90 years old, that i'm out there walking from texas to d.c., somebody would tell the president, and here i am invite me to come on over there. >> that is what i'm talking about. >> pennsylvania is 13th state on the miss lee's 1400-mile journey, she started to walk

september 1st, we will send her very best, great. lesson in problem solving for students at philadelphia charter school, they learned to control tiny robots. >> as meteorologist justin drabick shows us the students used math, computer programming skills to teach these robots to draw snow flakes. >> reporter: no two snow flakes are alike even when they are drawn by robots. today, students from the commonwealth chart's contacted hi participated in a unique hand on stem experience. >> we're trying to use computer to move from left to right, rotate, and make a snow flake. >> reporter: program used these robots to draw snow flakes based on the type of code that they wrote. >> it is kind of hard to do it because it would be exactly the same so you have to make sure that everybody understands it the. >> reporter: coding is used by computer programers, engineers, designers, but to take was used by middle and high school students to create the snow flakes. >> i bet engineers, all the time and they are like used to

it, and, and. >> reporter: robots were provided by bird brain technology they use pen to draw design, design determine by what code the student creates. every snow flake has its own unique structure. and it the is really great for students to use that creativity to say how do i see a snow flake, how do i come into this problem with my own approach and understanding of the program to make sure it works. >> reporter: to say they are learning stem skills now to help them after they graduate. >> i love seeing students connect to something that they are learning and figuring out, to help, and look at it and say i want to understand this. i want to solve this problem. then getting to the end and saying look what i just did. i just accomplished something that i could not do before. that is amazing. >> reporter: recent studies satisfaction learning about coding and computer programming in school is helping students have careers in science, technology, engineering and math the math tics, fields that are even more important for young girls

the action, worst has pushed off shore and now rain does not really resume in ernest, until mid-morning tomorrow. so that will allow things to dry out. that is why we are not concerned about much in the way of widespread flooding, it has been so dry and rain spread out over course of two days. so storm scan three shows what the situation is right now we are seeing showers moving out of the area, heaviest rain shifting off shore on storm scan three and in behind it a couple of showers still impacting the area there. they are light, spotty but you they are around. and we're seeing them all through the overnight hours, couple showers moving through. you can see here on center city camas well from the cbs-3 studios we have rain drops on the rooftop. if we can take you there you can see where showers are moving through portions of bucks, montgomery counties, chester county and these are moving out as well. even though there is a break in the action a secondary low will be moving through, tomorrow, and that will pre tuesday another round of rain. you can see a break, clear

skies, cross western pennsylvania and west virginia and here is our next storm though lifting to the north and east and will eventually get here again by mid to late morning tomorrow, when we expect another round, of scattered showers and some locally heavy downpours to move through. in the meantime it is mild at least 60 degrees in philadelphia. sixty-one in millville. dover 65 degrees right now. not that cold rain with temperatures in the 40's that we do see this time of the year. tonight expect those showers to continue through remainder of the evening, drying out for the most part overnight the but pockets of dense fog reduced visibility and slower than normal travel, the whole pattern, being driven by this parent storm over the great lakes and it is pulling in moisture from the gulf of mexico. that is causing the temperatures to rise and also, creating so much rainfall. so, clears out tonight, we will see some drying but then tomorrow you can see next round starts to move in by 10:00 a.m. we will see scattered showers some heavy. heavier rain to the north tomorrow afternoon and another round late tomorrow night at the actual cold front comes through, we can expect an
