placed a home hade bomb in front of the home at 18th and pine street on sunday, november 20th. the scene, one of the horror after 60 year-old jim alden opened what he likely thought was a prescription instead a bomb exploded in his face sending him to the hospital for multiple surgeries. police told "eyewitness news" that they believe their person of interest is asian, possibly a male or fee hail, late teens to late 20's. they showed the images to jim alden but say he does not the recognize the person or does not know what the motive could possibly be. still package was tropical off, and specifically addressed to alden, again, police said several times, that this was a targeted attack. >> this package was addressed to the victim. the device within that package was designed to be activated when the victim opened the package. it is still our belief with the evidence we have in front of us to take that this particular victim was targeted, and it was not a

random act of violence but a targeted act of violence. >> reporter: atf special agent in sign sam rapati it says he has been on the job for 16 years and they ever seen a bomb like this, specific bomb like this, homemade tea rise. we will delve into that at 6:00. also if you have any information, authorities are giving a reward up to $10,000 for any information, leading to the arrest and conviction of the the suspect in this case. reporting live from olde city, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". another big case we have been following, tonight in overbrook, a community is reacting to the arrest charged in the deadly hit and run of the eight year-old girl. police say suspect only lived about a few blocks from the scene of the crime, but they found the car in chester county. overbrook, no family members came to the door but that is a mile way from the hit/run scene on 63rd and lansdowne avenue. now thanks to this arrest the powell family may now get some closure after losing their eight year-old daughter jayanna for nearly two weeks they marched... they pleaded. >> to you have a heart, if you have a mine, a soul, just turn yourself in. >> reporter: now there may be justice for jayanna, eight year-old girl killed pie a hit and run driver in overbrook on november 18th. >> that was horrible what he did, irresponsible, callus. he had in regard for human life. >> reporter: johnny at kin on lived a few doors down from 24 year-old paul woodlyn, suspected driver of the silver nissan altima police say was involve in the hit and run. >> i saw him and car. >> reporter: even him driving it before. >> i seen him driving it before. >> reporter: on wednesday philadelphia police got a call from a and p body shop in frazier nearly 30 miles away

charging shoot to go death his mother and eight year-old brother near pittsburgh. police say teenager shot his mother and little brother as they slept wednesday morning and then called 911. he initially blamed the shooting on his father who was at work. police say teenager later confessed to the crimes. >> i know that is a question that is very difficult to wonder why you would shoot your mother and shoot your eight year-old brother? the only real conclusion that we could draw from some of our investigation was he just had a difference with his parents when it came to just maybe not getting a long with them that well. >> reporter: police say teenager also said he would have shot his father as well, had he been home. death of the two-year old boy in kensington is being investigated as a homicide that may have involved child abuse. officers found syair worrell unresponsive on the 600 block have of clementine street tuesday night. toddler later died at saint christopher hospital. police say child had injuries

to his ribs, liver and tested positive for thc, the chemical found in cannabis. we are learning new details this is deadly pursuit last night, speeding car crashed into several vehicles, killing a woman. cleve bryan is live in southwest detective with more on how this deadly crash unfolded, cleve. >> reporter: nicole, two brothers arrested after a shooting, but police say there is no cause for celebration today. >> absolute worst possibility, in terms of the the scenario for us. >> reporter: police chase that ended wednesday night with the death of an innocent bystander. >> woman died, tragically, and that is what we have to, and, that is person that tied, just before the holidays. >> reporter: just after 7:00 p.m., officers near forty-eighth and west minister reported hearing gunshots. >> they see a male who is running into a car, obviously they respond to that, and they start to chase that vehicle.

>> reporter: car wouldn't stop, until finally it crashed into several cars in the intersection of 52nd and locust. police arrested two men and recovered a gun but inside one of the damaged reek also was five five-year old car will ol eison from lebanon who died at the hospital from her injuries. family did not want to appear on camera live less than two blocks from the crime scene. >> i'm so sad about that because it shouldn't have happened. >> reporter: commissioner ross say pursuing a shooting suspect initiates the standard for a police chase. indication that officers had proper supervision and provided regular communication but ross say officers still face questions. >> there is a lot of things that involve discretion in these cases, so these are things that we want to look at. we want to listen to police radio tapes which will be obviously pulled to see whether or in the the there was talk have conditions, speed, and things like that. >> reporter: police say that the the two brothers will face several charges, including vehicular homicide, and they

a dramatic rescue at six police officers, saved a man from the burning reek will after a crash, just before thanksgiving. >> get them out, pull them away, go, come on. >> everybody getaway from the car. >> police, dash cam footage captured officers saving driver in connecticut. driver's legs were trapped underneath steering wheel after the door was jammed shut. amazingly that driver was released from the hospital the following morning with minor injuries. well, a tense standoff at a florida bank end with the safe removal of 11 hostages and suspect bank robber now in custody. this all unfolded just after 9:00 at community first credit

let's go into weather now and it is starting to feel like december, outside. we have clear skies, we have cleared out rain from yesterday, it has been a very wet stretch, the past couple days but you can see on storm scan three nothing right now. talk about a wet stretch. the city of allentown in particular has gotten hammered with rain over past couple of days, 4.46 inches have rain in allentown in the past five days, and that was one of the areas that was in the drought so they needed rain but it has been a very wet stretch. 51 degrees in philadelphia. forty-six in aforementioned allentown, 52 in atlantic city. lets look at the what is ahead over next couple days, pretty seasonal stretch for december. you can see cold air lurking to the north and west and more cold air will be moving in for tomorrow. tomorrow is colder then today. the high only 50 degrees. for saturday, sunny, brings being with highs only in the 40's and then clouds will increase a little bit heading into sunday, sunday will be down right chilly, but still

president-elect donald trump's thank you tour begins with the big win, mr. trump visits indiana plan where he negotiated a deal to save hundreds of american jobs from going to mexico. "eyewitness news" continues at 5:30. good evening everyone i'm ukee washington. i'm nicole brewer for jessica dean. president-elect trump visited carrier plant and delivered a message to other american companies thinking of moving jobs outside of this country. president-elect donald trump got a tour of the factory where he brokered a deal to keep 1,000 jobs in america. then he rallied with some of the workers around the plant. >> companies are not going to leave the united states anymore without consequences. >> reporter: according to fortune mr. trump personally called greg heyes, ceo of

cincinnati, it is first stop of his thank you tour that will also make stops in iowa and michigan next week. meantime recount of the presidential election results got underway in wisconsin today. donald trump defeated hillary clinton by less than a percentage point, recount was requested by green party candidate jill stein. she believes cyber hackers may have tampered with the vote. stein is also requesting recounts in pennsylvania, and in michigan. we are now getting an aerial look of aftermath of the wild fires near gatlinburg, tennessee thanks to drone video. fire torched hundreds of homes and businesses near great smokey mountains. crews say they are headaching significant progress in their search for survivors in the ruble. authorities have set up a hot line for people to report missing friends and relatives. seven people were killed in the fires, including alex haveler, her son spoke about her final moments. >> last phone call she made to her brother was the fact that she was really scared, frantic

on a special holiday addition of the doctors this morning right here on cbs-3, one letter to santa caught the attention of the philadelphia philanthropist. doctor travis stork surprised a young by named francisco with a $5,000 scholarship for college, thanks to the cal and lucy rudman's foundation. they heard about his gifts to go to a friend in need. scholarship money will get toward francisco's dream of becoming a scientists when he grows up. inch done a great job over the years.
