though you knew it was comingment temperatures right now, somebody freezing, really at all of the reporting sites across the area, 31 degrees right now in philadelphia. marking our coldest morning, of the season so far. twenty's in reading, same case lancaster, down to 29 degrees in ac. wind speeds up around 15 to 20 miles per hour, so we have the cold temperatures, and then we have those bitter winds on top of that. having big impact on the feels-like temperature right now, feeling like teens in the lehigh valley, same case berks county, teens down the shore, feeling like 21 degrees at this early hour in philadelphia. and it is really not going to get much better. we head through the day today for the 9:00 hour, 34 degrees, still bitter cold. windchills, even for your lunch hour, if you are stepping out, grab that sandwich. you're going to have to bundle up. all of the winter weather accessories feeling like 20's, air temperature up at 39 degrees, into the 5:00 hour, no impact precipitation wise, so the commute will be smooth, but the heat will be cranking, pat, in the car. 37 degrees, still blustery winds. >> cranking the heat?

i'm putting the windows down. come on. i love this weather. thank you, lauren. taking a look at the vine street expressway to start off this morning, they've just reopened westbound, so if you're headed from broad street to the schuylkill expressway, that has reopened. looks like eastbound, letting people on from the onramp, good thing, vine st. is now clearing. schuylkill, right here, schuylkill at the boulevard, no delays, if you're head in the this direction, nice, quiet, clean, comfortable morning here, on a friday. you have got to love. that will not so much here on the pennsylvania turnpike, looking eastbound, past downingtown, the right lane block there. due to some construction, also westbound, between delaware valley and willow grove. the right lane is blocked there. but it is not slowing anyone down as of right now. some things to look forward to on septa. some bussing, shuttle bussing, saturday and sunday, from 4:00 a.m. until 4:30 a.m. due to construction at jenkintown. keep an eye overall on the regional rail schedule. new one goes into effect sunday, so go to septa.org for more, guys, back over to you.

"eyewitness news" reporter anita oh, live from center sit which more on the season's first arctic blast. and i see your scarf on. i don't see gloves, anita. >> yes, greg, and jan, well, i am i probably should get them on. i got the fun assignment this morning, right? definitely biting chill in the air. seeing tons of people wrapped up in their scarfs, gloves, hats, and they're saying, you know, it was a relatively mild fall this past fall. but that is all changing now. take a look at some of the video we shot earlier this morning, of people walking around, they're definitely prepared for this colder weather. some we spoke to say they're actually ready for snow. which i'm not. i can veto that right now. but others say they're not so happy about the drop in temperatures. >> i got like a 15 minute walk. it is not that bad. but you're in the brisk cold

for cbs philly in the app store. >> police need your help identify ago driver who hit 12 year old boy in new castle, delaware, then sped off. police say the car you see in this surveillance video is red 2004 to 2010 chrysler 300, believed to be the one that hit the child on monday. police say the driver side mirror is missing. the passenger side mirror has yellow tinted glass, with chrome back, and if you have any information call the new castle county police. >> and in bucks county, police charge a man with murder after his mother's lifeless body is found inside her lower make feel home. an investigation is underway after police found 52 year old rebecca coke dead yesterday afternoon. police say it all began with a 911 call for a suspicious person wandering through the neighborhood. officers arrived and found 30 year old zachary coke, partially dressed, and appeared to have been in some sort of fight. >> police officers track him back down to 23 lower hilltop road where the police enter the home and they find his

mother dead in the kitchen floor. >> police say the disheveled man confessed to killing his own mother, and is being charged with murder. hundreds gathered for candlelight vigil last night to remember a new jersey straight trooper killed in a head-on crash. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt was there, as family and friends paid tribute to trooper franky williams. >> ♪ >> on a night dipping into the low 30's, trooper franky williams was the only thing on the mind of hundreds who came out. >> my son was a hero for the day since on the force, born february the 14th, he was my heart from that day. >> the late trooper's mother, victoria williams, thanked the crowd. the 31 year old was killed in a head-on crash earlier this week. >> i taught him the most important thing, is to love and share, but love everybody, and do your best.

>> williams was responding to call of erratic driver on five an in cumberland county. police say that driver later identified as 61 year old lloyd ruddily crossed the median, killing williams, and himself. >> that trooper is in heaven looking down upon us and saying don't worry, i'm okay. >> williams grew up in florida, but later called new jersey home. >> just absolutely senseless and terrible. >> ruth ann fox and her husband didn't know trooper williams, but felt compelled to come out and learn more about him. after hearing about the tragedy. >> i think it is a lot of questions that got to be answered. and why this, you know, this fellow crossed over the median strip, and what was going none his head. >> we may never know that answer. but, those who came out thursday night, are focused on honoring trooper franky williams, and the important impact he made in just 31 years. >> i love you and i love the

way he cares. i appreciate what you have done for me ... >> trooper williams was a newlywed. he leaves behind a widow. next month would mark one year on the state police force. reporting from millville, cumberland county, david spunt, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". and funeral plans for trooper williams have been scheduled. there is a viewing at boardwalk hall in atlantic city from 8:00 until noon monday, the first two hours are for friend and family, the second two hours are for law enforcement, then his funeral will begin at noon at boardwalk hall. >> supporters of convicted murderer, mumia abu-jamal, will hold rallies and mars today. the 35th anniversary of his arrest for the murder of philadelphia police officer, daniel faulkner. abu-jamal has been in prison since 1981. activists plan a day of action with a march from thomas payne plaza to the offices of pennsylvania governor tom wolf on south broad street. they want freedom for

abu-jamal who they say was unjustly convicted. they also claim abu-jamal is being denied medical treatment. >> 5:08. president-elect donald trump traveled travels to grand rapids michigan, fourth stop of his battle ground state thank you tour. thursday he made some appointments to his cabinet, president-elect tapped fast-food, ceo andrew puts err to serve as his labor secretary. and his rally at des moines iowa, mr. trump touted his selection of kerry brand stadias us ambassador to china. >> china who has been so tough, and so competitive, and, frankly, dealing with people that didn't get it. but i'll tell you what, we'll have mutual respect, mutual respect, and china will benefit and we're going to benefit anterly lead the way. >> the president-elect will bring his thank you tour to hershey, pennsylvania next thursday. today a federal judge in philadelphia will hear joe stein's -- jill stein's argument for recounting election ballot in

pennsylvania. will ask the judge to dismiss the recount, this on the grounds that it won't change the presidential election's outcome. meanwhile in chester county officials say they'll be required by law to fulfill the green party's request for recounts, they'll be reviewing 190,000 presidential election ballots. >> this is is not exactly the speech of the capitol. i hoped to be giving after the election. but after a two weeks of taking selfies in the woods, i thought it would be a good idea to come out. >> secretary hillary clinton making those jokes as she made her return visit to capitol hill yesterday. for the first time since the election, she was therefore the unveiling every senator harry reid's portrait in the senate. at least having little bit of fun there, right? >> absolutely. still ahead right here on cbs-3 "eyewitness news", a tragedy captured on facebook, absolutely broadcast her own fatal car crash. >> and this traffic nightmare,

sister station kcds in los angeles, all start wad accident with a big rig and turned into a traffic nightmare, with cars back up for miles last night. and imagine sitting in that? wow. >> like the schuylkill sometimes? >> times ten though. >> exactly. >> yikes. >> deadly crash in mount pocono kills two teens and police say it steeped live on facebook. >> the 18 and 19 year old friends from the scranton area died on tuesday. police say they were hit from behind by a tractor-trailer on interstate 380. the live video has since been taken off line, apparently showed the impact from inside the teen's car. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. the early blast of winter is already started making a mess across the state. this was the scene outside erie, where at least 13 vehicles got tangled up in a chain reaction crash, on a snowy stretch of i90. at least 15 people there were taken to the hospital. >> incredible. >> so wintery weather continues to hit much of the country this morning, with heavy snow, white-out

conditions, and sub zero temperatures. >> two separate storm systems triggered blinding snowstorms that led to deadly pileups in several states, hena daniels with the rest from new york. >> reporter: as snow plows got to work in up-state new york crews in ohio worked through the night, towing vehicles involved in a major pile up along interstate 90. >> pretty aggravated about it, i'm trying to get home. >> the chain reaction crash that injured more than a dozen people was one of many triggered thursday by lake effect snowstorm. that broad white-out conditions to the midwest. in michigan, cars and semi's were seen smashed together in a deadly pile-up along i96, involving 40 vehicles. >> there are three confirmed fatalities with this accident, we've not yet identified those victims, 11 other victims were transported from the scene. >> the moving storm system dumped more than foot of snow, an hour north of syracuse, new york yesterday. and caused more crashes.

because when you encounter this air mass, early, this morning, it is not going to feel so great. temperatures right now, pretty cold, and we are off to our coldest start the season so far in philadelphia. 31 degrees, 20's in wilmington, same case in millville, down into the 20's, at the atlantic city airport. yep, arctic air mass has got the whole country in it grips. check out current conditions. twenty's in dallas, texas, 38 degrees, in houston. new orleans, we're at 42 degrees. and 27 in birmingham, alabama. and for today, yes, we are dealing with that arctic air mass, mix every sunday, clouds, 40 degrees the high temperature, but with the blustery conditions, winds out of the northwest at around 15 to 20 miles per hour, it will feel like 20's all throughout the day. then, watch, drop to the 20's overnight tonight. still little breezy at times, 27 degrees. so feeling like teens, as we wake up on saturday morning. storm scan3, showing us, fairly quiet conditions across the delaware vale. lake effect snow definitely going off to the north and west. few of the snow showers are

sneaking their way into the poconos right now. could see few flurries passing through carbon, monroe counties as we head throughout the day today. system to watch as woe head into sunday night and monday could bring us measurable snow likely in the poconos, possible accumulation in the lehigh valley, even period of light snow possible, and some of the northwestern suburbs, likely to see rain-snow mix sunday night and early monday, even in the part of south jersey, as women, so one model showing us what the potential could be as we head into early monday morning. we could see some light accumulation, even in center city philadelphia, especially point to the north then light accumulation up toward the lehigh vale, more significant totals in the poconos. stay tuned to that evolving forecast as we head into the next couple of days. as we head into the upcoming weekends, chilly one, high temperatures upper three's, for both saturday, sunday, watching the system as we head into sunday night, and early monday, but thankfully as we head into the second half of monday, pat, temperatures warming up to the 40's.

any of the snow will change over to rain. >> looks good, little later on, here, friday morning, the commute, well, it has started. this is accident not good one either. this is girard avenue, the off ramp here on the schuylkill expressway, there is an accident, one lane just sneaking by, this just happened within the last couple every minute. so it is going to be a slow commute. if you are taking the schuylkill expressway, give yourselves a lot of extra time, moving through this area. so again, schuylkill eastbound at girard avenue, there is a fresh accident right there. looking at the 42 freeway, get rid of that, headed toward 295, headed towards the city of philadelphia, no delays right here in new jersey, as every right now, but there is a delay right here. this is us130 southbound approaching 551, the left lane is blocked, until 6:00 a.m. this is in brooklawn. and they're doing a gas line repair there. so about the next 45 minutes or so in brooklawn. also, the garden state parkway southbound between the atlantic city expressway and north field margate. right lane blocked there until 6:00 a.m. and one more thing to look at.

scattered snow showers both saturday and sunday, pair of 30 degrees for both days. not even making it to freezing. and the sitly see some sunshine, will you it will be frigid saturday, 39 degrees, few more clouds as we head into sunday, and down the shore, sunshine to start, upper 30's, few more clouds by sunday, 43 degrees on high temperature, but sunday night, a system to watch that could bring measurable snowfall to parts of the area. i'll have more details on that in your full forecast coming up in just a couple of minute
