>> the male has a handgun in hand, and pointed at the officers or in that direction of them, refusing their command. >> reporter: that is when u.s. marshals fired at him wanted for shooting i man several times july 21st. >> on the 400 block of west huntington, thinks an individual sitting on the steps at that location. this male, parentally with two other individuals, pulled up in a vehicle the. he exits the vehicle and begins firing at this individual. >> reporter: his mother shirley beal, tells "eyewitness news" that since then he had been on the run and cut off all communication with his family. >> the last thing i heard from him, after he did what he did, he said he didn't want to live anymore, he was tired of living. >> reporter: clearly overwhelmed with emotion family and friend removed his belongings from inside his home he was staying in. >> his last words were i love you. >> reporter: so both philadelphia police and u.s. marshals office are still investigating the circumstances around this officer involved shooting. live at police headquarters,

anita oh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the estate of the first fee hail fire tighter to died in the line of duty in philadelphia has now filed a lawsuit against 30 equipment manufacturers. the joyce craig died in december, 2014, fighting a house fire on middleton street in philadelphia the suit filed last week alleged that the equipment that she was wearing failed to save her life. it also seeks damages in excess of $50,000. hundreds of law enforcement officers stood at attention in the rain on the atlantic city boardwalk today paying respects to a new jersey state trooper, killed in the crash. officer frankie williams was responding to a call in egg harbor township last monday of an eradic driver when the driver then crossed the median and struck williams car head on killing them both. the 11 months on the job, williams outside impact was clearly felt by so many. >> frankie williams was the on the job just 11 months, model trooper, he was a model recruit, always wanted to be a trooper and to see some would

be cut down really in the most productive wonderful time of his life, after being married just two months, it is horrible. >> williams is survived by his wife kimberly and he was just 31 years old. disgraced pennsylvania congressman chaka fattah has been sentenced to ten years behind bars following his convictions on charges of public corruption, money laundering and bribery. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is live in center city where he spoke with fattah moments after that sentence came down, greg. >> reporter: that is exactly right there, jessica and former congressman says he respects the judge's sentencing decision but did he not elaborate much past that. so now chaka fattah is heading to federal prison for his ten years sentence starting january 2017. former u.s. congressman chaka fattah will serve ten years in a federal prison. the second longest sentence ever handed down to a member of the congress. >> we have received the sentence, we respect the court

's decision. we don't have much comment on that. >> reporter: federal prosecutors recommended 17 to 22 years behind bars for the convicted former congressman, found guilty on 18 federal corruption charges. including money laundering, and bribery. after hearing from seven different character witnesses machine morning judge harvey bartle the third handed down the ten year sentence. >> look, ten is certainly better than 17 to 25. >> reporter: lynn is one of the character witnesses who testified and like joe quinones, believes that the the good fattah did for his community and district far out weigh the bad. >> he still has work left undone. we need him to reenter as soon as possible, to pay it forward relative to the lives he has yet to touch. >> reporter: the u.s. attorney says fattah's sentencing should be a warning to others in public office tempted to go down a path of corruption. >> hopefully today's sentencing send a message to our politicians that they need to focus in on doing the right

pottstown and trenton some ice as well this morning. storm scan three showing us all of the moisture cleared out and skies, cloud deck clearing out as well but after that messy start temperatures rebounded up to 50 degrees in philadelphia we have topped at 50 in wilmington. forty-eight in millville. current temperatures right new not too shabby for this time of the year at 46 degrees in philadelphia we are at 40 in lehigh valley. we will stay quiet in the next couple of days but then, intense arctic blast is in store. i'll let you know high temperatures only in the 20's and possible wind chills, sub zero in your full forecast coming up in just a couple minutes. >> okay, lauren, thank you. it was a challenge in north philadelphia today as school district works to increase number of seniors going off to college. officials from the school district sat down with students, and parents to provide them with information about the free application for student federal aid. $150 billion in federal

financial aid is available and school officials want to make sure city students know bit. >> someone finances to be the reason that children are not exposed to those opportunities and that is why we want as many of our young people as possible to complete the fafsa form. >> starting october 1st, the f afsa was available three months earlier giving families more times to certify and select colleges. comcast announced plans to raise internet bills by 3.8 percent come january 1st. average customer pays customer $150 a month, so that hike would tack on around six dollars. as part of the annual hike comcast will boost internet speed for regional sports networks from three to five dollars a month. they enacted a rate hike of 4 percent a little over a year ago. just a few weeks left in the eagles season after a great start. the bird have lost eight out of ten, after yesterday's loss to washington. >> sports director don bell joins us now.

cherri gregg from our sister station kyw news radio caught up with the man at center of it all. >> just doing a great life. >> reporter: jenkins senior has come here to the abc boxing gym nearly every single day, for 45 years, and during that time, he has seen quite a bit. >> a lot of lessons, ups and down, lot of coming throughs. >> reporter: former boxers jenkins aka freddie j coached some of the best in this ring. >> we had reputation of real tough gym. >> reporter: training boxers like gold medalist david read and ifb chew chew charlie brown who took jenkins around the world. >> that is me right there. >> reporter: no matter where he went this place was home to his big old heart. >> you have to be a psychologist, you have to be a doctor, you have to be a lawyer. >> reporter: it was here jenkins mentored more than 2,000 kids in this ring. >> we build a foundation with the individual, and then that is always boxing.

prohibits christie while of thing while still the governor musical comedy drama lah lah land sings and dances its way to the leading seven golden globe nominations including best picture. plot follows a musician and aspiring actress, falling in love in l.a. film was written and directed by damian, who is also the force behind highly acclaim 2014 film, whiplash. as a child he lived near the main line and i talk with him about award season. >> when it comes to like whether it is award buzz or whatever my hope is just that it gets people to see the movie. if stuff does happen and helpful for hoff i that is great. my hope was it was a movie that people who loved musicals would appreciate. people like myself. but would it reach out to people who think they would never want to be caught dead watching a musical that they could still relate to it. >> such a talented young man. thirty-one years old. lah lah land opens up this friday in our area you saw it. >> i loved it. >> loved it.

newark and storm scan three showing us that moisture has exited and quiet across the region, no weather systems up win, just yet so we will have a quiet several days heading in to mid week. temperatures right now again not too, too chilly 40 in allentown. 42 degrees in lancaster. forty-three in dover. we did get a taste of more mild air mass built in overnight last night, raised our temperatures throughout overnight period and cut off that chance of frozen precipitation in time for our monday morning commute, good news for us and for tonight getting chilly but right around average 29 degrees under a few passing cloud. for tomorrow mostly sunny to increasing clouds in the afternoon, high of 44 degrees with the southeasterly wind at five to 10 miles an hour. enjoy these more mild conditions, and more seasonable conditions. as we head into thursday, our arctic air will plunge in across parts of the northeast including the delaware valley and our temperatures will take a huge tumble, arctic air still entrenched heading this

to friday. shore mild into saturday, moisture moves in that will give us a chance of the wintry mix to kick off next weekend but with this cold air it is coming right in on time because our average first in philadelphia for a high temperature colder than tree ing is december 18th and a low colder than 19 which we have in the seven day forecast , also on average, december 18th and we typically pick up our first measurable snowfall in the month of december, as well, so up and down temperatures, will be the trend as we head in the next several days, 40's on tuesday, 40's on wednesday, and then bottom falls out on thursday with that arctic air with high temperatures only in the 20's, but across the region tomorrow not too bad down the shore, mostly sunny conditions, high temperature at 46 degrees. partly sunny in the poconos with a high of 34. as we head into wednesday partly sunny conditions, 41 degrees and then your thursday temperature 28, just to add insult to injure we have windy conditions, on thursday, so likely those wind chills will be in the teens. also throughout the day and
