beaten on the side of that street and there was no identification on her whatsoever. on the side of the road, in an isolated area in west kensington, in the 2700 block of north third street. minutes before midnight monday , philadelphia housing police officers made a gruesome discovery. >> they found a female laying on the street. >> she was brutally beaten about the head and body. >> she was completely unresponsive. >> transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced. >> reporter: mystery behind what happened to a woman in her 40's and being clouded by who she actually is. >> we will find out her background, who she associate was but everything starts with finding out her identification and hopefully we will get that in the next 24 hours. >> reporter: philadelphia police homicide captain james clark is in charge of the investigation. >> i have detectives canvassing the area, we're knocking on doors, looking at area media, video, and we're hoping someone this is public necessary anything will contact our unit, and give us a tip, and we will run hard until we find the person

that truck, and which slammed in the market last night. german chance lar angela merck el visited site where truck crashed in the busy christmas market in berlin. death toll is up to at least 12, with nearly 50 injured in the attack, which investigators are treating as an act of terrorism. she signed a book of condolence after saying she was shock, saddened. police initially detained an asylum seeker from pakistan but he denied any involvement, and was released because of in sufficient evidence. authorities say that they cannot rule out possibility that a suspect is on the loose this man was selling jewelry at the market when the truck, barreled through. >> come quick, and we have to close on the shop, so quickly i cannot close. >> reporter: polish driver was supposed to be using truck to deliver steel beams. that man was found dead inside of the cab. shot, and then stabbed. a long with the the fear in

a legal issue was being resolved by attorneys. baroni and kelly were convicted in the plot to orchestrate traffic jams, to punish a mayor, who didn't endorse governor chris christie. the governor was not charged. former pennsylvania congressman chaka fattah lost his latest legal bid to stay out of prison. why denied fattah's request to be a freeman while appealing his racketeering conviction. he was sentenced to ten years behind bars for using government grants and charity money to cover his campaign and personal expenses f take has to report to prison january 25th. philadelphia police need help finding a man wanted for smash and grab robbery in germantown. take a look at this surveillance video, police say that man broke front window of aaron's rental center on sat kay. he stole to flat screen televisions and lap top before getting a way. a water main break in south philadelphia is still causing a traffic night the mayor for drivers. chopper three over southbound columbus boulevard near

christian street, where that 12-inch main burst around 7:30 this morning. the frigid temperatures made for icy conditions in the area , and nearby apartment building is now without water and will be, for several more hours. as of right now columbus boulevard remains closed to southbound traffic, between fitzwater and christian, that includes, drivers, heading south, after getting off to i-95. so keep that in mine, in word on when repairs will be completed. and drivers on route 32 in mercer county avoided a sticky situation today, that mangled truck you see there was carrying 40,000 pounds of syrup when it jackknifed near the new jersey turnpike exit 8 a in east windsor. that road had to be closed to one lane, while crews worked to get the truck off the road, in one was injured and no syrup was spill. well to day is last day of autumn but it feels more like winter. meteorologist kate bilo is outside on the sky deck right now with the frigid end to fall, kate.

>> ukee, it is backward because it is really cold out here tonight, tonight last night of fall we will start winter tomorrow but it looks like this will be coldest day certainly right through christmas. could be coldest day right through new years. we have slipped the script a little bit here, we have got temperatures gradually heading upward. but lets take a quick look at storm scan three there is a few cloud trying to creep in the, mainly off to the west, no precipitation though and it will stay dry through the end of the week. the that is really good news for holiday travelers, but then the same can't be said for christmas weekend as we are tracking showers which i'll tell but in a few minutes let talk about tonight, temperature wise, it is cold, still just 33 degrees in philadelphia, temperatures did not rise quickly enough after morning lows in the teens, we only got to the mid 30's today , in fact, lot like yesterday, yesterday's high was 34 degrees, today, expected to warm up a little bit more but it didn't, 34 degrees the high today but

on the cbs-3 healthwatch, a surprising new recommendations for treating concussions. health reporter stephanie stahl is here with new advice. >> yes, this is a switch for people, for years, we have heard that completely avoiding activity in the days following a diagnosed concussion can help speed up recovery. but according to a new study in the journal of the association of the medical american association, there is no clear evidence that works. the study looked at 3,000 children and adolescence between five and 18 who had been diagnosed with acute

concussions. one month later, the inactive children had more concussion symptoms, compared to the kid who participated in light activity. doctor andrew rustman of the cleveland clinic who did not take part said limiting activity too much after a concussion, might not be beneficial. >> there is good evidence, that if we avoid doing lots of activities if we sit in the dark room for a long time we don't he can exposure self to the normal things we encounter in our environment and once we start resuming those activities we are much more sensitive to that. >> reporter: researchers say that resuming physical activity after a concussion may increase blood flow to the brain but to avoid reinjury to kid, they should generally beside lined from the activity , that led to the concussion. so from confusing stuff here, parents need to talk to doctors about what to do with this. >> they keep learning more and more about this, stephanie, thank you.

it is nice we have the sun. it wasn't raining on us. >> no, wind wasn't too bad. >> that was a plus today. it was cold today, especially this morning for folks out there early this morning. that is what i heard, a lot better this afternoon then it was this morning. temperatures were only in the teens. we bottomed out around 20 here in philadelphia but thanks to everyone who braved the cold, grabbed your hot chocolate and brought a toy. this evening chilly but definitely could be worse. lets take a look we will start off in the poconos where folks are taking advantage of the cold weather. ski resorts making plenty of snow. they have nature made snow this past weekend. it looks like a glass taking place here, snow board class there at jack frost big boulder. definitely something to do over the holiday break, head up to the poconos, they definitely got a better situation then last year when we struggled to get any snow because it was so warm. we will talk about last years christmas weather, coming up in our next half an hour. lets start with a beautiful look outside at palmyra cove nature park. look at this shot of the city

sky line, what a gorgeous sunset it is outside tonight. we have got red, pink colors in the sky, 29 degrees, outside, it is cold but it is beautiful, gorgeous night to be out and about as long as you are bundled. storm scan three shows us a few clouds moving in tonight. those are fizzling. as we head in the day tomorrow we will see plenty of sunshine and we will start to feel, temperatures, heading upward, which is good news as we head toward christmas holiday. we will flip things around, finish fall on a frigid note and then winter warm up, winter begins tomorrow morning , 5:44 a.m. so by the time we wake up most of us it will be officially winter, 33 degrees is current temperature in philadelphia, 30 in allentown. 29 degrees in reading. twenty-three mount pocono. winds have not been too bad but there is a little brisk wind out there and that is making our temperatures feel a bit colder then thermometer indicates. feels like mid 20's in the city, 23 in allentown and cutting that temperature in half, feels like just 14 right now in mount pocono. what to expect as we take a look at future weather,

everything clear overnight no problems we will start with lots of sun, a few more cloud in the afternoon. we are watching a weak system coming through here on thursday, here's front as it passes through but notice, it doesn't have any precipitation maybe a snow shower, maybe in the poconos, most of us see nothing, that front clears out , and then back to sunshine for rest of the week. no more chance for showers late this week. it does stay dry, right toward holiday weekend. overnight mainly clear, very cold, 25 degrees is your low. sunny and quiet for your wednesday, 45 degrees, that is seasonal. wind light five to 10 miles an hour, generally out of the west. thursday we have, of course, thursday night football in philadelphia giants taking on the eagles kick off temperature 38 degrees, mostly cloud which a northwest wind ten to 15, breezy but should stay try. eyewitness weather three day forecast, does bring a few more cloud in thursday but temperatures back to the mid to upper 40's. we will go below average to slightly above average for first three days of winter.

"eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan spoke to new jersey lawmakers after the book deal was shelved. >> reporter: from the george washington bridge scandal to his failed bid for president to no appointment for president-elect donald trump, new jersey governor chris christie has not received the most flattering press. monday his alleged attempt at revenge fell flat, when lawmakers refused vote on a measure to cut millions of dollars to newspapers by eliminateing requirement for public legal notices. >> he was clearly hoping to staff the press that has uncovered so much of his miss deed. >> reporter: republicans and democrats also snubbed a bill that would raise salaries for top level state employees and change the law to allow governor to profit from writing a book while still in office. assemblyman john burzichelli sponsored that failed bill.

seven philadelphia letter carriers are celebrating a safety milestone at that coney postal station. today the u.s. postal service presented them with the 100 million step award.

starts right now. taking drugs, guns, and cash off the streets of philadelphia. police operation targeting an area where authorities say that they have seen an increase in the number of heroin overdoses, recently. operation focused on illegal drug sales and took place over a three day period in what police are calling an anti violence initiative. good evening, i'm ukee washington. aim jessica dean. "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brownies live in north philadelphia after department 's crime lab was with more on this big operation, natasha. well, we can tell you that the numbers that came out of this press conference today, was staggering, 21 weapons confiscated, $130,000 of cocaine and $53,000 worth of heroin now taking off the streets of philadelphia. police tell us that this is just the beginning of the attack on drugs, in one area.
