travelers over the next week and a half, more than 103 million americans are expected to take a trip from now through the new year. so you can see right now, here at the philadelphia international airport, there is a little bit after midday lull. so you might want to head down here if you haven't, if you are planning to take a trip. but it was a much different picture earlier this morning. >> we're going to disney, magic kingdom. mickey mouse, mini mouse. >> reporter: lines at the theme park aren't the only ones travelers a facing as they try to get to their destination for the holiday. >> i'm tired, so i really didn't want to stand in line, to get here early enough to avoid this but i didn't. >> crowds have started to builds early this morning, we expect that it will continue to be like this throughout the day. >> and that's not a surprise for triple a spokeswoman, jana tidwell, in the philadelphia area along, more than 1.2 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more for the year-end holidays. >> we've seen rebounds in economy. we've seen the job market rebounds, housing market

"eyewitness news". >> looking forward to it, thanks, anita. all eyes on the holiday forecast, let's check in with katie live on the cbs-3 skydeck. we know it won't and white christmas, katie, but what can we expect for the weekends? >> looking for wet weather in the form of rain, for some of you icing, specifically the story far north of philadelphia. coming up a little later in the show, i will walk you through the timing, much more specific, when it comes to that, but if you're just waiting to get out the door here, let me get you out the door t looks like actually looking ahead to real nice afternoon, first minute of the noon hour, are underway, we've got nothing but bright sunshine overhead, storm scan, essentially, working over time right now, making the tri-state sweep with nothing overhead say for few wisp clouds here and there, most notably back toward the central suburbs of pennsylvania here. and that is actually sign of things to come. there is a system that will work its way in, that's where we start to talk about that rain threat. but also the possibility of

ice far north of the city. specific to tomorrow morning, but for now, you know, today is your travel day, the weather is cooperating. it certainly is going to be very quiet right through the evening, but then over night, we would be talking very early morning hours of tomorrow, that wet weather does begin to move on in. and then the cover of darkness, of course, leads to icing. much more on the specifics of that in timing it out, a little more specifically for you later in the show. had four the current temperature as we stand at philadelphia international airport. little chilly waiting in the economy parking there. this is actually smidge above average already, and we are expecting to peak around 47 in philadelphia here this afternoon. >> with sunny skies, little bit of crispness to the air, late december after all, what we expect. >> rain later in the show as promised but there is along with the wet weather bit of mild start in, and how high those temperatures will climb later on as well, guys.

>> thanks so much, katie. may not have meant much in the standings, but the eagles are celebrating a big win over the division rival giants. kept giants from clinching playoff spot at least for now. to the highlight and eagles flying high early on the birds first drive to shift darren sproles, finds hole in the right side and takes it 25 yards to the house to make it seven-nothing. then on the ensuing giants drive, eli manning tosses it up. malcolm jenkins steps in. in front of the throw, he takes it in for pick six, 14-nothing birds. fast forward, eagles up by five, giant with one last chance to win it, eli manning pick off this time by terrence brooks, manning third interception of the game. eagles hold on to the 24-19 win. >> and the win snaps five game losing streak and gives the eagles their first win in a one score game this season, coach doug pederson is speaking live now about the history of last night. let's listen in.

as really carlson reports from london, now hearing directly from the terror suspect in a video released by isis. >> anis amri's run from law enforcement ended with a gun fight on this street in milan, italy, some 600 miles from berlin. the too near and, expected of mowing down 12 people at christmas market. two officers spotted amri acting suspiciously at 3:00 a.m. when they asked him for id, he took a pistol from his back pack and shot one of them in the shoulder. the second officer responded with deadly force. >> german canceller angela merkel says security force also not rest until they know who may have helped amri escape. officials say he fled to france, then italy. this morning, isis released this video of amri pledging his allegiance to the islamic state and threatening the west for quote bombing muslims. amri's fingerprints were found inside the cab of the

tractor-trailer used in the attack. dash cam video shows the truck barreling toward the christmas market, folds by people running from the scene. police say amri was also spotted on camera a few hours later at a berlin mosque. at an afternoon noose conference, american he will said she spoke with tunisia's president, and must speed up deportations of those like amri denied of asylum. well, president-elect donald trump has reopened the debate over nuclear proliferation, now we're hearing from russia. mr. trump made a statement on twitter thursday that the us should quote expands its nuclear capability until the world comes to its senses for his part, said in a news conference yesterday, today, rather, that russia should build up its nuclear capability, too, and reporting today trump told them let's get in the arms race, america would out match any country. one man is dead after a fire inside a montgomery

county apartment building this morning. this all happened just after 1:00 a.m. on the 400 block of high street in pottstown. this was the smokey scene after crews battled the flames. authorities suspect the fire may have been caused by careless smoking. police tell us the one victim was found dead in his apartment on the second floor. >> every fire, the second floor, the east side of the building, made encouraging trans to the building to knock down the fire, knocking down the fire, they discovered victim in the fire. already deceased. my understanding some people did knock on the door, tried to get in but the smoke was too heavy and had to get out of the building. >> twenty-seven people left displace from the this fire including seven children. woman shot in the arm during a home invasion in kensington, police say the 20 year old woman was answering the door to her apartment when two men forced their way inside. this happened on the 500 block of east allegheny avenue last night. the intruders asked the woman for money. and then a struggle ensued, police say, that's when she was shot.

>> what's interesting about this home invasion shooting just prior to these two perpetrators forcing there way in, shooting the victim, told by the next-door neighbor that these two males, knock on his door, and when he came to the door, they with asking for a name that was not familiar to him. so he locked his door, and would not let them in. >> now the victim's 20 year old roommate and her three year olson were also home. the victim is in stable condition. well, coming up on cbs-3 "eyewitness news", caught on camera. train smashes into a car stuck on the tracks in california. we'll have a closer look at the dramatic impact. >> pennsylvania man spends hours stuck in his car after a roll-over crash. hear what he has to say about the frightening ordeal when "eyewitness

judge a freight train slams into a car in california. the driver was saved in the nick of time by 2la county firefighters who happened to see that the car was stuck, the driver says she was lost, and trying to turn around. she said she didn't realize she was actually on the railroad tracks. meantime, man was trapped for 12 hours on the side after road after his car flipped over an embankment in butler township. just days before christmas, 52 year old brian smith is sitting in a hospital after surviving a car crash that almost took his life. he was driving on interstate

lakes, you can already see the signs of life, moving into indianna, illinois, and that is the next system that's moving our way. out ahead of it, handful of clouds, starting to nudge across the western two thirds of pennsylvania, will eventually get all more cloud cover as we hit the evening. but, again, this storm system is eventually going to bring in some weather as well. you have got mixed bag here, some icing, still taking place across nebraska, snow as well as rain, but for us, it is mainly a rain producing system. so let's walk you through the next couple of days on future weather. i like how it is initializing, right now nothing but sunshine, but as we hit say 5:00, 6:00 tonight, those clouds begin to edge their way in. and then overnight, we are talking 1:00, 2:00 in the morning or so, the combination of precipitation start to move in. it should be obviously very scattered at this point, but because it comes un the cover of darkness, a lehigh valley poconos could actually see not just little icing, probably few snowflakes leer, as the sun is about ready to come up

tomorrow, rain will over spread the radar, much more widespread fashion, could even be some steadier pockets of rain. look even by 10:00 p.m. -- 10:00 a.m., parts of the inland suburb here starting to clear out. so you are coming up on sunset. might even see this completely clear out, break for little sun before it actually sets, as hanukkah is getting underway, and then of course the big nan red has got very important ride tomorrow night. and as midnight, it looks like it is all clear. over the delaware valley. soap, no worries for rudolph and the rest of the gang. now looking forward to the rest of sunday, christmas day, looks like gem. we've got full sunshine yet again for you, clearly no white christmas this time around, but nice trade off, which you will see a little more of in the seven day. let me get you through saturday. yep, there are a lot of us just have the last minute boxes to check off of the to-do list, right? 2:00 to 8:00 a.m., our best chance to see any wintery mixing, it is strictly confined to the far northern counties, philly, it is just rain.

and the rest of us, it is just rain. but you will see the steadiest rain come through 8:00 until noontime or so, then after lunch it is starting to clear out from west to east. so done with it by the time we get in toward those evening services at church and whatnot. at the moment, nice bright sunshine as we mention, beautiful reflection off the delaware river here, shot from palmyra cove nature park, betsy ross bridge in the distance, but it is feeling certainly chill in the air, but for the late december standards, that we normally have, it is not bad. expecting at least in philly international to top off around 47. under full sunshine. starting to see those showers approach overnight. but evening travel is fine, we drop it down to about 35 degrees, happy hanukkah to you, 45 degrees, saturday evening, as skies are clearing out, in the wake of the system we talked about, then more sunshine for christmas day. very quickly just check that seven day, it is all important of course, and as we get into the week, between christmas and new years, it looks awfully mild for those first couple of days, our next best chance i think to see some
