breaks out inside a local mall and tonight multiple people are under arrest but police say it could have been much worse. i'm jessica dean. yukee washington has the night off. this is the second night in a row there's been trouble at philadelphia mills and there have been similar fights at malls nationwide. eyewitness news reporter al exan degreeia hoff is outside the mall with details. alex? >> reporter: last night there was about 100 teenagers acting disorderly here at mills. when teenagers arrived, police say they were ready. in response to last night's disturbance, 8th district police officers set up a detail with mall security early this morning. when a mass of teens twice the size of the hundred or so who acted out the night before, police were able to keep a majority out of the mall but they say 30 before able to get inside and that is where the real problems began.

>> when those 30 individuals got in the food court area, they started acting disorderly. they were running around, shouting, yelling, screaming. >> reporter: after resisting attempts by security to intervene, philadelphia 34ris insisted, they say one teen tried to punch an officer. it's a similar scene as to what has been unfolding at various malls around the country as an odd string of unruly teen flash mobs took over post-holiday shopping, in some cases like here at the philadelphia mills tonight, shoppers posted on social media to say they were placed on lock down inside stores that lowered their protective gates with customers still inside. there were no injuries. >> these teenagers, these juveniles were able to get on social media, specifically snap chat, and they were able to all meet up at this location at the philadelphia mills mall. but police were ready for them.

they were pro active. >> reporter: good luck getting a quality prom date acting like that. seriously. as for the juveniles who were taken into custody, they were charged with failure -- they could be charged with inciting a riot which is a felony offense. >> there are major new developments tonight in a search for a mother. melissa rodriguez was last seen in 2013. tonight authorities were at the home she shared with her husband. four different cadaver dogs hit on a shot in the basement in the home. but digging yielded no sign of the remains of melissa rodriguez. tonight the world is mourning the loss of iconic actress carrie fisher. the daughter of hollywood riilty who gained fame as princess leia

station. she said she was stuck in traffic and that was the last anyone has heard from her. >> i'm going to go with she got lost in the mountains, reception got bad, her car broke down and she's waiting fob somebody to see her. >> her family said she's a retired new jersey transit driver who's used to long hours behind the wheel. they also said she was in good health and never failed to call people back. today marks day 4 in the search for whoever murdered south philadelphia grocery store owner marie buck. the 81-year-old was shot 11 times at point blank range on christmas eve. tonight the captain of philadelphia's homicide unit and a team of investigators canvassed the area where that shooting happened. also tonight authorities are searching for the cause of a 2-alarm fire that destroyed a home in burlington county.

chopper 3 was over the scene. it took firefighters about an hour to get that fire under control. no one was injured. the red cross is now assisting the family displaced by the fire. and philadelphia's lawn crest section, a close call after a tractor-trailer tractor-trailer crashed at a gas station. that happened around 6:20 this morning at the speedway gas station. that tractor-trailer narrowly missed the gas pump and then caught fire. an suv was also badly damaged in that crash. two people were taken to the hospital in stable condition. the temple owls football team was hoping to make history today. the cherry and white traveled to annapolis maryland to take on wake forest and don bell is joining us a little early now and it was not the outcome that they were hoping for. >> no. they had such high hopes. we all did. >>y. >> however, it did not end the

a teen clerk foils a robbery at a convenience store in atlantic city and it's all caught on camera. a 17-year-old works at his family's store. on monday a man walked in and demanded money. he had a gun. he acted like he was going to open the register then quickly grab the robber's bag and gun. he pointed it at the would-be robber who pulled out his mask and pleaded for mercy. he said he wouldn't recommend other people grab a gun from a robber but in this situation he has no regrets. >> i had one secretary to think should i give him the money or take the gun. that's when i took the chance and i took the gun. >> he told police he recognized the suspect who goes by the name eddie who may be responsible for another armed robbery last week on the same street. the leaders of the u.s. and

a suspicious package forces an evacuation of trump tower in new york city. this is video posted on twitter. an unattended backpack forced people to run from the building. office waved them to the exits. the bomb squad quickly determined that bag contained harmless children's toys. trump was in florida when that bag was discovered. george michael's partner says the two had plans to go to lunch on christmas day when found the singer dead. he said quote it's a christmas i'll never forget. finding your partner dead peacefully in dead first thing in the morning. i'll never stop missing you. in the meantime fans have left a mountain of letters, flowers and other tributes at the gate of the singer's london home. george michael was 53. december is the season of giving and it turns out january is the month of returns. ups expects to deliver a

record-breaking 1.3 million packages back to retailers on january 5th alone. the delivery service calls it national returns day and they think it will be the busiest one yet topping last a special celebration today at city hall for kwanzaa in honor of the holiday's 50th anniversary. the week-long celebration was conceived after the 1965watts riots in laejs and each day is dedicated to a different principle. they included music, games, delicious food. the holiday is observed over 8 days. a candle on the menorah is lit every night.

kate bilo joining us here inside the studios, outside the temperatures were falling but it wasn't really cold if you were going to be outside celebrating today. >> no. i was looking at people you saw people without the hats and the scarves. you didn't need them today, it was in the 60s for us. allentown hit 61. previous record was 59. so definitely a little taste of spring in the air today but it's not going to last. temperatures dropping tonight and definitely going to be feeling much more like winter is supposed to feel for the remainder of the week. even some snow flakes in a few spots. let's start it off with a look outside. you can see our studios looking quiet right now. skies are mainly clear, it's definitely chilly, the cold air finally moving in. there was a little bit of a disconnect between the cold front that came in this morning and the actual cold air. clouds have moved off the coast, that's what brought the shower cloud cover this morning. now skies clearing and the cold finally making its way in as a

mild day on the whole. it's this little thing you see here over portions of canada an alberta clipper moving into portions of minnesota. fast-moving storm and not a lot of moisture with it. as it comes in on thursday it won't have moisture with it but could lead to slow-downs. pretty comfy for this time of the year but temperatures on their way down. we started the week in the low 50s. today we got well into the 60s in most spots. the average high only 42. tomorrow we're back to normal so it will feel a whole lot colder in comparison with today. 40s, our system moves through and friday is even colder with highs in the 30s. anywhere from the 30s to the 60s this week we've hit each. as we head into wednesday we've got generally quiet conditions,

seasonable conditions, on thursday morning, this is when that precip moves in. scattered showers or snow showers. 7:00 a.m. it's cold enough for snow in the lehigh valley but quickly warm air will change it into rain and it moves out by midday. this does not have a lot of moisture with it, but that being said it could stay snow long enough in the lehigh valley or poconos to drop a coating meantime just a mix possible in the suburbs at the onset of the precipitation and a transition to all rain. overnight mainly clear, temperatures will drop. 35 is your low. for your wednesday, lots of sunshine noticeably cooler at 43. fast forward into new year's plans if you're making those plans for saturday night, it will be a little chilly. 37 degrees, certainly we've had colder new year's eaves here in philly, we've had wetter and

and welcome back. the temple owls ended their regular season on a 7-game winning streak. then without even stepping on the field, they suffered their biggest loss of the year. the question was could they recover for the military bowl. first quarter we go. what a great catch that is. 7-0 temple. second quarter, wake forest, pouring it on. in for the score, they have 31 unanswered points. temple trailed by 21 at the
