greg? >> reporter: jessica, good evening, we're learning so much more about this investigation here at police headquarters, but you're also taking a live look on your screen right there at a growing memorial there, in south philadelphia, near the scene where marie buck, 18 years old was shot. police say the man who is responsible for her murder shooting her 11 times in the chest is arrested and charged with murder. now this is 31 year old maurice green. police say career criminal, with at least 15 prior charges to his name. mostly drug-related. on christmas morning, investigators say, he walked into marie's grocery, on sixth street and tighten, in south philadelphia, and without even speaking to marie buck, the 81 year old owner, he shot her 11 times in the chest. homicide detective say the suspect was angry at her grandson, believing the grandson had stole answer piece of jewelry worth between five and $10,000. investigators say that is when green went in the store seeking -- thinking the

grandson was work that morning, when he only found buck there, he opened fire. >> one of the more horrific murders that i've dealt with in nine years, you have 81 year old grandmother, defenseless, who is beloved by the community, and to be killed in this manner is just horrific. it is very sad. but we are very happen that i we were able to put this to a close in a very short time period. >> now, police say, the grandson was supposed to be working christmas eve morning. in fact, marie buck, victim here, called him that morning, even woke him up. police say, though, never was able to get to work and minute later his grandmother was shot those 11 times. investigators also tell us, that grandson is cooperating with the investigation, he's not facing any charges, as of right now. meanwhile, marie buck's family is gathering in south philadelphia tonight, 7:00 is her wake. tom herr funeral. much more on this developing story tonight at 6:00. but for now, live here at

"eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live in mays landing tonight with more. cleve? >> reporter: the briley family still in virginia at this hour, 71 year old barbara, in stable condition, after this long and dangerous ordeal. >> jump up and down. >> excitement and relief in a mays landing neighborhood at the news 71 year old barbara briley and her five year old great grand daughter found alive after disappearing for almost four days, on christmas road trip to see family in north carolina. >> we were all worried because, you know, they live right next-door to us. so we were hoping that they were okay and we're glad that

they are okay. >> here's how the situation unfolded. christmas eve the briley's left new jersey around 5:40 p.m. they stopped at a gas station about 30 miles north of richmond, virginia. surveillance shows barbara asking for help at the gps on her phone. around 8:00 p.m., family last heard from briley saying she was stuck in traffic. after that, all calls went to voice mail. 1:30 christmas morning her phone ping, 45 miles south of richmond. monday through wednesday, multi agency search along i am states 95 and 85. around 5:00 p.m. wednesday, a man reported finding the briley's and their suv off the road on private property in royal continue witty county, virginia. >> he took a path that goes further back in the woods quite a ways, and that's when he came across the vehicle, miss briley and la myra outside the vehicle, probably 50 yards from the vehicle at a tree. >> no word from authorities on why they believe briley got so lost. she was flown to a local hospital for treatment, and they say la myra was fine.

people, they look back on the year -- >> the new years resolutions, all of those times you were supposed to go work out, all of the coffee you were supposed to avoid. >> ya, ya. >> all the games sproles today win. yes, that's what we will talk about right now. too bad the nfl season more than three games long, un defeat in the september, and it came crashing down by november. with the season ending sunday, i went over to sports radio 94wip to chat, about the eagles top two rookies, quarterback carson wentz, and head coach doug pederson. >> guys, let's get reflective. so carson, he's obviously the starter all year long, we didn't expect that to happen. did it exceed your expectations? >> did for me. certainly when you consider the fact that we didn't even think he was going to play, up until a week before the opener, and then mostly going to start all 16 games, play as well as he played, ya. look back on the season, there are some highs, a loft lows.

but the one thing you can kind of hang your hat on looking into the future, you have a quarterback. >> final grade. what do you think? >> b plus. i mean, it started out so unbelievable, those first four games, you think it can't be true. well, it can't be true. nobody can play that well as a rookie. hits some low spots. but i think in the last few games he's learned how to extends plays, i think real leadership. i give him b plus. >> what about the head coach, doug pederson on the way up or are you a little concerned moving forward? >> to me, too many curious game decisions, i thought there were things during the course of the games, i kind of likes to a point, but to a point. i think he has a lot to learn moving forward next year, but seems like the player like him. seems like the player play for him. in terms of game management issues week to week, i think the jersey still out. >> some improving to do. so we'll see how they do sunday against the dallas cowboys, of course get ready for the off season. >> that's right. we were saying you just start fresh. >> start fresh. >> right.
