cbs3 "eyewitness news". fireworks are ringing in the new year. new year's celebrations are already underway. this one in philadelphia earlier tonight. good evening i'm joe holden. natasha is off tonight. the clock is ticking down to midnight. less than one hour to go you see the clock at the bottom of your screen. another fireworks show will blast off at midnight. our alexandra huff is live at pennsylvania land wrack a crowd is gathering. >> reporter: joe, you can see i still have my party hat on accessory now, too. this one doesn't make noise that's okay. we saw 6:00 p.m. fireworks display that was awesome and we expect nothing less for midnig midnight. ♪ >> reporter: 2017 is about new experiences. karen came here to philadelphia from pakistan to experience new year's in the united states for the first time.

work harder to make 2017 a better year. and to london now big ben the london eye massive crowd counted down into the new year. fireworks were launched from inside of the enormous observation wheel. lighting up the night sky for revelers near and far. well, here at home, the mummers parade takes center stage in philadelphia tomorrow. so big question what can you expect as you head outside for the first day of 2017? meteorologist lauren casey joins us with her new year's decor cast. >> thanks, joe. a lot of festivities on going and conditions will be pretty nice conducive to getting outdoors and enjoying those. we've warmed up over the last hour. 46 degrees right now in philadelphia. 43 in allentown. 46 degrees right now in ac. we still do have that breeze to contend with up around eight. 17, 20 miles per hour another breezy day throughout the day today and we had gusty winds. winds still gusting newspaper the upper teen, 20 miles per hour range adding to that wind chill impact and we did see a

an eye in the eye sky to make sure the massive crowd welcomes 2017 sale. wendy gillette, cbs news, new york. developing now out of turkey at least 35 people are dead and 40 others wounded following an attack at a nightclub in istanbul. officials say a gunman believed to have been dressed as santa clause walked into the club and opened fire. hundreds were inside for a new year's celebration. istanbul's governor called the shooting a terror tack. no group has claimed responsibility. we'll continue to follow this story on air and on cbsphilly.cocbsphilly.com. philadelphia deliver row woman says she was attacked and sexually assaulted. police say the woman told them she was driving on washington lane near chew avenue in east germantown earlier tonight. when a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans jumped in. the woman says he forced her to drive to another location where she tells police he raped her. the man is believed to be in his 20s. so far no arrests in the case.

two people are dead tonight after police say they were hit by a car. this happened around 5:45 in the 200 block of lawrence road in marple township. officials say the elderly victims appeared to have been crossing the road when they were hit. the driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. suspect in the fatal shooting of a pennsylvania state trooper has been shot and killed by authorities. early this morning the manhunt for the suspect, 32-year-old jason robinson, ended in gunfire at a mobile home in central pennsylvania. robinson was wanted in yesterday's shooting death of 23-year-old state trooper landon weaver. who was gunned down as he responded to a domestic incident in huntington county. >> they enacted the murder suspect in a nearby location. when confronted by the troopers the armed suspect failed to obey commands and made an overt threat towards the troopers. faced with deadly situation, troopers were forced to discharge their weapons

resulting in the suspect being fatally wounded. >> weaver join the force a year ago. he becomes the 97th member of the pennsylvania state police to be killed in the line of duty. in the meantime, community members mourn the loss of fallen new jersey state trooper feel fearon today. eyewitness video of the funeral services in new, north arlington, new jersey. lieutenant fearon was diagnosed with a brain tumor a tribute to do working at ground zero during the aftermath of 9/11. fearon served 22 years with the state police. pennsylvania drivers can expect to pay little more at the pumps in the new year. starting tomorrow the gas tax in the keystone state will jump 8 cents to about 78 cents per gallon. the tax revenue was used for road construction and infrastructure maintenance much as today of drivers are paying an average of $2.54 for gallon of regular in pennsylvania. well, less than an hour to go until midnight, and you may be going out to celebrate. but 2017 came early for this

the big party was all over of course just in time for a nap. philadelphia is anticipating a big crowd for the annual mummers parade. that means a lot of road closures. from 3:00 in the morning tomorrow until the end of the parade mark street will be closed from 15th to 16th. 15th from arch to chestnut. jfk boulevard will close from 15th to 20th then later tomorrow broad street will be closed from city hall south down to washington avenue. we've put a complete list of parade parking restrictions online at cbsphilly.com. on new year's eve it is all about the roles at cascia' bakery accident line of people who turned out to get their share. the south philadelphia business was humming all night long as workers baked to phil orders for thousands of them. it's a practice that's spanned decades for the family owned by the fourth generation of bakers. >> our customers are always he here. they're always loyal and they come in i see the same faces every year every day.

blocking the comet. live look at center city philadelphia 46 degrees right now. wind out of the southwest at around 17 miles per hour. making it feel more like 39 but that southerly component to our wind flow is going to usher some more mild air as we head into our sunday and the first day of 2017. actually, we warmed up over the last hour. we just hit our high temperature of the day 46 degrees in philadelphia. topped at 44 in the lehigh valley. 46 in ac. 33 in mount pocono. yesterday was breezy day. today a breezy day especially down the shore winds gusting to 45 miles per hour in atlantic city. to near 40 miles an hour at the cape may county courthouse and temperatures right now as i mentioned really sitting on our high temperature across many reporting sites in the delaware valley. 46 in wilmington. 46 in millville. we're at 43 degrees right now in reading and thankfully we do have a more mild evening because i know a loft us getting out on the town celebrating new year's. we're up about 10 to 15 degrees warmer than this time yesterday evening. and that is in part because of of these clouds in mace holding

temperatures up. we have couple of sprinkles try to redevelop across portions of berks county again radar looking more ominous than what we're actually seeing at the surface because a lot of evaporating before hitting the ground. good to go for the firework at pennsylvania lanning clowder deck increasing throughout the overnight period. nice round of sunshine in store for the first day of january as we head into tomorrow night the clouds though will return and so does the rain chances we head into monday morning kind of spreading from south to north so could impact that monday morning commute as we head into the afternoon hours that rain swath moving more northbound the rain should be pretty light in intensity but again could cause for slick roads throughout the day on monday. but looking all clear for the last eagles game of the season. the birds taking on the cowboys, yuk. 1:00 o'clock game time temperature 49 degrees. mostly sunny conditions. northwest winds eye at around five to 10 miles an hour beautiful day to kick off 2017 all across the region. few clouds to start in the poconos much otherwise sunshine

breaks out in the afternoon. 38 degrees. mostly sunny near 50 down the shore. so milder tomorrow. even more mild as we head into monday. the monday nation will be on tuesday with high temperatures in the city approaching 60 degrees. but you know it's not going to last. arctic air starts to drop in as we head into wednesday. it will officially arrive as we head into thursday so we're going from pleasant to nice polar air mass for week's end that will stick around for period of several days but it will be kind of a soggy start to the work week. 47 on monday with light rain and drizzle. heavy periods of rain as we head into tuesday with that high temperature near 60 degrees. breezy and cooler as we head into wednesday and then we transition over to that arctic air as we head into thursday pretty quiet conditions. dry sunshine on thursday but it looks kind of breezy, 36 degrees. 34 on friday. i think even friday morning temperatures even in the city could fall down into the teens. so that is going to feel like january. >> pulling the bottom right out
