gunfire sends bullets flying through a family's windows. you can see the damage left behind. we'll h ave an update. >> well, today is friday, january the 27th. good morning, everyone. i'm jim donovan. >> and i'm jan carabeo. justin is here with your weekend forecast, and meisha is live at the auto show this morning. tgif. thank goodness we made it, jim. >> exactly. good morning, justin. >> morning, guys. waking up to conditions around the delaware valley, the exception is the wind, still kicking up little bit out of the west. we don't have any wind advisories in effect, wind chills will be down to the 30's around this morning, so dress with that heavier coat. check it out. center city right now, all quiet. clouds over us. 43 degrees, west winds sustained at 20, feeling like 34, these clouds thin out little bit this morning, but overall, partly sunny skies for the rest of the day. forty up in allentown, 31 mount pocono. that's it. that's the colds he is spot this morning. so we are moving back into a colder pattern, really no two arctic air in place, 42 palmyra in mt. holly. wind gusts up around 30 miles

per hour, that's what we deal with around the region this morning, into the afternoon hours. and again, feeling like mid 30's, to even below freezing, at times, and you factor in that wind. nice and quiet. poconos maybe stray snow shower too coming at us later this morning, into the afternoon, but forecast high today, cooler, still above average. forty-eight for philadelphia. at the shore, it is still breezy at 46 degrees. up in the poconos talking about mid 30's, with clouds around, and that chance for a snow shower. now, we did send meisha out to the philly auto show to check out new rides this morning, pick one out for me, meisha, what do you think will look good? >> justin, i may do that. i may pick one up for myself first. but you are second for saying that. all right, well, this is what we're doing. this is the annual philly auto show. i know, so many people wait for this every single year. and it is back. and i have to tell you, more spectacular than we've ever seen it a lot coming up but first we have to hit the

roadways. we have to take a peak what's going on out there. right now construction in new jersey, 2995 south off ramp to route 42 right now closed, it should be opening right about now, plus, we have some construction on the delaware memorial bridge northbound only one lane is open. and that is going to be open until around 6:00 a.m. so another hour, and we have to throw that open, as well. then we have an accident, in east earl township, reading road closed, between precast road and weaver land road. it is still closed. you will have to maneuver around that. plus, live look outside, roosevelt boulevard approaching the schuylkill. you are actually looking okay, eastbound, westbound, starting to i wouldn't say heat up but getting more drivers out there right now than what we were seeing 20 minute ago, actually looking okay. delaware river bridge closed. reminder you guys scutters falls, burlington bristol bridge, those will be your alternates, however, trenton-morrisville in particular is going to get busy. do have the construction route one out there, talking about that, coming up in a little bit.

southern border. >> look, the wall is necessary, it the nos just politics, yet it is good for the heart of the nation in certain way, because people want protection. >> the comments comma mid escalating tensions between us and mexico over the wall. yesterday next call president scrapped plans to visit mr. trump next week. outraged that the president's insistance that mexico would reimburse the us for it. hours later while house press secretary, sean spicer, suggested the us might impose a heavy tax on mexican import to raise the money. >> $50 billion, 20% of import, by doing it that way we can do ten philadelphia a year to pay for the wall, just that mechanism alone. >> while backtrack saying the tax is just one idea on the table, members of the president's own party immediately spoke out. >> south carolina senator lindsey graham tweeted: any policy proposal which drives up cost of corona, tequila, margarita, big time bad idea. much owe sad. >> today the president will

much with british prime minister theresa may at the white house. yesterday she addressed gop lawmakers gathered for retreat in philadelphia. >> america is a strong and prosperous, nation that can lead abroad. but you cannot and should not do so alone. >> this will be mr. trump first meeting with the foreign leader since becoming president. >> president trump is scheduled to speak by phone with russian president vladmeere putin today. >> this will reportedly be their first conversation since trump took office. both men have suggested they'll wok together to improve russia-us relations, us intelligence agencies have reported with high confidence that russia interfered in the 2016 elections to help trump win. >> well, today is the last day of the republican retreat in philadelphia, and more protests are planned. >> "eyewitness news" reporter trang do outside of the loews hotel where protesters marched yesterday afternoon. good morning, trang.

>> reporter: good morning, jim, jan, protesters want to send one final message to republican lawmakers will leave from the loews hotel and get on busses to head to 30th street station. this will be the third day of protests here in philadelphia. vandals spray painted three police cars parked at 13th and arch. at the wawa on the corner of broad and walnut, officers confiscate add sign that was thrown at them. just two concerning incidents, after day of peaceful demonstrations thursday. >> overall police estimate some 3,000 protesters took to the streets. while the republican congressional caucus went on inside the low hotels. few braved the crowds to show support for new president who addressed republican lawmakers around 1:00 p.m. >> this is ridiculous, the guy hasn't even been president for a week, give him a chance. he will start moving things. i guess people don't like him. >> many gathered, spoke out against republican efforts, to repeal the affordable care act

without a viable alternative and other proposed cuts. >> he is talking about getting rid of the aca, and i depends on that as an independent self-employed artist for my healthcare. also talking about getting rid of the national endowment for the arts, which is going to hurt my employment. >> i'm person, cancer survive over, avenue pre-existing condition, i'm not on fire, i'm not a building, i'm person, and i think it is really important for our lawmakers to realize they're dealing with people's lives. and they don't seem to care. >> police reported no arrests, and just one civil citation in the demonstrations yesterday. meanwhile the protest scheduled for today is at 11:00 a.m. outside of 30th street station. but for now, live in center city, i'm trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", jim, jan, back to you. >> thank you, trang. well the president's comments while in philadelphia are still stirring up controversy. >> and at yesterday's republican retreat, he said this about the city's crime rate. >> just look at the 30 largest cities in the last year alone,

the murder rate is increased by an estimated 14%, here in philadelphia, the murder rate has been steady, let me just -- terribly increased. and then you look at chicago, what is going on in chicago? that is why we will continue to stand with the incredible men and women of law enforcement. >> now here the city crime numbers, according to the philadelphia police department's website. through january 25th, of this year, 27 people have been murdered. that's up 37% increase in homicides, compared to this time last year. in 2016, philadelphia had 277 murders, down by three, from 2015. philadelphia inquirer reports that crime in the city is at its lowest level in decades. well, philadelphia mayor jim kenney shot back at president trump's remarks in a statement in part saying our homicides are, in fact, slowly declining, and while we are

not satisfied with even our current numbers, we are handicapped by republican refusal to enact any kind of common sense gun control, and by their obsession with turning our police officers into ice agents. well, president trump chief strategist isn't holding back whether it comes to the new administration ongoing feud with the media. in a rare interview with the new york times, says the media is, quote, the opposition party, and should keep it mouth shut and just listen for awhile. >> well, believes the media still doesn't understand why donald trump won the election. president trump reportedly lashed out at the national park service after re tweet about his inaugural crowd size to barack obama in 2009. the president called is her have i cents chief directly, and ordered him to produce pictures proving the media lied about the attendance numbers. a spokesman for the park service confirmed the call thursday, but declined to reveal the details. conversation. in other news the engineer involved in a deadly train

cash in port richmond is suing amtrak for more than $50,000. brandon boston driving the speeding train when it derailed in may 2015 killing eight people and injuring more than 200 others. he says amtrak did not address reports that people were throwing projectiles at trains. he claimed something hit his train making him disoriented or unconscious. the federal investigators say boston was distracted by reports that something hit another train, but his train was not hit. >> meantime investigators now say another amtrak engineer involved in a deadly crash near chester tested positive for marijuana after the crash. two maintenance workers died when the amtrak train being driven by 47 year old alexander hunter slammed into a back april. investigators also say maintenance crew failed to follow safety procedures and that amtrak let work go on without a detailed safety plan. hunter is no longer with amtrak. >> well, new this morning: flames destroy portions of a

astronaut gust grissom, edmond white and roger taffy were killed during a launch rehearsal at cape kennedy on january 27th, 1967. apollo one module erupt in the flames, blamed on electrical malfunction. >> new jersey education officials say the 21 school district have reported elevated levels of lead in their drinking water. the department of education announced these findings at a hearing with state lawmakers yesterday. officials did not say which districts are affected. the state for for $10 million for lead testing last year, schools must complete the test by july. a hotel collapses, straight into swollen river, in peru. this happened wednesday after ten straight hours of rain. the 3-story buildings stood along the river edge, been evacuated earlier. there were no injuries. >> that is amazing footage. >> incredible. happy no one was hurt. >> exactly. so justin, what's my weekends going to look like.

>> pretty quiet, little windy. keep the hair spray. >> it is, right behind me here. >> were you loading up this morning. of course that's a good thing, still dealing with gusts up to 30 miles per hour today and into the weekend, and we are moving back into colder pattern, little more typical for the middle of winter. what we can expect, low 50's coming at us any time soon. this morning, though, up in the lehigh vale, live look at bethlehem, showing main street there, flags blowing there, with the westerly winds, coming in, temperatures not that cold right now. 40 degrees officially in allentown at this hour, 43 in philadelphia at the airport, 31 mount pocono. that's the colds he is temperature, now these are the actual numbers. not factoring in the winds. windchill values are about five to 10 degrees colder than that. but there is some combed i air to the north and west, pittsburgh state college at and below freezing, same deal, in buffalo this hour. we have push of cold air moving in over the lakes, a lot of snow showers breaking out across western pennsylvania, into central pennsylvania. some of those getting into the

poconos, this morning, into the afternoon. they shouldn't reach the lehigh valley or delaware valley. so generally just partly sunny skies throughout your day today. overall our pattern is going to be quiet. noticeably cooler. winds gusting mid 20's, to near 30 miles per hour during the after innocent hours. out of the wets, the win continues tonight. evening plans, headed out around town, still going to be breezy. wear the heavier coat. windchill values down to the 20's, wind energy sticks around for the first half of the weekends. windchill gusting over 20 miles per hour during the day saturday. so like i said, close to the average today. temperatures still above mid and upper 40's, partly sunny skies, the flow continues out of the west northwest next few days, that's slowly bridges in the colder air. few degrees cooler tomorrow in the 40's. sunday partly sunny, still in the four's, here's the next weather maker, not too much early neck week, brinking in more clouds than shot of colder air. so this is what it feels like. factor in the winds. into the afternoon, low to mid 30's at best. so some par shall windchills out there this afternoon, tonight, we will be feeling like 20's, through the

overnight. then same deal tomorrow. windchill values into the 30's, even though the highs are going to be above average. so today, windy, cooler, partly sunny skies, 48 degrees should do it for the high temperature for philadelphia. tonight, still breezy, cold, partly cloudy. first time we will be at or below freezing looks like for philadelphia, in about a week. so it's been a while. we have the break from the colds air. overall weekend, not bad. mid 40's saturday, 43 sunday, monday the coldest day at 38 degrees. then wednesday we could see a period of some light rain or snow, as a weak disturbance moves through the region, overall pattern looking quiet. but things pretty hot at the philly auto show, hot cars out there, meisha, clerking it out this morning, what's happening? >> hey, justin, i don't know about you, but there is no where else i would rather be than the 116th annual philly auto show. and i got to tell you, with over 700 different models here, we are in automobile

>> well, according to new data, players in the nfl were a little bit safer this season, the league says the number of players suffering from concussions has declined. they say overall concussions for the pre-season and regular season were down from 275 in 2,015 to 2,044 last year, nfl believes more self reporting from players was a big reason for the six and a half cents decline. >> well the six remembers celebrating the chinese new year, which arrives tonight at midnight. and this is the year of the rooster. >> i know us guys were all wondering who this little guy s so the sixers sent us this cute little rooster and the shirt that jim has on. that's the shirt players will be wearing during the pre-game warm up, tonight. the game versus the rockets will be broadcast to millions of people in china. how cool is that? >> i feel like i'm on qvc. >> i know, i think we have to name this little guy. tweet us, let us know. >> tweet us in the next few minutes, we'll give him a name.
