12:02 pm
>> the storm is very swiftly pulling away. so, it is primarily at this point in a new england issue, when we start things off by looking very quickly here at storm scan3, what you will find is the back edge already moved out. so, it did move through quickly than originally anticipated with the back edge of the snow, but we will take that. as a result of the fact that rain really lasted up until 6:00 a.m. this morning, in the city, that really ended up helping to limit our snowfall totals here in philadelphia. so to the north, did you pretty well. we will get snowfall totals bit later on. here is all that's left of our winter alert. winter storm warnings still posted for good portion of the garden state right through this afternoon, but that, too, now that the storms pulling away may expire little early. low three's where we stands up and down i-95. the wind making it feel heck of a lot colder than that. with the winds, on top of the fact that the temperature will continue to drop, with time here, into tonight, temperatures are going to stay basically below freezing all day long, guys. so any of the accumulated snow that we do still have out there will turn icy, with
12:03 pm
time. now is actually really good time to get your shoveling done, salting, because anything that's left behind later tonight specially, is going to re-freeze. and i do think that the p.m. rush, not to mention tomorrow's morning drive, very likely to still be pretty icy out there. please keep that in mind as you make your travels out and about. meantime at least the storm is leaving, and with more on that, some of the dymelor takes went into with this pattern change, is near to lauren case. >> i the first fact how we went from 60s to measurable snowfall, incredibly four full storm system. but also coming in to play, we have cold temperatures. it is winter so temperatures less than 40 degrees most areas across the delaware vale. just like it takes a long time for ocean temperatures to warm up, not until late summer, down the shore, same case, one day of 60s not going to warm the aoun for area of grounds up in a matter of a day with this 60 agree temperatures, so the colds soil temperatures played a role, also something we call ivan tiff cooling.
12:04 pm
we had the initial rain to start, air is very dry, so we see evaporation of the rain, it cools the surrounding air, contributing to those chilly conditions and also snowfall intense tiff, snowfall rates one to twoinches per hour, snow laying on top of cold snow, and it piled up, that's the reason, jim, we went from 60s yesterday, to an accumulating snow today. >> thanks so much, lauren for the update. this morning snow and rain mix created dangerous conditions on the road, hearing of hundreds of accidents with state police throughout the area. meisha johnson in the traffic center to update what drivers are facing this noon. meisha? >> quite the roller coaster indeed. but the good news is now we look outside to the roadways, actually looking okay, it doesn't mean we're accident free. we do have one out there. southbound, baltimore pike, you can see penndot kind of whipping around the camera looking to see if there is anything else out there. but just know there is an accident out there. blocking the intersection of 202 south at baltimore pike. plus we want to give you sneak peak, kind of looking around
12:05 pm
in the area, waist going on here, schuylkill at spring garden, you can see pushing in the eastbound direction toward center sit what i you are looking at. not too bad. ninety-five before girard, same story there, you can see the snow, more off to the grassy surfaces not so much on the interstates and highways. but we have some freezing going on, so you will have some icy patches. ninety-five by the airport, what you are looking a there, pushing in the southbound direction looking okay, blue route at route one, actually looking real nice there. but again, we do have to be very careful as well as those blacktop surfaces sometimes ice. and we cannot see them. speed restrictions talking about this all morning long, some if not most of them have lifted. new jersey turnpike, 06 miles per hour from the delaware to turnpike, 35 miles from the pa turnpike to new york, heads up on. that will these are bridge speeds. this is where we still have speed restrictions in play, ben franklin bridge, walt whitman, betsy ross, commodore, 25 miles per hour. delaware memorial bridge, however, is around 40, right now, so looking okay there. and just reminder again on septa several buses detoured, special schedules, until this is extended by the way until

>> back on "eyewitness news," beautiful snow covered site in philadelphia. you're looking at the iconic boathouse row. the schuylkill river, pretty this noon. katie this thing moved out really fast. >> it did, yes. pretty much gone by 10:00 a.m. from philly, and good portion of even new jersey at that point, too, so because of the speed, and it took until 6:00 a.m. for the rain to turn to snow, our window got tightened up, so snowfall accumulations got pushed. >> oh, i'm not complaining. >> yes. that's why we didn't ends up with a foot of snow. cold air settled in. wasn't really here in time, how much, for us to get that
12:19 pm
really good accumulation in the city. we did pretty well in other spots. let me take you out, there very short list of couple of snowfall totals, shy of 8 inches, easton, p amount, pick up seven in northampton county, and a lot of four and five even 6-inch totals coming in, in west philly we ended up shy of 3 inches. so yes, not the massive snowstorm that we had anticipated but again, there were kim of factors that did ends upgoing against us, the fact that the storm was so darn speedy and sipped out of of there like that, worked against us, in terms of talking about the massive totals in the city specificalliment now in the wake of the storm system, we are facing pretty quiet pattern here. and there is granted still going to be a loft cold air to work with in the wake of the store system, the aftermath issues come in play here. but you have got some spots quite a bit of clean to up do. so briefly, greg argos said this, think about there is our very own doctor rob danoff got in contact with me to say hey, remind folks that this stuff,
12:20 pm
keep in mind, that shoveling heavy wet snow like what we saw with this storm, you should be dealing with up to 60 pounds per shovel. you want to push the snow, don't lift it. bends at the knees, use cooking spray on the shovel, it actually helps it to slide right off so not stuck to the shovel. this is an area robe i can and weight lifting combination. so it really is hard on your heart. be careful about this. in effect working with 60 pounds of shoveling over of course of 50 minutes. you could literally be removing a ton of snow. actual time, if you add it all up. wind advisories next concern. that's now into effect until 6:00 p.m. for all of these counties shaded in the tan brown. wind gusts could actually seek upward 50 miles per hour. here's where we currently stands, gusts as high as 46 at the airport, very blustery. even just the heavy wet snow, still going to blow around in this kind of winds. also, clinging to tree branches and tree limbs, as well as power lines. so there may be some scattered outages because of this. meantime though the blue skies
