ice falling from a building. forced officials, to close off a busy street. we're told police just reopened that road in the last 15 minutes. good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. the lets get out to "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt with more on the story, david. >> reporter: it is incredible that nobody was hurt here. we spotted ice chunks like this on the sidewalk, but people saw chunks much bigger then this, coming down at the 2:00 this afternoon. i want to get out of the way, to show you the scene right now. roads as you mentioned just opened up but the sidewalk on this side of the street, the l oews side of the street closed for pedestrian traffic. this all happened 2:00 o'clock in center city, major chunks of ice started to fall off the buildings, specifically where the loews hotel is. several people were walking by and driving by at the time but miraculously, nobody was hurt. witnesses say natalie size of the ice what's normal us. at the this point...

>> i thought for a half behind that people were running every where and telling the pedestrians to take cover because the ice was falling off of the roof. >> reporter: authorities say that they planned to keep this part of the sidewalk closed, until they have a better idea just to make sure all of that isis cleared, off of the top of the building. a scary story for people this afternoon. road just opened. that is good news. it caused some grid lock here in center city but bottom line police want to make sure people are avenue before they open up the sidewalk to pedestrians. reporting live, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> david, thank you. crowded race for philadelphia district attorney is down by one, incumbent seth williams says he will not the seek a third term. our that tasha brown joins us from the d.a.'s office in center city, with more on the reason on williams decision and who might try to take his place. natasha, good evening. >> reporter: well, you can tell this was a very difficult decision for the two term

philadelphia district attorney , in the meantime, the reaction really is just pouring in now, from candidates who want to take his place. in january 2010 seth williams became first african-american district attorney in the commonwealth of pennsylvania. he taught is it as a moment of ride. >> good morning, everyone. >> reporter: six years later a major announcement and an apology. >> to each and every employee of the philadelphia district attorney's office i asked again for you to accept my sincere apology, that i have let you down. >> reporter: embattled prosecutor announced he will not seek reelection for third term as philadelphia district attorney, on the heels of ethics violations. >> so my decision to accept gifts, failed to report them brought embarrassment, shame and adverse publicity to me, and unfortunately to the office for which i love. for this i will always hold deep regret in my heart. >> reporter: investigators began looking in williams personal and political finances in august of 2015,

finding a series of ethics controversies, including non- disclosing $16,500 in gifts and income. that included, $45,000 in home repairs, and he was ordered to pay a $62,000 fine just last month, largest imposed by the philadelphia poured of ethics. with williams out of the d.a. 's race in may a crowded field of candidates seek to replace him including rich ne grin who stopped by reading terminal market to drum up support. >> it is important for the office to move past scandal that has been going on the last year. it is an important day for us here in philadelphia to turn the page. >> it is certainly difficult to be district attorney when you admitly don't have the trust of the city but at least we now this nightmare will end and is there light at the end of the tunnel. >> reporter: well, there are five democratic candidates and one republican seeking the d.a.'s seat in may. in the meantime seth williams says for now he will continue to work very hard for the

citizens of philadelphia, until he leaves office. we're live from center city tonight, natasha brown for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you. three suspects facing charges for home invasion in southwest philadelphia overnight. police say that an alert neighbor called 911 just before 2:00 when they heard a loud commotion, coming from the home on 66th and green way officers arrived, and they found two, six five-year old woman had been terrorized, one was beaten, other tied up. police found three armed suspects hiding on the second floor of that home. >> they also did a phenomenal job in bringing the situation under control rather quickly. it could have been worse, going up in the second floor with three people, two armed and two separate bedrooms and rescue these two women out of the house safely and then taking these three individuals into custody safely, it is a great thing for everybody. >> police are investigating why woman may have been targeted. puppies in burlington county, new jersey are off the market, following the spread

of the dangerous and potentially deadly virus. virus began to spread at puppy mart, forcing the business to shut its doors. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan found out what is next for all of the animals. >> reporter: more than zero seven puppies are getting kind of care official this is burlington county say should have been provided all along but now closed puppy barn on route 206 in mount holly surrendered after health officials found cases of the deadly parvo virus. >> or showing mild clinical signs so the concerns are, you know, whether or not some are going to break with parvo. >> reporter: burlington county health department and spca started investigating puppy barn several weeks ago have after receiving complaints of pup business parvo a disease that attack the digestion system and cause it to the die from tea hydration. >> we have general complaints and we have had animals that we tested that tested positive >> reporter: owners made decision to shut down and earned iserd puppies, at this point they are not facing

penalties. no answer at the store friday, and to one answering the phone >> the puppy barn is temporarily closed. >> reporter: in a recent taste book post puppy barn addressed accusations they were selling sick dogs saying in part puppy barn did not willingly sell a puppy that they thought was ill. store does care. >> when they does became un health bring they were there or got at site we are not 100 percent sure but we had people complained that received animals unhealthy. >> my main concern is they have respiratory issues. >> reporter: these puppies will stay in quarantine for two weeks before they can ab adopted but on the bright side there are dozens of other dogs and cats natalie public can adopt right now. >> they are well cared for, healthy and asking them to come in. >> reporter: officials say pup barn should make good on all warranties for people who purchased puppies here and people have a hard time getting a hold of the puppy barn don't hesitate to call the county. in mount holly, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". it has been almost a year, since governor wolf signed a bill legalizing medical

marijuana in pennsylvania. now one community in delaware county may be ready to cash in on thursday a group submitted a conditional use application, in hopes of the building a medical marijuana plant in aston. the ordinance was adopted unanimously by city official whose say they understand safety concerns. >> it is pretty difficult for crime, with all of the electronic devices that are going to be involved in the operation. >> other rules for the proposed plant, it must be at least 1,000 feet away from schools, and day cares, and have no exterior evidence of a marijuana facility and it must be constantly monitored by police. new jersey governor chris christie has sign legislation aimed at preventing mortgage foreclosures on houses damage by super storm sandy. the governor criticized the word offering this bill but said he was signing it because would it rove relief to sandy victims. under this law, sandy victims could get a tell rare i stay in foreclosure proceedings.

start the weekend but as we head out it this i want to show you right the now, i don't know if to you can tell but look at the lights through can see snow is coming down in the poconos. the this is carbon county. we mentioned a little clipper, warm front lifting through producing light snow showers. now it looks like on the radar worse then it is, but you can see it coming down in the poconos. i check, readings from the lancaster airport, d.c. airport, places like that where it looks like it is snowing. no reports of any significant snow there so you will see a few flakes, flurries but likely most of that not reaching the ground. poconos and lehigh valley best chance to see it. but even in the city, south jersey don't be shocked if you outside tonight and encounter a few flurries on your way. future weather again shows most of this, anything that is actually going to be appreciable will be up in the poconos region this evening as that warm front lifts through. a few flurries further south and then that gets out of here tomorrow, not a bad day. the here's 3:00 p.m. it is not just a flat gray here. we have breaks in the cloud cover and more cloud, then sun for your saturday, and still a

nice start to the weekend. sunday, this is you why will not get any golfing in here. as we head into sunday morning we will have light rain moving this, possibly some freezing rain, snow, sleet, mix nothing the poconos but for the the rest of us even the least high will valley on south it is warm enough this is just plane rain. south of the city not seeing as much as we will off to the north but right through sunday afternoon, pockets of rain, and the threat for ice this is poconos, take you back to this ice graphic and we will show you especially up around jim thorpe, stroudsberg and sunday there is chance some spots could get a tenth of an inch of ice. good news over weekend temperatures on the way up, we will keep it there through sunday and then colder air starts to move in, especially for new england on monday, and then starts to replenish itself through middle of next week. we will start to watch the late week period, late wednesday into thursday some models showing a signal storm could be moving up the coast and it could miss us to the east. still very far away. we will keep you posted on. that definitely looking like winter may still have a few

tricks up its sleeve for new england that area getting snow on monday, and possibly another round by the end of the week. so for us, pretty quiet stretch for at least through wednesday, watch for that rain on sunday and back to the 40's monday, tuesday, wednesday and then if there is anything to watch it would be next thursday timetable but right now, it is doesn't look like a huge deal. don's up next in sports. >> one player taking blame for flyers losing ways, why winning is secondary for the sixers and garden is no place for an oak tree, resolutions, to a bizarre situation next in sports.
