very tall buildings: caused a busy stretch of market street to close for hours >> i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. david? >> reporter: jessica, about three minutes ago, more ice small chunks fell off. the sidewalk is open. you can see the sign this sign says it all. caution, falling ice. there are some police on site just to make sure things are ok. this cell phone video shows chunksive ice falling off the loewhotel in center city. bigger chunks fell off prompting authorities to immediately close the road and sidewalks. >> people were just running everywhere. telling pedestrians to take cover >> she said some of the ice chunks were the size of the car hoods. police taking no chances closed

market between 12th and 13th >> everyone was caught off guard they didn't quite know where to direct us >> plenty of people were walking around when the ice came barrelling down. >> anybody could have got hit. like, you know, we have elderly people down here walking around >> with temperatures below 30. many are concerned other buildings in center city are area might pose the same threat >> you got to worry about the cars hitting you. but really got to worry about the ice falling. >> and you see that sign right now, live on the sidewalk in front of the loew's hotel. the temperatures will get warmer. authorities say they will keep an eye on this and other buildings in the area to make sure people are safe. reporting live tonight in center city david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> david, thank you. authorities in cumberland county are investigating a police involved shooting that left one man dead.

eyewitness on the scene near south avenue in bridgeton. the officer shot the man after foot chase this afternoon. police found a gun near the victim but they have not said why they were chasing him or if he fired a shot at them >> we learned albert boscov, chairman of the department store died. it was gun by this father in 1914 and grew the company the sales in excess of one billion dollars. he was fighting pancreatic cancer. he was 87 years old. a surprise announcement from philadelphia district attorney seth williams. he said he will not seek reelection on the heals of ethics violations. he failed to disclose more than 1 $60,000 in gifts and income, including $45,000 in home repairs. he was ordered to pay a $62,000 fine last month.

"eyewitness news" alexandria hoff is live in south philly with a warning tonight. alex? >> reporter: welling jessica, during the winter months, a vehicle left outside overnight will hold about ten degrees above the outside temperatures. not so bad if you accidently left your groceries in your trunk, not so good when you go to get back inside the vehicle if it's still there. it takes about 15 minutes to comfortably warm up a vehicle >> by the time we're out the door, my car is good to go >> for those without an automatic starter that's a cold 15, but not nearly as cold as anthony got.

feeling. well, the third district has also seen a rise in vehicle thefts, police say even a small pile of change can lure a thief. reporting live in south philadelphia, alexandria hoff, cbs3 "eyewitness news." funeral services will be held tomorrow for a delaware correctional officer killed in a line of duty. loved ones of lieutenant steven floyd gathered at delaware state university for a viewing. there will be another tomorrow followed funeral services on tuesday, delaware governor john carney will announce his selection to lead an independent investigation into that incident. medical marijuana may be coming to aston delaware county. town has passed an ordinance to allow medical marijuana growing and processing. the ordinance allows for a facility in the limited industrial district and it must be at least 1,000 feet from a school or daycare center be

fully enclosed and not accessible to minors. >> this is a growing and processing operation, it is not a dispensary. >> township officials passed the ordinance after receiving an application from someone wanting to open a facility. burlington county store are off the market following the spread of a potentially deadly virus. county health officials say the parvo virus began to spread at the puppy barn in mt. holly forcing the business to shut its door, it attacks the digestive system and cause death. the store involuntarily surrendered more than 70 puppies and in a recent facebook post. the puppy barn said it did not wilmington sell a puppy that it thought was ill >> whether they were ill before they got there or at the site, we're not 100% sure.

50 this time of year. it's a nice night to be outside. let's take a look outside, roof cam from the cbs broadcast center looking out towards center city philadelphia. at little chilly but not feeling quite as cold as it did earlier. certainly not last night. the winds backed off and temperature-wise, seasonal for february. quiet outside just clouds, we do have snow happening just off to our north, stormscan 3 shows that warm front draped across portions of new england and it is snow across new york state southern new england light snow this coming on top of the snow they got. they got a lot more than we did with yesterday's storm. it's an icing on the cake, sties are clearing we're seeing a few scattered snow showers, nothing that big of a deal. maybe flurries in the lehigh valley. if you're out and about. if you're heading home, there will be chance for flakes, now that the warm front lifted,

we're getting a brisk south wind, temperatures are headed up 38 in wildwood. 35 in millville, 35 in atlantic city, 33 in philadelphia. we barely got there all day. really, not feeling too bad outside tonight and temps continue to rise. that snow will stay to the north, saturday starts with sunshine increasing clouds in the afternoon, but it's a dry day and a mild day showers develop overnight and sunday we'll have periods of rain looks light steadiest there will be the threat for ice and sleet in the poconos, scattered showers sunday afternoon and evening and then we clear it out the wind pick up but the sun returns monday. the only area that has to worry about winter weather will be the poconos region temp near freezing when the rain falls it mixes with sleet and it can freeze leading to about a ten. of an inch. temperature trends upward we have to watch this little bubble of cold air on monday that dives
