special. hello and welcome to the phillies 2017 spring training special. i'm lesley van arsdale on this 17, we'll definitely be an interesting one for the phillies, a lot of young prospects head closer to joining the team. one of the you don't know players already on the big club, maikel franco will be his first major league season. last year tied for the team leading homers with 25 and led the team with 88 rbis. he's ready to improve >> 2017 i'm glad to come in here and like i said i'm ready to go and i'm really excited. i have to come in and do everything that i can. have my team win and i'm glad when really excited to. >> they have a lot of questions. there are familiar faces for sure. a lot of views. we have faces. i sat down with mlb tom selectky

2:43 am
which clay buck holts will you get? other than that, i think jeremy hell son you know what you'll get out of him and vince >> they brought in two veteran hitters will they make a difference >> they will help t they're going to maybe take a little bit of the pressure off some of the younger guys like maikel franco for instance. saunders was an all star last year. kendricks the phillies will bounce back. you hope that at least they will be able to you know, the phillies finish last in baseball

2:45 am
to maintain say maikel franco has a barrack-out year. there's big free agent classes coming up and the phillies will have a ton of money to spend and i think they're going to hit the free agent market hard. you know, so that's the reason why they've only gone after guys on a one-year deal this off season >> expectations are kind of low. >> they won 71 games last year. if you look at some of the predictors, they will say 71 and 74. i believe they can be a 75, 76, 77 team, which isn't great but i think they can be better than a 74, win team because i think
