his brother had not come and rescued him, who knows, this could be a homicide. >> reporter: at 6:00 o'clock here's is what happening, a brother to the rescue a man tied up, left for dead for nearly two daises saved by a concern family member. tonight, officers are reviewing a very important clue as they search for the people responsible. good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is live with how this investigation is unfolding. >> reporter: jessica police say victim in this violent home invasion is lucky to be alive after those two masked men tied them up and severely beat him. that was this past friday in juniata park, tonight investigators pouring over home surveillance video that they say captured this entire crime. it is a terrifying home

invasion. >> it does appear that to be some sort of a planned attack. >> reporter: which could have turned into a murder. >> if his brother had not come and rescued him, who knows, this could be a homicide. >> reporter: 11:00 p.m. friday night, paul mayor sits in his garage on small lawn equipment engines, door opened like neighbors say he usually keeps it. >> two heals entered an opened garage wearing masks, and with a handgun. >> reporter: police say they town may or with electrical tape, stuffed a rag in his mouth and brought him to the second floor of his home in the 4700 block of neilson street in juniata where the two masked suspects beat him. >> they bludgeoned him, pistol whipping him. >> reporter: the attack happening in less than 15 minutes but mayor laid suffering for nearly 48 hours until his brother discovered him. >> his brother, thinking that something was wrong, having not heard from his brother, came to the house and entered through a upper story window,

and found his brother in the back bedroom. >> reporter: investigators say mayor's home fully wired with working surveillance camera. >> most of the incident if not all of it has been captured on videotape. >> reporter: neighbors hope that video helped police quickly find the suspects. >> this guy has been here for years, helped people, you know , and for someone to to this to him. it is horrible. >> i will keep him in high ray ers, that is all i can do. >> reporter: mayor's brother tells me paul has a broken nose, broken bones in his face and injuries to both his arms and legs but fortunately tonight, he is expect to recover. we're live at police headquarters i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". greg, thank you for that. new castle county woman said she was abduct, sexually assaulted and taken on a wild ride for cash but she may not be the first victim. police say the alleged sexual assault happened at this apartment complex in wilmington just before 8:00 o'clock sunday night.

authorities say man had a gun and forced the victim into her own apartment where he demanded money. he then reportedly forced the woman into her car and made her drive them to several atm 's in pike creek to withdraw cash. >> it bothers me. i felt so safe in here. now i will look over my shoulder. >> new castle county police now believe that the same man is responsible for similar attack on february 13th, at the top of the hill apartments on pryor road. officers are looking for a white male between 5 feet eight and 5 feet 10 inches tall of medium bill. president trump has tapped a man with ties to our area as his next national security advisor, the pick is army lieutenant general hr mcmaster the president made the announcement to day in palm beach, florida. mcmaster was born in philadelphia in 1962 and graduated from valley forge military academy this 1980 and to take we talk with his dad who lives in brookhaven delaware county. >> i'm very proud of him and

d.a.'s office with details on this, joe? >> reporter: jessica, good evening. tariq el-shabazz was seth williams right-hand hand until he did step down one week ago, now trying to succeed williams as district attorney. now here's the thing, el-shabazz came out of the news conference today acknowledging there is some baggage this is form of the massive tax liens but he tells the rest he is handling it. >> i have never done anything criminal. tax tenth is civil, not criminal. >> reporter: tariq el-shabazz a long time defense attorney and more recently thumb two in district attorney seth williams office fires back when asked if $190,000 in tax liens, would threaten the integrity of the district attorney's office. >> it is a debt that i owe, there is no doubt about it, never ran there it. it was a debt based on honesty , in doubt about it. i didn't go around corner to try to skim anything. >> reporter: tax record pulled by cbs-3 show a list of liens filed by irs, el-shabazz would

not advertise cuss them except to say he has a repayment land some in the crowd, stacked with his supporters, grew tired of reporters inquiries. >> unaudible. >> reporter: in a campaign biography, el-shabazz has described one of the finest litigators in america, his career began in the philadelphia d.a.'s office before he moved to private defense work. he told the crowd he will bring a different attitude, sensitivity to the office, one his supporters say that won't solely focus on incarceration like previous administrations. >> the idea is lock up, lock up, lock up. >> reporter: report el-shabazz was pressed with his relationship with seth williams. he announced earlier he would not seek a third term. williams has been talked by an ethics investigation over gifts by friend, that which triggered a $60,000 fine, from the ethics board, the largest penalty leveled against the city officials. >> please do not try to put

friend took over part of the independent mall today, on the cbs-3 healthwatch the mission to help, fight childhood cancer, a national tour kick off today in philadelphia health reporter stephanie stahl is here with more on the festivity. >> it was very festive down there, it is all about crushing childhood cancer, and that put this tourist aiming to to, it is a serious mission but this group is making it fun. >> this will work out great. >> to you want to be a courageous knight. >> yes. >> six year-old laylah mostly is knighted by is your brave heart asthmas cots for a cure kicks off its national tour on independent mall. >> they are very funny, and they make me happy, and they are great. >> reporter: layla was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer last year. >> help you get the a diagnosis like that, it is just so overwhelming. the mascots for a cure are such a blessing, they come in, and they let the kid forget for a little while where they are. >> reporter: mascots from

professional and collegiate sports team are uniting for a tour to raise money and aware ness to fight pediatric cancer. >> reggie wants a million-dollar. >> that would be great. >> reporter: anything you can do to help will help us on this tour. >> reporter: derek who put together mascots for a cure said they will stop in 36 cities in 48 days, 36 is the number of children diagnosed with cancer, every single day in the united states. >> these kid have so much joy on their face, so much love in their heart and that is exactly what mascots for a cure is about. it is to bring joy, love, happy this is giving them courage that they need. >> reporter: part of the fun included a 362nd twisting challenge. >> the main thing, when, you are going through something like this is just to keep up hope. hope is so important, and to try to be as positive as you can. >> reporter: after completing chemotherapy and radiation there is good news for laylah and her family. >> my cancer is all gone. i'm so happy.

>> reporter: um, um. we are all happy for her too. she and her family live this delaware. she was treated at chop as part of the tour, 250 mascots will be joining the effort in tive rent cities around the county. money raised does a number of things, including paying medical expenses, for families hoff have children with cancer >> fantastic. >> wonderful. >> there were lots of other kid. >> laylah. >> yes, that is great. leading the way. that is it. >> stephanie, thank you. children's hospital of philadelphia celebrates black history month by honoring a 12 year-old girl on a mission to make a different. >> she's more than just a girl next door she's working to make sure that black girls from coast to coast, feel empowered by the main characters that they read about in books. >> on tuesday, we go to the library.

and people are here. >> children's hospital of philadelphia, welcomed marley during their black history month celebration, and they honored her work as the founder of #a thousand black girl books, and the goal, to distribute thousands of books to families, which feature african-american girls assent rally with characters. >> the story went viral. >> reporter: marley took home hospital's rising star award, her efforts in 2016 resulted in a collection of more than 9,000 books, to toe nate to young girls. >> we'd like to present her with this plaque, on behalf of children's hospital of philadelphia. >> reporter: but marley is just getting started. the young literary advocate is publishing her own activism

70's. the lets take a look outside, beautiful evening, still on is light in the skies, 6:17 which is another indication that we are heading pretty quickly, toward springtime, and of course not the too far from the start of daylight saving time that would be weekend of march 11th and 12th. so just a few more weeks and then days will be daylight i should say will be lasting an extra hour in the evening, but we will take a little while to get light in the morning. storm scan three shows clear skies outside right now, this problems, that clear sky and light breeze, it is recipe for cold. it will be a chilly night as temperatures drop down below, the freezing mark, so a chilly start to tomorrow morning but otherwise we're quiet across the eastern half of the country this trent here, it is our heat generator pumping southwest wind across the region. there is a divide between northeast where we are and areas just off to the south and west, thanks to the east wind. back door cold front that brought slight cooling today and we will feel that tomorrow but once wind switches on wednesday is he we will start to get heat back this here.

i want to briefly mention california, it has been a deluge over past several days and rain still coming down heavily with heavy mountain snow. look at these rain amounts. we will look in just a moment. but for us our february precipitation deficit has been below average. we are an inch below average in the month of february. the last measurable rainfall or they fall was on february 12th. and not much more on the way, contrast that with these rainfall totals across california, since thursday we will see pockets, even around los angeles of over three or 4 d more on the way, through the next several days. they are dealing with some pretty major problems, there, due to flooding. as far as we're concern temperatures start to sore gannon wednesday as we get in the southeasterly wind and then thursday, it looks like our record breaker chance for late day or evening thunder shower but also, this winter warmth, pretty insane, our record is 69 from 1977, it looks like we can smash that by 3 degrees on thursday with a high of 72 here in philadelphia. it should stay relatively try

through next several days just that chance for thunder shower on thursday. so tomorrow, 52, then jump up to the 60's. we're kind of going in 10's here. fifty-two to 63 to 72 on thursday, friday is warm as well, in fact, if we get more sunny think it could be warmer then 64. we will keep an use on that. next cold front comes through saturday our best chance for rain in the seven day forecast and then it will get cooler, but still not cold, sunday into hon. >> um-hmm. >> wow. >> that is great. >> looking at that california tar and i see smiles, smile emojis every day. >> very good. >> oh, all right what is going on in sports. >> whole lot to get to a reason to boogie here in philadelphia. one of the carson's work out buddies, may look good in eagles green. details coming up next in
