"eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is in camden tonight where sentence was handed down, david. >> reporter: i have covered federal court for 10 years and never seen so many supporters show up for defendant, more than 100 people begged the judge to have mercy, in the end, he sentenced charles bengal to 15 months behind bar and his wife, to three years

probation. it is an ocean city i institution, and now owners of manco and manco will go to federal prison for tax evasion anything to say to your supporters, anything to say to the people that count on you. anything to say, sir. >> reporter: more than 100 family and friends came from several states to support charles bengal and his wife, they were sentenced in camden after dozens spoke on their behalf. >> i have never met anybody with that kind of energy, somebody that puts as much into their hour to hour, day to day life as he does. >> reporter: members of the law enforcement even showed up to beg the judge for mercy. charles benning will pleaded guilty in 2015 to restructuring his financial transaction toss avoid reporting. 's voided almost $91,000 in taxes, his wife, mary also pleaded guilty admit ago this she lied to irs agents. authorities say she deposited business cash into her personal accounts and lied about the amount. >> there is no doubt he engaged in criminal conduct by

failing to report his income on his tax returns. >> reporter: inside the defense attorneys argued his clients were pillars of the ocean city community, who mentored kids, and donated thousands of dollars. the future of the popular restaurant is now in limbo as charles and mary bengals know their faith. >> reporter: they had a big influence on the ocean city community but in the end they hurt the community and the united states for not paying their taxes. charles bengal will report to prison in september, after the summer season. bengals have to pay just under $250,000 to the irs in restitution. reporting live, at federal courthouse in camden, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you, david. judge in bill cosby's sexual assault case has limited number of accusers who can testify during the entertainer's june trial. prosecutors will only be able to call, one of the 13 past accusers. but one witness who can testify says that she was

assaulted by the now 79 year-old in 1996. the decision comes as cosby prepares for another court hearing on monday. the judge could rule on defense request to move the trial out of montgomery county , or pick a jury outside of the area. officials in new jersey, approved a controversial pipeline, and hundreds of residents showed up to voice their frustration frustrations >> shame on you, shame on you. shame on you. >> that was the scene, from this morning's contentious meeting in which the new jersey pinelands commission voted nine to five to approve a 22-mile gas pipeline. those opposed to it say it could harm the environment, others believed it could create jobs. >> shame, shame, shame on you. >> it will create a lot of jobs, it is cleanest technology that is available to us now. >> we will appeal merits of the decision today, on the merits of whether this project meets pinelands regulations which we think it very clearly does not.

67 degrees in philadelphia right now. still 70 in allentown. it is 68 in reading. it is cooler at the coast thanks to the cooler ocean water and southeast breeze keeping it in the 50's in atlantic city and wildwood. not a lot of changes heading our way. we have mild temperatures tonight and tomorrow before things start to change, in the meantime, a tied record in philadelphia smashed record in mount pocono. reading with the tides record. new record of 77 degrees in allentown. but take a look at that front over the great lakes heading our waste tomorrow. your weather headlines tracking some strong storms. i will tell you when they get here and about the dramatic temperature drop that follows those storms, and we will even take you into early march. that is all coming up with the seven day forecast when i join you inside. >> kate, see you then. fire tears through a ramada inn in vial land sending a police officer and hotel guest to the hospital. first responders were called to the scene on west landis avenue around 2:00 this morning. fire officials say that they arrived to find some guests

hanging from the second floor window. other guests some with small children escaped with just the clothes on their backs. >> we didn't plan to go but in the end there was way too much smoke, and other stuff going on that we just got out. >> worry about packing up, it was so thick, the smokey wasn't staying in there. >> cause remains under investigation but it does not appear to be suspicious. a ben simmons setback sixers fans did not want to hear, like, first overall pick will not see the court this year. sports director don bell joins us with the news that came out today, don. >> not good. ben simmons is sixers first overall pick since allen iverson in 1996 but his impact on the court will not be felt this season. simmons broke his foot the last day of training camp, projected to miss three months but the injury hasn't completely healed. so, today, general manager brian colangelo talked about the loss and how simmons is handling it.

>> i just try to do something i love most. >> reporter: caesars riveria passion is painting murals. >> i just bigger the painter, the nicer it is for me the feeling that i experience. >> reporter: you have seen some of his work including this mural commissioned by world meeting of families for the pope's 2015 philadelphia visit. >> that was a great experience >> reporter: now this renowned murallist is paint forgo a different perspective. >> i'm happy with the what we used for the paint every day. north, south, east, west but when you go into other directions, higher or above or to the ground it is i have different feeling. >> reporter: he has created this mural of freeda car low moving around the world with her art it would be a image of her coming to the united states.

week ebb on the healthwatch the pink invitation allies back in town. >> health reporter stephanie stahl is there for the first day of action. >> big doings out there thousands of gymnast between the age of eight and 18, they are competing this weekend and they are also, helping raise money and awareness for women fighting breast cancer. decked out in their pink outfits gymnast spread out across the convention center for ninth annual pink invitational a sanctioned competition that is raising money for breast cancer patients. >> the love that other people have given us has been overwhelming and we're touched by what beauty we have seen in the world, with the ugliness of cancer. >> reporter: karen was diagnosed in june, her hair is just starting to grow back after chemo, emily is oldest of her three young children. >> when she first told us, i was really nervous because i had never men about it. >> reporter: report nine year-old, from connecticut is a gymnast given a pink unity grant. >> it is empowering, feels

good, reminder of how tough it has been. >> reporter: for emily competing here was a practice session on the uneven bars is a nice distraction. >> i like bars the best because like you get to swing on them, and, jump on them. >> reporter: 3500 gymnast are competing over the weekend, money raised are expected to be a half million-dollar, will provide breast cancer patients with complementaries therapies >> they are making a difference. they are changing lives and filling a gap of, you know, what isn't included in the standard of care right now. >> reporter: susan is a former gymnastics coach who survived breast cancer with the help of acupuncture whiz typically isn't covered so she is starting the pink invitational and group called unite for her to help pay for those kinds of services for other patients. >> i felt like there was a gap in the medical community so i felt like there had to be a better way to help women get restored after treatment. >> reporter: pink invitational runs through weekend with big crowds, expected for the top level gymnast, and a special,

tomorrow morning and then tomorrow afternoon and evening this front you see right here producing gusty thunderstorms over portions of ohio, indiana and michigan, that will come through for us tomorrow afternoon, and that is going to be our change maker, bringing in a very big drop in temperatures like part two of the weekend. lets time this out. overnight we have clouds rolling in, we have some fog as well. wake up tomorrow morning not to the bright blue skies we saw today but to clouds, fog and a couple showers. thinks around noon time. especially east of the city we will see breaks in the cloud cover around noon time. you will probably see best chance to get outside to see sun around philadelphia will be around two or 3:00 o'clock but keep an eye to the western sky. because here comes these storms. once they start to rip through here they will come through here fast and furious. so 4:00 o'clock out on a trail taking a hike, on forbidden drive or another spot in our area or see these dark clouds make sure you can get off trail and stay safe. you see the structure here? is there an indication these could produce strong, gusty winds as well as brief heavy downpours, and, of course,

lightening. dangerous conditions possible between three and 7:00. after eight or so it clears coast, skies clear quickly and temperatures drop quickly as well. your timing 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. these storms are strong. gusty wind, heavy rain, biggest threats downpours, gusty wind and maryland rate risk for lightening with these storms tomorrow. then as we head through the start of the weekend we will get down and backup again. chilly here on sunday but watch how the jet stream lifts back to the north heading in to tuesday and wednesday and we are back above average again for the first day of march. overnight, partly cloudy, foggy, mild, 54 degrees is your low. for tomorrow we are still above average but gusty thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, especially and wake up to a whole different season, object sunday. we're back to where we should be in february, still a nice day but still definitely will be a little bit of a slap in the face. you will need jacket sunday. monday 54. back to the 60's to start
