this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. video after funnel cloud in northeastern pennsylvania. severe weather reaks havoc and today the national weather service will survey the damage. also ahead chaos at mardi gras event when a truck slams into a crowd of parade goers. >> and a day after several news organizations were barred from white house press briefing the president designs invitation for the association dinner. today is sunday, february 26th, good morning, everyone, i'm jan carabeo. back to reality today. chill this morning after strong storms move through our area. so let's get right over to justin drabick with the eyewitness weather forecast, good sunday morning, justin, at my house yesterday i saw

rain, winds, even some hail. >> these storms did mean business. we talked about it, there were people shoveling about an inch deep of hail in the poconos, roofs blown off some buildings, north of the sit my the lehigh valley. it brought a big change, we feel it already. back to typical february stuff. we were spoiled by the warm weather, if you liked. that will we have a shot at 70 degrees once again this week before we see another shift in our pattern. but today, kind of typical for the end of february temperatures back down to the 40's. little cold though this morning. at least compared to what it has been. thirty-eight at the airport in philadelphia, we have the northwest wind at 16 so win chill values, 29 degrees, wild, talk about windchills for this time of year. thirty-five the actual temperature in the lehigh valley, 26 mount pocono, that's good news for the ski resorts, start cranking out some snow the next couple of nights, fill up the base again, mid 30's in the suburbs, quakertown, willow grove. we have some gusts up to

around 30 miles per hour with the west northwest winds. that will be the trends today, stays on the windy side with gusts to near 30 through the morning into the afternoon. again the windchills this morning headed out the next few mornings, feels cold, mid 20's, 14 mount pocono, little rough for the morning work out or run if you are headed outside. but at least dry on storm scan3. we do have some clouds over us, snow showers, really across the mountains of central and western pennsylvania, so we'll see mixture of sun and clouds today. temperatures seasonable, 48 degrees, mid 30's, 30's in the poconos, run at 07 degrees later this week. i'll let you know coming up in the seven day in a few minutes. back to you. >> meantime this morning, people in luzerne county are getting a look he after meat of severe weather. possible tornado touched down saturday afternoon. take a look at this, this is video that appears to show funnel cloud near dupont outside of scranton, right now the red cross sheltering several counties damaged.

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff shows us what people are waking up to this morning. >> 110 miles northwest of philadelphia, images like this, followed the storm, a car crushed, and a home brought to its base, as result of high winds. downed trees littered neighborhoods throughout luzerne county and blocked already swamped roadways. emergency personnel attempt topped close flooded routes that some drivers pressed on despite dangers. >> people fly into it, don't realize it, if you don't have good tires, your car will die. >> paralyzed by the flood waters. >> this driver hit such heavy rain and winds on the road that her windshield wiper flew off. >> well, here it is. so crazy wetter. >> for those who lost far more, it was a devastating blow. while residents in luzerne and lackawanna counties are warned of the dangerous possibility, the national weather service will have to examine the path of this damage to determine if

christopher columbus boulevard, just before 4:00. rescuers say one person was shot in the leg. the person was taken to jefferson hospital. no word on that person's condition this morning. the shooting happened after an argument there. >> new orleans police have suspect in custody after a car plowed into a crowd watching a mardi gras parade there. twenty-eight people were hurt watching the parade. in the mid city saturday afternoon, five victims are in guarded condition. police say it looks like a case of driving while intoxicated. president trump says he will not be attending the white house correspondence dinner this year. he made that announcement in a tweet saturday, and wished everyone a great evening on april 29th. the black tie event is an annual tradition for presidents, reporters, and washington insiders. trump's decision follows increasingly tense relations between the white house and the media. several news outlets have also pulled out of the event to protest president trump's treatment of the press. meantime, the democratic party has new leader, tom

perez, labor secretary un president owe bamm, a was elected chairman of the democratic national committee at their meeting in atlanta. the new chairman's top task is turning around a party, that suffered devastating loses this pace election. >> a great american, mr. tom perez. >> members of the democratic national committee picked new national chairman saturday. who they hope will turn opposition against president trump into election victories. it took hundreds of state party leaders and activists two rounds of voting to pick tom perez as chair. perez served as labor secretary under president obama. >> i know we can win the battles ahead. i know we will win the battles ahead when we put our values forward, when we lead together. >> president trump had hundred watch florida governor rick scott in wisconsin governor scott walker at the white house, following his speech friday to the conservative political action conference. >> a few days ago i called the fake news, the enemy of the

yesterday, not record, but nice little treat. if you don't like the cold. but back to typical february stuff today. we do have another warm upcoming at us, another run at 70 degreesment little price though, talking about some rain though coming with those warm temperatures. but this morning, big difference, if you're about to step outside. the winds has kick up, out of the west and northwest, behind that strong cold front which brought the severe storms to the region. looking live at bet him right now from the hotel bethlehem main street northampton county, got hit pretty hard, lehigh county, a lot of storm reports with hail, roof damage to a lot of building up into the lehigh valley with the strong winds gusting over 60 miles per hour yesterday. but today, whole lot quieter, just have to deal with gusty wind to up 30 miles per hour, so here are the headlines, today, seasonable, temperatures back down into the 40's, maybe upper 40's for the warmest spots, highest temperature 40 degrees. like i said we warm it up each day this week. looks like wednesday the warmest day, and by the end of

the week we get another drop in temperatures. so little something for everybody. couple of rain chances to talk about for the middle of the week, as well, with the warmer air arriving. look at the change in the temperatures, outside yesterday at this time, we were well to the 50's, now in the mid 30's, millville, 37 degrees, and the capitol city of delaware, around philadelphia, similar numbers. so breeze this morning, kind of mixing up the air little bit. so we don't have any real cold spots. so everybody kind of hanging out in the low to mid 30's, that's to the north and west. quakertown 34 degrees, mount pocono checking in at 26 after some spring skiing conditions over the past several days. so back from winter up in the poconos, can start making some snow again. this is what it really feels like, this is key. outside feels like 20's in some locations, 25 allentown, 28 wilmington, delaware, may need the gloves, and going for the bike ride or just walking the dog outside this morning, big difference. look at the flow coming in off the wells. haven't seen that in a while, that's some snow showers breaking out in the mountains of western pennsylvania coming

off the lakes and up-state new york. clear skies over eastern new jersey right now, some clouds will move in, the morning into the afternoon with the cold air aloft in the atmosphere, but we will be dry, generally mix every sunday and clouds, high pressure dominating our weather. so that blocks any big storms from developing in near future. eventually that high drift off shore. you notice clouds building monday, sign of milder air returning in the upper atmosphere, moves down to the surface, when it arrives we will see the next storm system, as women, couple of showers possible on tuesday. not big deal. won't be all day wash out at all. here comes the next warmfront, pushes through later tuesday into wednesday. wednesday is the day we can make another run at 70 degrees. so, temps today, we struggle to get back to the mid, i think we hit upper four's in some spots, especially with the westerly winds. so comes down off the mountains, when that happens, air actually heats up little bit more. so the mild usually doesn't pick it up. may have to add couple of degrees. tonight it does get cold by 8:00 outside feel the difference. thirty's returning to the region tomorrow. chilly, i think a lot of

suburbs are down by the freezing mark, been a while since we hit that. then tomorrow look at that, back to the 50's, running almost 10 degrees back above average. so, today, windy, colder, 48 degrees. tonight, chilly night. mostly clear. mid 30's r, for the city, colder in the suburbs. extended forecast, showers around tuesday, better chance wednesday high near 70. by the end of the week we cool back down again, saturdays high near 40. >> on this cbs-3 health watch now, new product to help tame frizzy hair invented by a frustrated dad. health reporter stephanie stahl explains. >> reporter: for people with frizzy hair, humidity is the enemy. >> every morning we would have to brush it through, and it was pain. >> thirteen year old aldan clark's hair used to look a lot different. >> it was like a rat's nest every morning. >> every morning was a struggle for aldan, and her single dad, who is a doctor. >> i would see the humidity go up and the hair would get bigger. i would think as scientist why is this? what's happening with this?

today different story. typical for the end every fen. still not that bad though. this is what we're dealing with for the second half of the winter. not bad. temperatures in the four's, little chilly with the wind, though, but big drop in the numbers, compared to this time yesterday. almost 20 degrees colder in philadelphia, 26 in allentown, so you get the picture, back to reality, what we're saying compared to the past couple of days with high temperatures well into the 70s, hit 73 yesterday. not a record though before those storms came in. those storms meant business, and they really are bringing in the colder air. thirty-five the current temperature in the lehigh valley, 26 in mount pocono. upper 30's around philadelphia, suburbs, kind of in the same situation right now, mid 30's, quakertown, willow grove. really no cold spots just because we have a breeze, which is mixing up the air little bit. those winds will gust to about 30 miles per hour through the morning, into the afternoon, so that's taken little bit of edge off these temperatures, so it does feel like the 20's on exposed skin, so windchills this morning, generally mid upper 20's, look back to the 30's by the afternoon.

but over the past 18 hours, you can see, storms ripped through the region, a lot of damage report, numerous hail reports, roofs blown off, many buildings, especially up into the lehigh valley. now just left with some clouds over us, currently, and then we will see some sunshine this morning, but your temperature breakdown, struggle to get back to the low 40's by late morning, afternoon highs, should make it up into the mid upper 40's at best, for the warmest spot today. soy we go 48 for philadelphia, 46 at the shore. upper 30's, in the poconos, good news for those ski resorts, you can crank out the snow if they want the next couple of nights, it will be cold enough. we will make another run at 70 t another chance to see that milder wet they are week, we will talk about when it arrives coming up in the full forecast in just a few more minutes, jan, back to you. >> thank you, very good. clean up underway in luzerne county, that's after severe weather left a trail of destruction yesterday. this is what people near wilkes-barre are dealing with right now. broken trees are blocking roadways, some roads are

impassable, thanks to flood waters. emergency responders tried to close flooded streets, but some stubborn drivers kept going despite the danger. >> what we don't realize that if you don't have good, your car will die. >> the national weather will be on scene to figure out if it was indeed an actual tornado. meanwhile the red cross is a significance several families forced from their homes because of the damage. the storms also made an impact to the west, this is look at some of the damage in lancaster county. the area is dealing with broken trees, power lines, a funnel cloud was also spot in the columbia near the susquehanna river, it has not yet been confirmed whether that was actual tornado, wind gusts reportedly reached 60 miles per hour. >> and in other news this morning, bill cosby is facing a judge again this week. he'll nab montgomery county courtroom tomorrow morning. cosby's lawyers are trying to move the trial out of montgomery county.

they are, it will make it difficult for cosby to get a fair trial. now, judge will decide whether the trial should be moved or if jurors should be brought in from outside the area. cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting andrea constand at his home back in 2004. last week a judge decided one other cosby accuser could testify at his trial. >> pennsylvania businessman, and philanthropist, al boscov, being remembered at memorial service today. the service being held this afternoon in reading. boscov is credited with building one of the biggest family-owned department stores in the us, boscov's. boscov died at 87 years old back on february 10th. he had revealed that he had pancreatic cancer and there was just no cure, just days before his death. the memorial service is at 3:00 at santander performing art center in reading. >> well, this morning, hundreds every young gymnasts are taking part in a big competition. but, they're not doing it just to show off their skills. they will also be fighting

breast cancer. cherri gregg from sister station "kyw news radio" is at the pennsylvania convention center this morning, and that's where the pink invitational begins very soon. good morning, cherri gregg. >> reporter: good morning, jan. it is pretty quai net here now but pretty soon there will be a sea of pink leotards and it is all a part of the ninth annual pink invitational. i'm here with founder of the pink invitational and also the founder and president, the women behind it all, miss sue wheldon. good morning. >> good morning. >> quiet now but it won't be pretty job no, it will not. we have 3300 athlete all weekends, all uniting for our women of philadelphia to help them, you know, get through their side effect and symptoms affected by breast cancer. so we are thrilled to be here again, yes, it will be great event. i'm glad you came back, thank you. >> yes, weaver some video of what has been going on, because this is three day event. i want people to take a look at what's goes on here.

you guys, there are girls from all over the region, all over the country come here? >> yes. so we have 11 state that came out this year, 83 gyms, most from pennsylvania, new jersey, maryland, you know, right on the northeastern corridor. but they come every year. you know shall we give them a platform where they can raise funds, and they can unite for the women, everybody has somebody in their life that's affected by breast cancer. so, you know, the coaches, the staff, you know, just so amazing to support us, and my gosh, just rock stars, they run this whole event. and steven louise, just do incredible job year after year. >> and this for people who don't understand what unite for her does, you guys provide funding, you fill the gaps in areas where the insurance doesn't cover? >> we do. so, you know, the medical community, we actually fill that gap between the wellness and the medical community. so where our surgeons and doctors are so concentrated on fighting and beat that cancer, we work hand-in-hand to actually restore the woman. and we give them access to

acupuncture, yoga, massage therapy, counselling, sexual health, nutrition, so many things that really are a big factor when you're healing. and we don't want our women to have additional side effect with additional prescriptions. so we teach them, yes, we teach them how to incorporate that eastern type of philosophy, but these complimentary therapies that can really heal, like oncology massage. >> yoga, all of those things. so today they'll be all of the young women get the opportunity to be philanthropists, because they worked hard to raise money, and i understand this event raises pretty good amount to help you guys? >> yes. so we should hit another 500,000, our largest fundraising event t funds ten of our hospitals, partners here in the philadelphia area. so it is crucial. but our girls from all over, they do their cart wheels, bake sales, and so sweet, and at the come in, weaver this above and beyond club team challenge. really great. we had our number one

days, tomorrow back to the 50's, above average, by wednesday, approaching that 70 . and then by the end of the week, back down possibly even below average by friday into the upcoming weekend. so typical for march. temperatures will be up and down. that's probably going to be the pattern for at least the first half of march. i think we will start to see some colder days from time to time. look at the winds flow, ushering in colder air, mid upper three's for temperatures right now, cold air, up into southern canada, great lakes region, in the 20's at this hour, buffalo and state college. not supporting snow showers, haven't seen that for awhile, with all of the recent warm temperatures, so lake effect snow western pennsylvania, ohio, new york, maybe stray flurries in the poconos into the afternoon. everybody else mixture every sunday shine and clouds. here is the set up. high pressure pretty much dominating our region for the rest every today into monday. so dry. going to see more sunshine for the start every monday, then clouds start to move in for monday afternoon actually warmer air returning, maybe couple every rain showers on

but before the start of the season, the search is onto select the newest members of the phillies ball girls. >> we are down the line. we are catching all of the foul balls. we are running jacket from the bullpen to the dugouts. and then when we're not on the feel helping out with the 50-50 raffles, and our awesome red goes green team. so we're doing a lot of stuff. >> it is very time consuming. when we get these home stands, we're here, every day, for every single game, and we do so much more than just sit on the side lines. >> what they do on the field is only about 10% of the job, that's everybody recognizes them for. we at the phillies try to incorporate them more in the community and they're community ambassadors, so we have them involved in sponsor events to, you know, some of our phillies events we have here and then also outside community appearances like school visits, hospital visits, doing clinics, things like that. >> about 50 to 60 young women try out each year to make a team of an around 20. so what does it take to secure a spot? >> softball obviously is a muscles. we want to make sure not only
