>> well, shocking vandalism in a jewish cemetery in wissanoming more tombstones in our community push from their pace bases some destroyed. >> i'm natasha brown. the vandalism at the cemetery is shocking and not the first time our area has seen a crime like this. two weeks ago a britdz burg cemetery was defaced. as old as the seam tire itself snaebd 1887. >> and today toppled grave stones were found in a cemetery in philadelphia wissanoming section. joe holden is "live" in wissanoming he has the latest on this vandalism.

joe. >> natasha, good evening, there's wide ranging calls from local and politicians condemn what did happen here. now, just within the last 0 minutes a small group prayed and sang in response to what they are calling just sheer hate athe grave stones around them remain toppled tonight. >> in a race against daylight a small army of people showed up at mt. carmel cemetery in the wissanoming section of the city. two up right head stones. philadelphia police say sometime overnight more than 1 100 were knocked down and estimate placed number of toppled grave stones higher. jewish families have buried their dead here for more than a century. >> these are head stones that weigh some of them sons and

this is something cleared from perspective the that and this is done deliberately. >> some heard about the extensive vandalism over social media and wanted to see it for themselves. >> i don't know why this happened. i tonight know why anything like this would happen. somebody did something and maybe they were not thinking or maybe they were thinking too much. >> philadelphia detectives are not speculating on a motive at this point. and those out here are troubled by what they see and find resolve in compassion of others to help pick up the pieces. >> we're finding comfort in all of the support that we're seeing now. >> and we have a statement from mayor jim kenney tonight and reads in part "we're doing all we can to find the perpetrators who des crated this final resting place and today willing prosecuted to the fullest except of the law. hate is not permissible in philadelphia. now looking back here live

again people out here praying and singing and of course, condemning hatred. anti-defamation league at this point put up a 10,000 reward. there's now philadelphia police officer posted at the entrance of the cemetery and they're lead on this investigation. those cbs3 has made inquires with the federal government and u.s. attorneys office to determine if they too will be joining this ongoing investigation. of course, all the latest on this developing story on eyewitness news at 11. reporting live in the wissanoming section of philadelphia, i'm joe holden. cbs eyewitness news. >> thank you so much we appreciate that. vandalism is not just happening our area. last week head stones were toppled at a jewish cemetery in st. louis, missouri. more than 100 head stones were vandalized at the historic place of rest and officials would not say if they're investigating that crime as a hate crime at this point. >> and family and friends are trying to make sense of an overnight tragedy. two young members of the dover police department killed in a

single vehicle crash. and as eyewitness news reporter anita oh found out today one of the men was not wearing a seatbelt. >> we woke up to a tragedy this morning. >> near nawlt road a small bouquet of red roses marks the accident scene where two members of the dover police department died in a single vehicle car crash 4:00 sunday morning the impact killed the driver 23-year-old robert defant and passenger 2 22-year-old james watts off duty at the time. >> it's a huge hole, huge hole for us. >> the aunt and cousin say the patrolman with the department two years always wanted to be a police officer. >> we'll all miss his smile. he was a beautiful person. the world feels like emptier place now that he's not with u us. >> de fawnt lost control of 2 2016 scream rangler that hit a utility pole and overturned and eject the watts not wearing a seatbelt. watts was with special enforcement cadet unit 6 months

and meantime neighbors tell eyewitness news this is not the first fatal accident on this road. >> before we lived here everybody told us that you live on death corner. they're ski around the corner. you can hear them they're going way too fast. >> family, friend and checks of the two young men are grieving their loss while celebrating their lives. >> fun and full of life. he was always a bright spirit and always willing to help out. and probably one of the best of us. so it's really sad to see him two. >> out of respect for the families the dover police department declined interviews and said both young men were outstanding employees committed to serving the community and cause of this crash is under investigation. reporting in dover, i'm anita oh, contribution 3 eyewitness news. >> after phil patchton died at the age of 61 following complications with surge yes, i patchton was starring as a road cop in the cbs steeryes training day. his son james patchton was guest star newspaper coming

episode. patchton credits include titanic, alienator and cbs and warper brothers say in part we're shocked and deeply sadde saddened by the news of bill patchton's passing. he he was gifted and popular with so many memorable roles on film and television. all of us here offer our dee deepest sympathy to his wife luiz and his two children. >> and a car ran into a crowd in new orleans. authorities say 25-year-old nealson rosetto is in custody in connection with the crash on saturday night. witnesses say the the suspect was driving a pickup truck that hit two cars before screening into the crowd. police say it appears risetto was extremely intoxicated. mayor of new orleans says this was the second incident along the parade route. >> some of the police officers out here working this scene were working the uptown scene as well. and we've had individuals who

made really bad decisions today that really caused serious damage and consequences to a lot of citizens which is a shame. there's hundreds of thousands of people enjoying themselves. for the rest of the season we will have people, again, you know, be respectful and thoughtful to the citizens if you see something, say something. >> and at least 21 people were treated for non life-threatening injuries. >> and also tonight, part of lancaster county are in shambles following a night of storms. the national weather service says the damage here was done by straight line winds between 75 and 95 miles an hour yesterday. and heavy rain also ripped through farmland off routes 897 yesterday uprooting veez and tearing roofs off silos and homes and 7 buildings were destroyed in west cocalico township. >> what a difference a day makes while it may not be the 70 degrees we started with on saturday we're grateful it's a dry day at least. no trauma today lauren keeping things bundled up and dry out. there just a light jacket

that's going to be nice. having the extra time at end of workday to enjoy sunshine. we spring forward sunday march 12, two weeks from today our sunset time today is 5:50 forget that let's have sunset time after the 7:00 hour and we have something to look forward to the next couple weeks. temperatures today, they were all right. right around average. 45 in philadelphia, we topped at 40 allentown and 32 degrees your high temperature today in mount pocono and a big difference from high temperature of 61 yesterday and getting a live look at center city philadelphia, all is quie quiet, 4. still a breeze out of the west up around 15 miles an hour and adding to that wind chill impact feeling more like 5 degrees and temperatures changes over the last 2 4 hours you know it's been dramatic. double digits at reporting sites and today will be coolest day of the next several days as warm-up is in store as we push towards the first day of march on wednesday. and starting with blustery

conditions today and still wind speeds elevated they'll wane gradually into the next couple hours and as i mentioned as we head to the next couple days our temperatures will be rising on the order of 15 to 0 degrees above average as we head into wednesday with jet stream returning keeping cold canadian air locked up to the north. nice way to kickoff the month of marx. overnight, chilly, 34 as we head into the day tomorrow. sunshine starts and then clouds increasing as we head to the afternoon hours. and 56 degrees and big jump by order of 10 degrees and temperature department by tomorrow afternoon. well, adding rain chances. you need to break autumn brel amidweek. mainly dry tomorrow. good chance of scattered showers tuesday. showers and a few thunderstorms likely as we head into wednesday and particularly wednesday night, few lingering showers in the thursday morning before we clear things out once again but you're going to need

that for a couple days and future weather shows us kicking off the workweek on dry note. increasing cloud deck and staying dry and as we head to tuesday morning this particular model already brings skaerted shower activities early tuesday morning commute and we have dry periods thought the day tuesday. it won't be a complete washout but we'll see rounds of showers passing through as a warm front lifts through the area ands with 'head to wednesday already seeing increase in the coverage ever the precipitation and in the intensity as we deal with the system's cold front on wednesday. before tomorrow, don't need that umbrella. just a mix of sun and i clouds down the shore. milder, 54 in the poconos and milder day and forecasted high across the area, i-95 corridor middle 50s and at shore points we'll have high temperatures low to mid 50s and we're in the 60s tuesday. scattered showers wednesday and we're up to 7. that would be 3 degrees shy of the record-high temperature as we head into thursday, backside of the system, temperatures dropping off pretty significan
