end of the week. i'm cleve bryan the atlantic city international boat show. coming up i'll show you interesting, impressive products on display and show you how boating is making a rebound in new jersey. it is 6:00 o'clock. here's is what happening. pepsi cutting jobs and pointing fingers. soft drink giant is blaming cities drink tax, and the marries firing back. the company announce today they will be forced to layoff workers due to the tax. good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live at city hall with the response from both sides, david? >> reporter: hi jessica and ukee. tensions have been rising for months, it seems today they came to a full boil when it was announced people would be losing their jobs but mayor's office and city hall fired back and said people will be actually going back to work.

eighty to 100 jobs gone from the local pepsi payroll, officials insist philadelphia 's sugary drink tax, it is to blame n a statement to "eyewitness news" teamsters local 830, union representing the soda industry workers, wrote quote our worst fears have been realized. pepsi is reporting a 40 percent drop in philadelphia business since january 1st. the day that the tax went into effect. pepsi employers 423 people in philadelphia. and we spoke to soda union treasurer danny grace by phone >> eventually this will catch up with us that the loss in sales, you know, dictates loss in jobs. the company evidently feels that you no longer sustain the losses that they are getting. >> reporter: numbers out just last week show that the tax raised 5.7 million-dollar in jana loan, and that is more than twice the original projection. mayor jim kenney was not available for on camera interview but spokeswoman said

in a statement that the soda industry sunk to a new low, they are literally holding hostage the jobs of hard working people in their battle to overturn the tax. kenney's team points to 250 new jobs, created as a result of the tax, a spokeswoman says that the tax funding prek which in turn opens up new teaching jobs for the program. pepsi is holding firm and said in a statement quote this isn't something we take lightly or want to do and we are committed to working with our employees and union to treat impacted individuals with the care, and dignity that they deserve. tomorrow morning mayor kenney will present his budge tote city council, and i'm told by city hall source he will mention drink tax in that address. it is is 11:00 o'clock tomorrow morning at city hall. reporting live, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". pennsylvania based check late company hershey also announced layoffs. candy maker is expect to layoff 20 percent of the workers but most of the cuts

will impact employees outside of the united states. the company says that the cuts are part of a plan to boost its international business. hershey operates eight factories outside of the u.s., and employs more than 16,000 employees, worldwide. we're hearing tonight from two alleged victims of an accused serial child rapist. two young woman appeared today identifying themselves as jm and js. both say that they were sexual ly abused as children by a bucks county handy man william charles thomas of falls township. he is facing charges. >> this is not my fault, because i was than the even old enough to understand, i was being taken advantage of by a grown adult child molester. no one should be ashamed, embarrassed or difficulties couraged. i have been there. i have for the depression and anxiety, and you can too. >> thomas accused of abusing a

total of six women including his own daughter. police in upper darby arrested two teens for beating , robbing a six three-year old man. we first told you about the crime last week. authorities say that the teens were involved in a week long crime spree, authorities have arrested a 60 year-old from upper darby and 17 year-old from west philadelphia one woman, too scared to show her face, told "eyewitness news" she was hit from behind and her purse was almost $1,100 inside was snatched. >> that was my last money because my husband, he didn't work last four months. >> the teens have been charged as juveniles but upper darby police say they hepp to charge them as adults. they say twoo women along 52nd street in west philadelphia on february the 19th. surveillance video shows a heavy set man grabbing a women 's purse and knocking her down around 8:00 o'clock in the morning. police say four hours earlier this same man pushed his way into an apartment, and attacked a 67 year-old woman.

they say he stole a cell phone and nine dollars. call police if you recognize the suspect. police are investigating another hateful act of vaned list many in a northeast philadelphia community. resident told police she found a swastika spray painted on her front step this morning. this happened on the 10,000 block of park place in the bustleton section. that hateful symbol has been since washed off the property. police continue to search for clues, as to who is responsible. reward has grown to $69,000, for information, leading to the vandals who toppled grave stones at mount carmel jewish cemetery in wissonoming. we told you over the weekend a person visiting the cemetery reported the damage. volunteers returned to the site today for a second day of clean up. they took care of landscaping, and to help restore the grounds. safety first, today the bicycle coalition of the greater philadelphia hosted a daze long conference, it focused on ways to make streets safe for cyclist, pedestrians and motorist. >> when pedestrians are hit by

sport fishing boats to luxury yachts, the atlantic city boat show has more to see then ever and reason is simple, people are willing to spend. >> boating tracks closely with consumer confidence. as we see that rise boating sales go up. >> reporter: size of the boat show fluctuated closely with the economy n2010 there were 150 boats here at leisure industry plumeted. this year there are more than 500 boats on display. >> that is just more product flooding the marketplace. is there more demand. >> reporter: experts say boat manufacturers have adjusted their products to attract people looking for value. center console boats deemed for hard core fisherman are outfitted with extensive cushioning for cruising. pontoon boats have become bread and butter for wildwood which has seen better sales. >> it least bounded, it started last year. we have seen a huge up tic in the past two months, and not only with boat sales but with the marina in general. >> reporter: example people

einstein health care science report. it is a gymnasium full of brain power. pint sized vehicles taking off , powered by electricity. and not so fast vehicles propelled by a falling wait. the trick to design each one to just go a certain distance, and then stop. hundreds of inventors were intent on their badges, a big think tank of young scientist from his more than 50 middle schools and high schools in bucks, chester, delaware, montgomery and philadelphia counties. the students have been preparing for this challenge, all school year, putting their stem knowledge, science, technology, engineering, and math, into practice. one of the coolest competition s, bottle rockets. they were temporarily grounded >> my heart breaks for them because weather is cooling them off right now.

georgia, this evening. we're missing out on the worst of it and it is still warm. not a lot of sun today. we are at 66 degrees here in philadelphia dew .51. dew points are dropping as dryer air works n down the shore 64 degrees. in the poconos 55, winds west south west picking up, right now at 15 miles an hour and those winds will continue to pick up. yesterday marked end of the meteorological winter, december, january, february. it is technically meteorological spring. we have to wait for 20th for spring to begin but meteorological winter very warm. sixth warmest on record in philadelphia, 5.9 degrees above average. 10.3 inches below average on the snowfall totals. only six days that really qualified as full sunshine. we have had a lot of cloud issues but a lot of warmth this past winter. future weather shows colder air moving in, and we could possibly, have another taste of winter even to start meet logical spring. split is scattered showers and storms around 10, they will move on out, tomorrow we will
