>> good morning, happy wednesday, you guys, yesterday was busy right away in the 4:00 o'clock hour. seeing same thing today. very busy. we will have updates coming up >> we are dealing with a couple rain drops in the area and seeing a couple drops moving through center city philadelphia right now. leaving the house, i think you'll be all right. pass along a jacket because temperatures will be cooling as we head into the second half of the day and you do notice that temperature gradient across the delaware valley as cold front is dropping through the area, 46 degrees right now in reading, we are at 49 in allentown where that cooler air is just starting to settle in, 37 mount pocono but ahead of that boundary temperatures extremely mild at this early hour we are at 60 degrees in philadelphia, 61 in dover. we have shower activity making its way through the area extremely light in intensity but seeing this band of sprinkles and light showers working through i-95 corridor rain drops coming down center city philadelphia, germantown, west deptford, haddon and

haddonfield as well we are seeing sprinkle activity. for our day we will see sprinkles over next several hours, by 9:00 lingering cloud but clearing out as we head into lunchtime. sunshine, windy conditions, temperature of 60. we will cool back down in the 50's as we head in the second half of the day, meisha and chillier tonight. >> loving that 60 around noon, i may eat outside for lunch. good morning, everybody. looking outside we are talking about busy world of travel. accident i-95 north off ramp to walt whitman bridge, it is closed. i'll let you know when that lifts. heading out there right now it is starting to heat up ever so slightly. plus, jim mentioned this at the opening fox street is closed. we have that fire. peco substation yesterday. fox street is closed, it has been closed since then between roberts avenue and allegheny avenue. alternates around this will be henry or wissohickon avenue, head up on this we will update you all morning long but that is something you want to navigate around. we have an accident in swede bureau, new jersey with a down

pole, 322 eastbound is closed at route 551 or king's highway another alternate tomlin station road is your best bet there. again, we have a down pole there as well. we have got this accident investigation, accident actually happened at 2:00 a.m. this is investigation new jersey turnpike north bound at 1951 left lane opened, outer drive, if you do not want to deal with that use these alternates, 130, 295 or 206, that might help you out, a little bit, jim, over to you. thanks, meisha. peco has been working overnight to restore power to thousands still in the dark following yesterday's substation fire. >> "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao is live in north philadelphia where outages are affecting some schools this morning, good morning, jan. >> reporter: good morning. peco is making some progress, especially when you consider that at the height of the outages some 36,000 customers were left in the dark. as i mentioned more people getting back on line, that number is closer to 6,000

customers this morning but some local schools will be affected to day. peco substation on the 2600 block of west westmoreland street in west philadelphia is now a melted pile of metal as crews worked to get the system back on line philadelphia high school for girls and ew middle school is closed. the fire easily devoured the equipment, fire fighters were forced to wait three hours before all of the power was shut off before they could douse the flames. >> because wires was still energized the fire continued to flash. we will end up putting out fire old fashion way was water but we have to make sure that the power is shut down first. >> reporter: thick, black smoke caught evacuation of the nearby apartment complex. others were told to shelter in place. thousands, who power, including portions of temple university and its hospital. businesses were also left in the dark, as streetlights,

went out creating rush hour grid lock. nearby homes were damaged, fortunately, in one was hurt. >> peco crews are working around the clock and none in stop to get customers restored >> reporter: peco goes on to say they hope to have everyone 's power restored by noon. afternoon activities, will also be cancelled at girls high as well as that middle school. we're reporting live from north philadelphia, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks for that update. new this morning an eight day old baby is in the hospital after a violent home invasion in philadelphia's logan section. police say three masked men forced their way in the home in the 4500 block of north 18th street. this happened around 12:30. mother says she was sleeping when intruders point aid gun at her and threw her baby to the ground. robbers did getaway with $3,500 in cash, infant should be okay but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. serial child rapist is sentenced and put behind bars but authorities in delaware

welcome back. mystery solved, officials believe that an unexplained blackout at statue of liberty last night was connected to work being done on a new emergency backup generator as part of the hurricane sandy recovery project. two hour blackout sparked conspiracy theories. it is recognized as a symbolic welcome of immigrants entering u.s. investigators will be in biloxi miss sip toy figure out what caused a freight train to collide with the charter bus killing four people. eyewitnesses say bus got stuck on the railroad tracks and passengers were in the process of getting off bus when the train slammed into it. thirty-five other people mostly senior citizens were injured, and the texas based charter bus was on its way to casino at the time of the crash. well, take a look at these flames, a huge wild fire is burning out of control in south florida. >> this is just one of the fires burning in at lee five states, correspondent kim hutchinson says some fires are so big they can be seen from

space. >> reporter: deadly wild fires burning in the midwest have consumed more than 1 million acres in colorado, oklahoma, kansas, and texas. there is so many fires, both out of control and prescribed burns, that they can be seen from space, in texas, some 325,000 acres have been consumed in the panhandle, in oklahoma, more than 400,000 acres burned. in eastern colorado, some 30,000 acres have gone up in smoke, and in kansas, 400,000, the wild fires have taken several lives and forced evacuations in the midwest. >> my family and i wanted to make sure we get out of the house. when we saw how big and fast it was coming at us. >> reporter: more evacuationness florida where fire fighters are battling a blaze that consumed 6,000 acres. parts of the i75 in collier county called alligator alley were closed down on tuesday. >> it is like something out of the science fiction on movie like everybody disappeared in the time warp. >> reporter: in many areas

neighbors are stepping up to help those who who everything. >> it breaks my heart for everybody involved and you know, like i said, someone hurt nothing this community we all hurt. >> reporter: fire conditions at lee in the midwest are suspected to endure for several more days. kim hutchinson, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". i'm not going to complain about the weather we're having you have to deal with fires, tornadoes, a little up and downey can manage. >> we are very mild. >> we can handle a couple rain drops and sprinkles moving across the area and temperatures are extremely mild to wake up to. don't need that winter coat just in philadelphia and pointseward but temperatures are dropping off to the north and west on the back side of the cold front making its way through. we are at 46 in reading, 49 in allentown, we have dropped off significantly, as some of that cooler air just over the last hour in philadelphia, we were up at 60 degrees now back at 55 degrees in fill because still hanging at 61 in dover.

storm scan three shows a line of showers, sprinkles, light showers making its way across i-95 corridor. we have a couple of flakes trying to mix in the poconos. we will see some returns of white briefly there sprinkle activity flakes mixed in the higher elevations but dealing with all rainfall across south jersey right now. shower worked through center city philadelphia rainfall starting to pick up a bit as well where we are seeing yellow returns from deptford, and mullica. break out that umbrella briefly but as we head in the second half of the morning that shower activity will taper off for most. we could see lingering showers ahead of the boundary at our shore points and mid-morning but then by midday sunshine overtaking delaware valley and we have a mostly sunny afternoon in store. temperatures will be slowly cooling as we head in the second half of the day so our high temperature is 63 degrees we were already near that. shower earlier and then sunshine and windy conditions with the westerly wind at 15 to 20 miles an hour. for tonight colder on the back side of the cold front but not
