live in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news." now at noon, most of our region is still in the grips of major winter storm nearly white-out conditions in allentown, lehigh county where even a suv needed help on the snow covered roads. >> also, take a look at the brand new drone watch three. over spring guards never philadelphia, crews working hard to get these roads cleared. but they're not clear yet. it could be a while. >> and from the city to the jersey shore, the storm is impacting that area, and very much different way with flooding. this is video from zeik from stone harbor, see some of the streets completely under watt their. >> storm scan3 busy tracking the storm, as you can see, it is finally slowly beginning to

mover away from the region. good afternoon, i'm rahel solomon. >> i'm jim donovan, we've been going strong since 4:00 a.m. we have a team of reporters spanning out across the region. >> first the very latest on the storm, with meteorologist, katie fehlinger and kate bio both here to track this very serious weather event. good morning to you both or good afternoon. >> yep, in the afternoon now, rahel. >> we made it. exactly. kate, you know, do technically have blizzard warnings, winter weather warnings, but it is starting to pull away thank goodness, starting to wipe the slate clean here. >> starting to move out. hopefully we can get the roads clear out solve many this before the roads take the hit tonight. i do think we will have somewhat of a window, still likely some residual snow showers, even squawls that pick up here, because the winds continues across the region, but the bulk of the precipitation is pretty much winding down at this point. that's helpful. >> moving outment seeing some sun peaking out, strong march

sun, even if the temperatures are sub freezing will start the melt down, hopefully clear things up, because tonight could be a big problem out there. >> definitely. now that we are starting to seat worse of the storm pull away, we can turn to the aftermath at this point. but you know we still do have storm to track here, i go ahead, get you on out there, take a look, so again blizzard warnings, technically still in effect although again we are past the peak of this storm system. as far as the delaware valley is concerned. although technically again those warnings remain in effect until 6:00. won't be shock to see them expire little soonerment take a look, storm system starting to pulling away. very intense with the heaviest bands of snow and sleet, and even rain, coming in over the last couple of hours, now the majority of the delmarva peninsula is actually dry. and i will tell you this much, we are thrilled to see the continuous reports coming in from so many of you on twitter around the region as a whole, because we know it has been such an ever changing morning, now afternoon for us. so, keep them coming.

really are interested, because it does actually help us when it comes to the forecasting. i have to tell you at this snapshot view of storm scan, this is kind of deceptive. what you see is not necessarily what you get on storm scan today, because we have seen what looks like snow, actually, as sleet. or it is not doing anything at all. so again, those report really are very valuable to us, as forecasters, but regardless in terms of the radar, where the back edge of this is, you're finds that back edge beginning to pull right now north of philadelphia county, and even in burlington county. so again the end is essentially site with the main thrust of the storm system. but we are at this point still going to have to deal with aftermath issues in the way of very, very frigid windchill values. moving forward, i can't say i'm crazy how this initialize dollars or model initialize dollars but it continues to bring the storm system out of here, left over snow showers certainly in the next couple of hours as a concern, and like we mention, there will still be blowing and drifting courtesy of the winds that

continues to crank across our area, but otherwise, again just seeing the worse of the storm system. guys, back to you. >> all morning long we're seen conditions starting to get worse throughout the region, as the hours went by, one of the areas hardest hit was allentown. >> our trang do has been there all morning long, and in the thick of the storm, trang, what are things looking like now? >> reporter: rahel, jim, you guys know this area got pretty much wallopped by the storm. as you can see, it is still smoke here. team of crews out here all night. and they've quite the job ahead of them. >> the first flakes began falling in allentown around 9:00 monday night. the storm picked up around 2:00 a.m. to a steady light accumulating snowfall. by the typical morning rush, snow was falling at a rate of two-4 inches per hour, blizzard conditions, making travel extremely difficult. that was followed by a period of sleet and eventually back to snow. allentown mayor, ed, says his

crew of 50 trucks have been working ought night, still have quite the job ahead of them. >> secondary streets -- streets, the alice, it will take some time to get to them probably until later this afternoon. just be patient. again, there is really nothing we can do. it is real a blizzard condition. nothing to go out tonight so i would just warn people to use caution, stay at home, and, you know, don't go out on the street if you don't have to. >> and the snow here in the lehigh valley is expected to taper off within the hour. but people here could definitely see some snowflakes up into the early evening. for now live in allentown, trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news," jim, rahel, back to you. >> trang, thank you. hopefullhopefully your last shof the day. >> the storm hit very hard, take a look at this viewer video tweeted to us from there. eye took down branches in this viewer's yard, lot of power outages in delaware, storm delmarva power tells cbs-3 more than 30,000 customers have lost power, and may be

more power outages to come. storm caused scary moment in south fill when few trees came down on parked cars. >> "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos joins us now, been in the neighborhood all morning long, and greg, what are things looking like right now. >> basically, stopped, though the winds is was the concern right now, coupled with basically the thick sheeting of ice you can see, on everything here in south philly, and you have issues like this, walk with me real quickly. you can see peco down in the distance there. that's six street and carpenter, the power lines taken down when a tree collapsed around two hours ago. we want it show you some. video of the damage it left behind. basically crushing an entire car. fortunately, no one was in that car. no one was injured. but it caused scary moment for some. take a listen. >> a lot of crushing, pounding, and then smashed up car and broken windows, and fire, like sparks came out of the house.

meantime, i will send it back to you, everyone stay safe. we have that board ready? >> tori just just lost it back here. >> we needed that, that was perfect ending every our morning. >> oh, here she goes, please, don't get hurt. >> she really knows how to make lemonade out of lemons. >> that was one heck of a fashion show. thanks, tori. >> and the tour might not be getting hit with he? but the storm is causing flooding. from stone harbor, back bay flooding, you can see water flowing down the street there. >> and governor christie called in to "eyewitness news" this morning, not necessarily concerned about property damage. >> the problem he believes will be the beaches. >> what we're trying to do now, just keep eye on the jersey shore to make sure that we deal with whatever issues we have from the moderate flooding, most of those issues will not be significant property damage. at least as far as we can tell. and it will be more beach errosion that we have to be dealing with after the storm is over. >> governor christie says people are abiding the state of emergency, that's good news, allowing crews to clear the snow and ice covered

streets and highways. >> then speaking of the shore, we go back down to the shore as live coverage continues this noon. >> cleve bryan live in atlantic city where a pain of rain boots mate be better option than snow boots. cleve? >> reporter: i wish i had some better boots. i had my boots tested this morning when i stepped in the puddle and water went right in. so that's fine. but things are looking up here, the rain has stopped, switching the ball caps to ski hats, because it is very cold. we're here at fairmount avenue and florida avenue. >> this was all underwater about an hour ago. but the high tide is passed. the water is starting to slowly recede. still the road shutdown, in the middle of the roadway, fairmount avenue closed down. you can see for blocks and blocks walter still over the roadways, this was impassable, all morning, we spoke to manager, gave us picture from water rescue that they did earlier in a different low-lying part every town called bungalow park. the problem is when you drive into the water your car does not do so well, especially

when you get into the deeper water you didn't anticipate. so we spoke with angelo de may, the emergency manager for atlantic city kind of describes why we see so much flooding in part of atlantic city. >> the way the elevation and pitch of the drainage just not going out into the base. like you said when you got tidal surge coming at the ocean front, water really has no where to go, just comes up through the drainage system. >> and the worse thing is the drive? >> worse thing definitely drive. easier to stay home, hunker down, let the emergency crews do what they need to do. >> so many roadways still at the jersey shore shutdown because of the flooding, so do not drove on them right now, but things are looking up for this afternoon. live in atlantic city, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news." >> now keeping an eye on the roads all morning long, rough out there. >> live in the traffic center with a check on road conditions right now, meisha? >> yes, good moral, guys, basically everything we've been seeing right now is the first time we've seen it just slowly starting to change.

starting to look a little bit better, i say it with such caution, i still want you to stay at home. sit right on the couch with your coffee, but i will say a lot whatever we're seeing now is some water a lot of areas, more movement, also not as many accident, the accidents we've been seeing getting cleared out of the way. so things are slowly in a lot of areas starting to look a little bit better. >> one of the areas overturned vehicle probably right side up. still one of the areas where visibility will still play little factor, heads up on. that will now a lot of this from the new jersey turnpike, what i am talking about, a lot of that starting clear now. this is one where we have a jackknife tractor-trailer, new jersey turnpike, that right lane is still blocked in that area. soap, just heads up. going to be slick, if you have

>> makes his way in front of the art museum earlier, also near the art new see thumb morning, these dogs are enjoying their romp in the white stuff. they seem to be happy. >> cute. let's head south, the baltimore area also slammed by this winter storm. there are about 30,000 pour outages report in the maryland, at least 100,000 customers without power, mid-atlantic and northeast region, so conditions in baltimore like kind of sim their what we're dealing with here, some areas in maryland reporting 5 inches of accumulated snow. >> and back up north, new york, snow has blanketed the region. these are pictures of binghampton, forecasts calling up to 30 inches along the new york pennsylvania border.

new york city forecast was downgraded four to 8 inches, but also very dangerous conditions due to icy roads, so not a walk in the park. >> back in time to the storm of the century hammered the united states in march of 1993, that famous blizzard of 93 dumped a foot of snow on philadelphia on march 12, thunder snow, from georgia to pennsylvania, and more than 40 e areas of the poconos. not looking at those snow totals. >> the roads remain slick in many areas, live view, of route 30 near villanova and delaware county, our advice for today, stay home, if you can. katie? >> where it is cozy, warm and dry, right? but you know what, guys flirting in a couple of spots with the 30-inch totals of 1993. i'll let you know where we've seen well over 20 inches, but also whether does the storm actually get out of here? the answer, coming up.

>> welcome back, another area seeing plenty of snow today, even sleet in the reading our. >> our natasha brown check to go see if people are able to get out and about. that the tasha, good afternoon. >> well good afternoon to you both. actually taking over for our colleagues, alicia, and tommy guard nerve, our photographer who actually is still doing my shot. here at fourth and pennsylvania avenue in west reading. we've been able to bop around a bit if you will, just to kind of get some kind of a idea as to what the roads are like. some difficult conditions out here, no doubt about that. we haven't seen a lot of folks out and about today, and the ones we've seen are shoveling, using their snow blowers, some of them had their four wheelers trying to get around in. so one way or another doing the best they can to get around. we believe folks are heeding

the warning and staying inside in this area as the snow continues to accumulate. back to you guys. >> no thank you, so much, natasha. both katie and kate have been here all morning long, tracking the serious weather. so let's get updated on the forecast now, katie? >> jim, you know, we've definately been accumulating pretty impressive totals. if it wasn't necessarily in philadelphia, we did ends up with several inches here, too, we real did i well, jackpot just north of the city, especially up toward the mountains. out to the graphic, hey, mount pocono, hello, almost 2 feet have already fallen, 23 inches, just shy of 11 in jim thorpe, allentown has pick up 7.2 inches so far. and in chaddsford shy of half food there, obviously short list. gives you idea what the northern counties have seen. meantime take a look, storm system itself beginning to pull away. what you will notice over the course of the three hour loop how it looks like it actually is starting to not fizzle necessarily but certainly weaken. you don't have as much

moisture over here, over our area, and we're starting to see a lot of reports from folks on twitter. keep them coming folks. really like. that will because it has been very, varied forecast all morning long, of sunshine, breaking through, in cumberland county down in most every delaware, delmarva starting to brighten up nicely. so it is with time that things will start to ease up here. the wind, not so much. that's going to hang on for awhile. what you will see happen pressure gradient set up as the main area of low pressure pulls away, so we could still see 50-mile per hour gust here and there. the worse of the winds does get pulled away into northern new england, with time here, but still going to have to contend with the very vicious wind gusts even into tomorrow. meantime we at least in some places have quite a bit of shoveling to do. important continues, very last one from the very own doctor rob danoff, comes on the morning show all the time, puts some pam or cooking spray on the shovel. will help that to just slide right off. not hurt, quite as much, kate,

over to you. >> thank you so much. katie. and yes, that's great thing to mention, because if you don't get out there and shovel this now, it is all going to freeze up tonight. and i know nothing sounds less appealing than going out and shoveling 3 inches of sleet and slush. anything slushy, is going to refreeze tonight. now temperatures drop to the teens and 20's, overnight. that means any untreated roads will get icy very quickly, use extra cautious on the roads, even tomorrow morning, temperatures when you wake up in the 20's, and teens, you can take a look at the future temperatures by 5:00 tomorrow morning, 21 in philadelphia, 18 in allentown, 19 degrees in reading, so again anything that looks wet will be ice tomorrow morning. could be very slow commute. i would recommend leaving a little earlier than you think you night to get out on the roads and assess the situation, temperatures stay in the 20's all day tomorrow, even into thursday afternoon. we're still only in the 20's. one group of folks loving this storm, take a look up here we head into the did i resorts, of the poconos, and people out
