still covered in snow and ice. embrace yourself for another cold, blustery day, winter as not loosening its grip on our area anytime soon, today is wednesday, march 15th , good morning i'm jim donovan. i'm rahel solomon. katie and meisha keeping an eye on things. are you okay, meisha. >> yes, i'm okay. >> well, it might be costume jewelry. well, looking outside, lots of ice we would love to give you green light and say hey, have at it but we can't because the isis a big deal. onish eye after the other. >> that is immediate concern and then later today and as early as this morning a couple snow showers work they are way in and that will reduce your visibility. you will see everything out there is very, very scattered. that is an under statement actually. you may see snowflakes flying at at this hour in northern, burlington county, lower bucks but it is mainly earlier today that the wrap around moisture will pick up for us. in other word bring in

scattered snow showers or squals. we have a winter weather advisory that is extended until 8:00. only reason rest have the region won't see that is because you probably don't see any accumulation but in the purple shaded counties you might see two additional inches out of heavier snow squals that pick up, on top of what you have seen already. do keep that in mind reducing your visibility, immediate concern is icing, take a look at your feels like, not your actual air temperatures but feels like values. these are temperatures you want to be dressing for walking out the door, it is freezing, guys, bundle up adequately. actual air temperatures are more like in the 20's, low to mid 20's at best. that includes, anybody that even saw primarily rain out of the nor'easter yesterday. down the shore you are also below freezing. frozen slush, snow, ice, untreated low roadways, you have bottom line, use extreme caution. >> because of what you just

mentioned, katie this is what we are seeing. some have cleared out of our way but it seems like one thing after the next. we are looking at this accident in chad ford delaware county baltimore pike closed between fair view and webb road. your alternate 926 or street road is your best bet. take a look, crews are out there. but look at what surround them , ice and snow, big chunks of it, and that is on our roadways basically anywhere, side streets, under bridge, bridge deck, those side streets and sidewalks that you will be walking on today, use your best descretion when it comes to the shoes you have on your feet. ninety-five south at cottman pulled off block ago this left lane starting to see slow downs around that area we have another accident, involving a pedestrian, and bustleton northeast avenue at red lion road, traveling a little less than posted speed 21 miles an hour. accident up on. that we have another accident out there where they are out there directing traffic, in pennsville, new jersey.

hook road at route 551 between lee avenue and george drive your alternate rude 49 or broadway is your best bet. you can see how much activity just cracking in the 6:00 o'clock hour, jim and rahel. well, you are in for a crunchy commute as sidewalks and roadways are iced over. >> "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao has been on the go checking out dozens of different neighborhood. she's live in oxford circle. a big challenge as folks head out this morning. >> reporter: rahel and jim, good morning, a big challenge is putting it mildly. we have saw a couple of people hoff the right idea they are getting up and out early because you have to pick through, ice, blocks of ice to get your car out, we are coming to you live from sylvester street right off of unruh avenue in the oxford circle section of the city. it is a two person job. we have one guy picking through what was wet, heavy snow that has formed into blocks of ice, other guy kind of shoveling it aside so they can get this area cleared out,

so they can get their van out. you can see they are heading to work this morning. it is no fun, not for these folks who have to get up and out early, not for the kid who have to go to school and maybe find a sidewalk that is impassable. i want to show you this van finally trying to get out of the parking spot here. it is no easy has being. their wheels are spinning. they will to have do more work i know they have been out here , for some time now. we just got to this area about 10 or 15 minutes they have been working on that long. they have a little bit more work to do. this is what you encounter. we have been to port richmond, frankford, mayfair, oxford circle. these people didn't think ahead yesterday and cleared off their car when they could have with the frigid temperatures. everything is frozen solid. you can see at my feet here at oxford circle and sylvester street a plow has been through here but cannot get it all

away, and you have part of the road that is still icy and another parties very narrow. so a lot of people will be frustrated this morning including this guy, take a listen. >> how long did it take to you shovel out? >> yesterday, it took me about like two hours, you know. >> reporter: a lot. >> yeah, it is a lot. a lot of ice, a lot of snow. it was heavy. it was rain mixed with snow so it was very, it was a mess, it was a lot. >> reporter: it is a mess for sure. definitely build in extra time and keep an eye out for kid with people walking to work because people will have to be pushed out in the street a hell and jim, back to you. and the snow seems to be doing damage across the city. this overnight video from the south philadelphia gas station , shows what appears to be a roof that could not handle weight of the snow. this is the liberty gas and car wash at columbus boulevard

and tasker street, in word on any injuries, but as you can see a large chunk of the roof did crash on a kiosk. allentown was an area hardest hit by storm, they are digging out from a foot of snow, snow quickly turns to ice in lehigh county, officials decided to keep schools, offices closed just to be on the safe side. "eyewitness news" caught up with folks yesterday while the snow was really picking up. >> i don't mind the snow but in this time of the year he i'm ready for spring and trying to get rid of this and everything. i cannot argue with mother nature, right. >> as meisha mentioned black ice continues to pose a threat to the area after temperatures plumeted overnight. officials are warning drivers to stay off the road during the additional day off. 150 peco employees are head ago cross state lines to help electric co in delaware restore power to customers. delaware was hit hard with the dangerous combination of the snow, sleet, wind, and even rain yesterday, and trees toppled on to homes and cars in wilmington and ice coated power lines gave way.

last check more than 10,000 people are still without power , and in new castle count a loan. airport officials say philadelphia international will resume normal operations to day but dozens of flights have already been cancelled, if you have a flight be sure to confirm it with your car year, operations at airport were largely halted yesterday because of the storm. in other news this morning , flames forced several people from their homes overnight, ine mt. airy. >> "eyewitness news" reporter trang do is live at the scene with more on what happened. we know it is very cold morning, what do you know so far. >> reporter: rahel and jim, i just spoke to the neighbors who said this fire was unbelievable. he said this entire street was covered in smoke. this is an eight unit apartment building, and all residents are displayed this morning. you can see just where it started on the second floor there with the front facing apartment and windows, burned out. here's video of fire fighters on the scene. fire broke out at 1:15 on the 7500 block of theron avenue in e mt. airy.

fire started in the june that it housed a family of four. they were already out when fire fighters arrived, at lee one man was hurt, taken to einstein hospital with unknown injuries along with his wife and two children. crews had fire under control in about 15 minutes, fortunately, no fire fighters were hurt and at this point no word on the cause of the fire and rahel, as you mentioned it is very cold out here. we do not know if that was a factor in all of this fire starting, red cross however is helping residents displaced here this morning but for now we are live, i'm trang do cbs-3 "eyewitness news". jim and rahel, back to you. this delaware woman faces charges after police say she filed a false report. authorities say 23 year-old brenda aydin lied about accounts a attacked outside cristina mill apartments in newark. detectives uncovered inconsistencies in her story. residents have already been on edge because of a serial kidnapper on the lose. up next and explosive

we will find squalls pick up as well throughout the course of the day. storm itself is pulling away, high pressure will take its place. we will ease up on the thermometer but in the really warm up all that much, at lee initially. look at the wind, also in effect here at 8:00 a.m. it is for 95 and every point south of that gusts could peak as high as 45 in tandem with barely hitting freezing mark. you probably won't even hit it at all in a lot of locations. that does mean it will feel that much colder. current wind speed in the 20's in a few locations. it is very chilly outside. it is more like single digits at this hour. even still actual air temperatures in the 20's. you have that refreezing. that goes for folks at the shore where we saw a rain event. now looking forward we will keep you in the 30's next couple of days but there is some rebound that takes place this weekend but keep in mind not one of these days is actually average. just chilly, meisha.

will get wrap around moisture getting funneled from the north and west to allow additional snow showers and or squals. if you can find yourself traveling through one you can see reduced visibility. winter weather advisory until 8:00 tonight for purple shaded counties and might see another coat to go an inch or two worth of accumulating snow from those squals but we could see them across any part of the delaware valley, all the way down to the shore points. here's the temperatures, these are actual air temperatures, no one, clearly enclose to freezing, so even if it was a rain storm it has had a chance to actually freeze back over, unless a puddle being moved by wind that might help matters. i would expect that it is, froze even if it looks wet. use caution guys, that is initial issue but the scattered snow showers potentially reducing visibility with blowing, drifting snow, also making matters worse up in the mountains, too. so yeah, meisha, these storms

they are not just one day out of here situation. there is an aftermath and that will be our problem today. >> that is actually what we are seeing right now, a lot of that ice causing some problems just waking up with us not so much in the clear yet because of the black ice every where we have live chopper three over an accident in chad forward delaware county baltimore pike closed both directions between fair view and webb road, you have to use an alternate. 926 to street road is your best bet around this and you can see just what is kind of enveloping our crews. a ton of snow and ice basically every where. you can also see the sheen on the roadways, when those lights hit it right, it is just, black ice out there. so, you can imagine, you can in your vehicles driving around and try to stop at high rate of speed or just a normal rate of speed for that matter and trying to get around crews like this it can pose some problems.

you can see it doesn't look like a plow has come true and if it has it has come through once and that wet, heavy snow has been packed down and froze men to a block of ice because it is so frigid out here this morning. if you take a look down these streets you can see some areas better than others and some sidewalks looking better than others, as well, getting out to our live locations this morning taking a highways, main arteries they weren't bad at all, they were cleared, but when you get on the side streets and neighborhood streets you will to have slow down and take it easy, i saw my first two school kid up and out this morning as they before crossing the street taking it very carefully across because right when you hit from the sidewalk to the street that may have a pile up snow on it. you have to be very careful drying around in the only because of the slippery conditions but more pedestrians of the side of the street as well. this is what we are seeing all morning, main arteries looking good, side streets looking very tough and this street in
