a driver in peru walks away from a driver in peru walks away from frightening flooding. captioning funded by cbs good morning from the cbs news headquarters in new york. glad to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. well, today, the united states is implementing a temporary order preventing airline passengers on certain flights from carrying on larger electronic devices. nonstop flights originate in the middle east. reuters reports the reason for the ban is an unspecified threat. the ban impacts nine foreign airlines. no american carriers are affected. all electronics bigger than a cell phone including laptops, tablets and cameras must be checked. medical devices are excluded. the ban applies to eight countries and unnamed officials say the ban has been considered for several weeks. and the white house is

pushing back after the director of the fbi delivered a double blow undercutting the president. testifying before the house intelligence committee fbi director james comey is investigating possible collusion between the trump campaign and russia. he also shut down the president's claims that he was wiretapped by the obama administration. hena daniels is here in new york. good morning, hena. good morning, anne-marie. the president addresses house republicans on capitol hill ahead of their vote to overhaul obamacare. this comes one day after director comey confirmed for the first time that the campaign is the subject of a u.s. intelligence investigation. >> i am thrilled to be here in the great state of kentucky. >> reporter: president trump held a campaign-compile event monday night, addressing health care, but making no mention of the federal investigation possible collusion between associates of mr. trump and russia. >> thursday is our chance to end

obamacare. >> reporter: fbi director james comey confirmed the probe during yesterday's five-hour house hearing into russian involvement in the 2016 election. >> they wanted to mess with our election. they hated secretary clinton. wanted to harm her and thought they might have a chance to help mr. trump. >> reporter: while director comey would not comment on specifics cbs news has learned those under scrutiny include michael flynn. campaign adviser carter page, paul manafort and roger stone, a longtime friend of president trump. white house press secretary sean spicer tried to downplay the claim. >> general flynn was with the campaign and obviously there's discussion of paul manafort who played a limited role for a very limited amount of time. >> reporter: comey as well as rogers was far more firm when it came to the president's unproven wiretapping claim. >> so president obama could not unilaterally order a wiretap of

the president? >> no president could. >> i see nothing that we engaged in any such activity. >> reporter: besides the high profile denials the white house is still standing by the president's assertion. and monday's house hearing was the first of several public sessions. the house and senate intelligence committees are expected to hold on russia. a senate intelligence committee has scheduled a similar hearing for later this month. anne-marie. >> hena daniels here in new york. thank you so much, hena. ahead on "cbs this morning," we will speak with longtime trump adviser roger stone whose name came up repeatedly in yesterday's house intelligence committee hearing. this morning, president trump is scheduled to meet with republican lawmakers to press for passage of the house gop plan to replace obamacare. the house is expected to vote on the plan thursday for passage is not certain last night, in hopes of winning support, republican leaders unveiled 43 pages of proposed changes. it potentially would give more generous tax credits to older

federal appeals court judge also is in focus. >> the chief judge, merrick garland. >> chief judge merrick garland. >> reporter: democratic senators like patrick leahy are still seething that republicans blocked president obama's nomination of judge merrick garland. >> it was totally unprecedented in our country's whole history. >> reporter: they also took aim at president trump and questioned gorsuch's commitment to judicial independence, connecticut's richard blumenthal. >> the possibility of the supreme court needing to enforce a subpoena against the president is no longer idle speculation. >> reporter: but republican senators said the hearing was not about judge garland or the president north carolina's thom tillis. >> i hope the nomination hearing focuses on one person before us who will go on, i believe, to full fill the supreme court.
