good evening, i'm ukee washington. along with natasha brown. it is 6:00 o'clock. here's is what happening. disturbing case of animal cruelty. man accused of killing not one but two of his girl friend's dogs. tonight she tells "eyewitness news" that he did it out of jealousy. good evening, "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is live in bensalem where he uncovered the disturbing details, greg. >> reporter: ukee, this is the affidavit of probable cause, right here and it paints a very gruesome picture and shows that 23 years old joel davis even shook or stepped on two dogs before wrapping them in the blanket and suffocate ing them. twenty-three year-old joel davis is in jail, locked up for killing these two dogs, less than one month apart. i just sat there and cried , for hours, what else can you do. >> reporter: that is jennifer sherman, davis ex-girlfriend

who watched her in her bensalem apartment while she went on vacation in early february. he called me and says something is wrong with the dog. its legs aren't working jumps off the couch, blood came out of the nose and mouth and basically dog was dead. at first she believed him. maybe dog had a aneurysm, we didn't think anything of it but he killed first dog. >> reporter: he even rescued another pet this four month-old terrier whom she had for only four days, march 3rd when she asked him to dog sit again. he called me when i was on my way home and told me same story that he did with the other dog saying that his legs gave out and that he just stopped breathing. >> reporter: you didn't believe him this time. definitely not. pugs, terriers, they are of no threat to him. >> reporter: police say davis confessed to crushing and then suffocateing both dogs, even posing them in similar positions. his head up and paws together. >> reporter: his reason for gruesome killings, sheer jealousy. said because i showed more love to the dogs then i did to

him. who knows maybe she is dogs saved her life, and, you know, i is not in her life anymore thank god, for her, and it is just a shame, hopefully justice will be served. >> reporter: sherman says she plans to get a restraining order against davis, right now he is still sitting in jail his bond is set at $500,000. we're live from bensalem township i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". greg, thank you. authorities in delaware county want public's help with the cold case, a reward is now being offered for information, in the murder of a sekaine woman last year. "eyewitness news" reporter joe holden joins us in upper darby with the new details in the family 's plea for justice, joe , good evening. >> reporter: markia benson was brutally beaten and killed inside of that apartment, and tonight, police still say, that they believe, that she knew her killer. the team at this news conference repeated over and over. who do i thank.

>>sobering mission for markia benson's family turns a year-old, a hunt for her killer renewed on this important anniversary. dot right thing, come forward. >> reporter: one hour, 15 minutes ago on this date in 2016, police descended on markia's apartment, inside of the place on south avenue in see kaine a gruesome crime scene, the killer police say had brutally beat her and she was left in the bathtub. then whoever committed this heinous act took her and put her in the shower and turn hot water on and scolded the rest of her. >> reporter: detectives wouldn't discuss possible dna found at the scene, nor would they talk about the writing they say that the killer, left on her walls, but one thing they are seeking. we're asking members of the apartment complex, to refresh their recollection, take themselves back a year ago today. >> reporter: for markia's family time halted that day this was never going to be over for us. this is, even if , you know, we get to the

place where there is an arrest and there is a conviction, thinks our life, if there is any compassion left, if there is any soul left, dot right thing. dot right thing. >> reporter: police tell us they have been able to rule some people out, as potential suspects. no word if they have now narrowed down their investigation to the person, of interest, at this point, upper darby township police are interested in all tips, give them a call here at police headquarters. reporting live in upper darby i'm joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". also tonight a teen is now behind bars for a series of attacks on woman in delaware county. authorities say suspect raped, beat, and robbed many of the victims, over the span of three years. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh explains what led police to finally make an arrest this individual would stalk women, terrorized woman. >> reporter: delaware county district attorney jack whalen is talking about dejean lee, a

suspected serial rapist who allegedly attacked nine women over past three years. is there anything you want to say to the victims. on thursday lee had no comment for "eyewitness news" cameras as delaware county authorities walk him to a awaiting car for arraignment but neighbors like wayne jones say they are angry . i just can't take law in my hand but it is disgusting, that a human being, could drop this low. >> reporter: authorities say starting from age 16, lee prayed on young woman walk, drag them to secluded areas at gunpoint and then attacked while wearing a mask or trying to shield his face. wow rob them, he would rape them,. >> reporter: one of those victims told police in december 2016 that a man raped and robbed her on the 500 block of pen he will street in chester around 10:00 in the morning. she called police again a few weeks later after reportedly recognizing lee as her attacker while inside this shop rite, in eddystone. she had also indicated that she had her, his voice, and wasn't sure but believed it was him.

>> reporter: police arrested him on firearms charges and soon after linked him to the previous attacks using dna evidence and witness statements. in his arraignment thursday afternoon lee told judge he does not have an attorney, meantime authorities fear they are just scratching the surface when it comes to the number of victims and they are asking anyone who knows anything, to come forward, and call police. reporting from chester, i'm anita oh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the republican party is joining a federal lawsuit challenging results of the march 21st special election in north philadelphia they are allegeding rampant fraud. party leaders held a news conference in the north east today. democratic write in candidatee meal yah vasquez won contest for state representative in the 197th district but republicans say that poll workers offered illegal vote era assistance. this is an election, an election we could have won, just following the rules, yet they are so used to cheating, that they cheated their way, through the entire day with absolute impunity.

it is almost laughable they are taking us back to court, they stopped to replacing the name and now they won election 80 some percent, win and now they are trying to take the election back. it is just, it is just comical really. >>vasquez, green party write in candidate, and republican, little. well, eagles safety malcolm jenkins was in washington d.c. tackling some off the field issues. jenkins spoke to house democrats in d.c., about minority community ies, and their relationship with the police. he joined, other nfl players, sharing their experiences, and he says that he hopes to improve those relationships. jenkins discussed meeting he had with philadelphia police. we had a frank conversation, just about how we can reconcile this relationship between our communities and law enforcement, which led to, myself, doing a ride along with the police to get a look into their world, because that is one thing i just don't understand. i understand being a black manny live that

yes. >>very excited. >> reporter: baby juan and his parents are heading back to home where the infant is a celebrity. we see messages, phone calls, from people we do not know. >> reporter: since october family has been camped out at children's hospital of philadelphia where doctors say juan's life with a intervention that is largely unheard of in many places. he was a hard time, crazy time, but we are extremely happy, about prospects. >> reporter: when she was five months pregnant a ultrasound showed a mass on the baby's heart. their doctors sent images to his friend doctor jack rycheck at chop. mini saw this i recognized there was a giant tumor on the heart. >> reporter: rare perry cardinal tumor, only hope was fatal surgery operating on the baby's heart inside of the womb. we have never heard this before. i started laughing, like what? >> reporter: what. they race

ed to philadelphia, chop is the only place where the risky fetal heart operation had been done successfully and just once before. we are operating on two patients with the single intent. our goal resecond tumor but we also have the mother, and we have the baby. >> reporter: juan is now second baby to survive the fetal surgery that happened when his mom was 21 weeks pregnant. his heart at the time of the surgery is size of the peanut, size of the tumor was about three times the size of the heart. and, waited an additional day we would have been too late. >> reporter: after fatal surgery the pregnant i continued as the family waited in philadelphia. at 31 weeks, juan was born december 11th but the tumor had grown back so there was a second heart surgery. there were enough chances that the baby was going to die . >> reporter: he survived with a big scar on his chest. juan is now three months old and healthy, however his presenting knows is unknown. there are no other human beings alive today who have

had fatal surgery for this removal of type of a tumor, that are 30, 40, 50, 60 years old that we could say what the prognosis going to be. >> reporter: but for the parents at least their son has a chance after a fetal surgery that still has their head spinning. unbelievable. i cannot believe what happened here. >>isn't's adorable. now family is new back in south america where juan, continues to thrive, that heart tumor that is very rare was bee noon, not known what caused it but it is usually a deadly condition. so they are so grateful to have been here, first baby, operated for that condition, at chop is four years old right now. you will continue to follow this. >>of course, baby juan. yes. >>adorable. you have to. >>stephanie, thanks very much. well, today the philadelphia school district released plans for their nine community schools. mayor kenney and september bill hite health a news conference at tilt on middle school. they say schools will

of the mid south and mississippi valley, thinks all lifting our way, pulling lots of moisture as it goes and we are going to see some spells of very heavy rain, all day tomorrow. now east wind picked up and temperatures have also dropped here this afternoon. you can see that brisk east wind off water 44 in atlantic city. forty-three in wildwood right now. cool east wind will be around through the day thomas that storm approaches and will keep temperatures on the chilly side as well, kind of the raw day, lucky to get in the lower 50's tomorrow. let's time this out. scattered showers this evening. mostly quiet. but by midnight another round of showers moves in, starts continue on tense file overnight and by the time you wake up tomorrow morning it is raining, probably ice in the poconos region. and then here's noon time, pockets of the heavy rain falling across the region. it will get worse from there. you can see yellow, orange denoting heaviest rain here around 4:00 speaking it will be cool enough that the atmosphere

will be stable, tomorrow but tomorrow around seven or 8:00 when cold front comes through cannot rule out thunder but really biggest threat will be heavy rain, midnight, tomorrow night, it is still going and then starts to finally clear out. morning showers saturday, possibly some afternoon breaks of sun here or there, saturday late in the day. so, for your friday period of rain, heaviest in the afternoon up to two plus inches, possible icing in the poconos, it is a raw, chilly day and watch for ponding, poor drainage flooding. we have a freezing rain advisory for poconos 2:00 right until saturday morning. so showers around overnight intensifying rain, through the early morning hours and then period of heavy rain, all day tomorrow, and then the high only 51 degrees, and you're witness weather seven day forecast tries to clear it out late saturday. i wouldn't pin your hopes and dreams on a sunny afternoon but sunday looks better at 61. another storm monday night into tuesday and then one more break on wednesday. we will to have cling to these sunny days, here and there. yes, we do. >>oh, we will.
