dramatic arrest all within a couple of hours of each other. the two separate investigations still up folding tonight. good evening i'm ukee washington. >> i'm natasha brown in for jessica tonight at first it was thought the two incidents on the turnpike might be connected and we now know it's not the case. >> the dadly shooting happened molly pitcher in cranberry middlesex county and it was followed bay rest in salem grove county and david spunt is live tonight with more details. >> we have shorts fired. >> new jersey state troopers rushed to the scene of molly paper service area in cranberry township before 3:00 thursday afternoon and a state trooper opened fire shooting and killing a man sitting inside this pickup truck. >> we rolled it up and saw it and she the cashier said somebody got shot. >> they will not say what led to the shooting. 70 miles away 90 minutes later chopper 3 caught police chasing

this car south own the turnpik turnpike. five miles north of delaware memorial bridge and that came to a halt. police with guns surrounded car and took three people into custody. it appeared the incidents ma maying related and sources say they are not. south jersey incident is part of criminal investigation out of maryland and the source would not get into the specifics of each case. both incidents remain under investigation and new jersey attorney general's office investigating the cranberry township shooting. david spunt, cbs3 eyewitness news. >> new tonight this highway in atlanta is shut down after a massive fire caused the road to collapse. intense flames melted overpass on interstate 835 before it gave way. at this point we don't know what caused the fire in some piles of plastic wiring under the highway. traffic was backed up for miles as drivers had nowhere to go. transportation officials state highway will be closed for the foreseeable future. and teenager is now behind

bars for a series of attacks on women in delaware county and authorities tonight believe there could be more victim out. there 19-year-old de john lee is charged with raping and robbing nine women over the past three years and alleged attacks napped secluded areas some of the victims told police lee wore a mask or tried to shield his face during attacks. the break in the case came when one victims recognized him. >> she also indicated that she had heard his voice and was not sure but believed it was him. >> i am not going to take the law in my hand but it's disgust that a human being could drop this low. >> reporter: anyone with information this this case should contact police right away. authorities hope the public can help them with unsolved murder of a woman for information in the death of

marquia benson she was found deaded in her apartment one year ago. beaten. the killer, whom it is believed knew benson scawld messages on the wall before leaving her in a bathtub of scalding water. benson's family spoke out today asking if anyone knows anything to speak of. >> do the right thing. do the right thing. come forward. express your side of it if there is a side. >> detectives would not discuss possible dna found at the scene nor riotings they say killer left own benson's walls. >> disturbing case of animal cruelty in ben same. jealousy drove joel dave toys kill not one but two of his girlfriend's dogs. jennifer sherman said she left her dogs in the care of davis in two occasion and davis confessed to crushing and suffocating them. >> he said to me because i showed more love to the dogs than i did to him.

>> who knows maybe the dogs saved her life. and he's not in her life an anymore thank god for her and it's a shame and hopefully justice will be served. >> davis is held on $500,000 bail. >> also, tonight, a drexel university professor is making national headlines facing backlash on social media offer a tweet. and this is not the first time his words have stirred up controversy. >> a drexel university professor sparked outrage on social media after posting a tweet, george sickrela mar is professor the global politics and posted this sunday morning. some guy gave up first class seat for uniformed soldier people are thanking him i'm not to vomit or yell about mozul. that came on heels of investigation in u.s. military air strike that reportedly killed 200 civilians. this is not the first time he has made headlines for social media posts.

around christmas time he tweeted "all i want for christmas is white genocide." >> he has his own beliefs and has a right to say them. it's america. first amendment. so he can say whatever he wants to say. >> he's reputation of drexel he represents that image and you represent yourself in a negative way. >> the professor is not backing down and says in a statement in part "i sent a personal tweet in reaction to what i considered a something you and self congratulatory gesture by first class passenger towards uniformed soldier, maybe predictably my tweet was said into and misrepresented by the outrage machine that is right wing media" he went on to say "needless to say my personal views expressed off campus have nothing to do with those of my employer drexel university" some students that we talked to say it would seem hard to separate the two. >> that means outside of work that's how you probably act.

and inside work it's a different story. i don't think we needs those types of people around student students. >> drexel university responded with a statement that nraedz part "the recent social media comments by george sickrela mar was made outside the classroom, are his opinion and do not represent the university views. >> professor has made his twitter account private and at last check has more than 10,000 followers. >> ousted security advice ormichael flynn said he will testify about ties to russia in exchange for immunity. they held the first public hearings on russia interference in the presidential election. and senators questioned cyber security experts on how russia interferes in the elections and they testified there is little doubt russia was behind the rampid spread of fake news and hacking of democratic emails. >> and a seal is being nursed back to health now after surviving a shark attack offer the jersey shore.

you can see here some of the bite marks on the seal. it was found stranded on the beach in manasquan monmouth county and they stitched up the seal and they tell eyewitness news it is expected to make a full recovery. the philadelphia museum of art breaks ground on multi-million dollar renovation project and these are renderedings of what the museum will look like once construction is finished. frank geary is leading the project to add 67,000 square feet of public space for the museum. you have to wait until 2020 to see the finished product. >> robot revolution. why you should worry about rebought replacing you at work. >> and plus finders, keepers, who gets to spend all of the cash after it was left in the middle of the road. >> and then chasing the world one cheesesteak at a time. the little restaurant with a big mission, tonight taste with

>> thunderstorms to ensure we would have cheer steaks. >> is it that bad. >> there's a few flashes of lightning you want to be safe in the parking lot. few flashes of lightning here and there and couple showers and only gets worse before better. overnight and through the day tomorrow. take a look at what is going on. we'll take you to the roof cam which shows some wet roads out. there i don't know if you can tell center city everything looking damp and few showers rolled through and even a rumble of thunder or so. one cell over montgomery county produced pea sized hail and that fizzled. storm scan three we have active radar out there and as showers and thunderstorms pop up. most of the lightning to north app west and you see we have eye couple flashes one over chester country here and few moving along roun the city and don't want to be outside if you can help it for any length of time. this is all part and parcel of larger system impacting weather from tonight all the way through this time tomorrow night. we'll still be talking about

this same storm taken may last torlly saturday morning. here's the rain. starting to lift in lots of moisture being pulled in along this line and we have again this line ever scattered showers and thunderstorms. right now all of bucks county seeing it and a few scattered showers around the city and you can see back towards chester country one report of lightning there. it's messy outside all right. but again only gets worse. it's cool. we have east wind that will continue tomorrow. tem furz in the low 40s. and notice the poconos though. it's only 36. temps will continue to drop there and that means we'll have the risk for freezing rain in portions of especially monroe county as we go through the overnight hours. so this is just going to intensify overnight, showers leading to some steadier rainfall into the early morning hours. your morning commute is wet. pockets of steadier rain here and there and it's just light to moderate rain for the most part for morning commute and then increases in intensity through the day. another noon raining -ly the heaviest yellow and orange shade are here indication of

heaviest rainfall rates and that comes in tomorrow afternoon. 3 p.m. it's pouring. 5 p.m., it's even worse and that's just going to slow down the evening commute. 6 to 7 very heavy rain maybe a rumble of thunder and this starts to lift out but not until maybe this time tomorrow night and here's 11:00 tomorrow night still dealing with rain and heaviest starting to shift north and eat and even 2 a.m. still wet weather and this starts to wiped up and gets out of her saturday maybe late day breaks of sun 5 p.m. clearing and gradual clear as this storm moves out this weekend. so, breaking it down. periods of rain. heaviest in the afternoon. one an a half to 2 and a half inches and over three in a couple spots here and there and possible icing in poconos and whole day araw, windy and chilly, highs in the low 50s maybe 40s and watch for ponding and poor drainage flooding out there on the roads. not a great friday. if you can work from home tomorrow is the day to do. it freezing rain advisory starts 2 a.m. and continues
